AMERICAblog: OMG they're all the same camera! Except they're not.

  • Gregory Hanigan · 10 months ago
Speaking as someone who sells IT equipment to the Department of Defense... Even if they WERE the same camera that still proves nothing. The company I work for routinely quotes military units bulk purchases on items such as Digital Cameras, or Thumb drives (up until the Military issued a directive), laptops, ETC. There's even a contract, the ADMC-2 contract to be precise, which was written to provide the Army with items such as digital cameras. Here's a web page where you can see one such product for sale: https://ascp.monmouth.army.mil/scp/sbc/item_det...

Why should the 101st keyboards find it odd that a military organization would choose to standardize on a single brand or make of camera in the first place?

Oh yeah - it's because they're batshit crazy.
  • Butch1 · 10 months ago
It's also because they wouldn't know. None of them has the cojones to actually join the Armed Forces and put their amble arses in harm's way. Yet, they think of themselves as patriotic by going after Obama. They are nothing but a traitorous bunch of scum.
  • BWeller · 10 months ago
It's not surprising to hear this type of accusation from those conservodipshits since those are exactly the types of antics the Bushies employed while squatting in the White House, eh? Such indignation! Personally, I can't wait til tomorrow when nobody shows up to their tea parties!
  • cowboyneok · 10 months ago
You can bet the FOX NEWS sponsored "tea bagging parties" are going to be BLOWN out of proportion by FOX NEWS. I still find it humorous a bunch of lemmings are going to protest higher taxes for those making way more than most of them ever DREAM of making! Do they really feel that sorry for the likes of poor little rich kids like Glenn Beck and druggie Rush Limbaugh?
  • Joe Blow · 10 months ago
Its odd that you "happened" to pick the same phot as the link you had....

and you even picked up on the pink camera...

(including one guy with a pink one - I didn't know Lindsey Graham was in Iraq again).

but, that pink one on the left sure looks like a female.....
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
Huh? I read the link, which I always do before I link to something, then wrote my post based on it. Very fancy journamilism here at AMERICAblog :-)
  • FatRat · 10 months ago
The Repub fabricated meme, might have an element of truth to it. Secret Service/security will take your camera and snap a single picture. I'm guessing they do that to make sure, it isn't a jerry-rigged explosive device.

They return the camera (sans one pic), and that could account for the confabulation. More likely answer; total fabrication by Repubs.
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
Oh that's interesting, and a good point. Of course, they're still morons for thinking that makes a conspiracy.
  • screech · 10 months ago
Staged? You mean like Chimpy used to do? What a bunch of morans.
  • Father Ted · 10 months ago
If there is a preponderance of Canon cameras, I would check to see what brand of camera is on sale at the Base Exchange of whatever Army base Obama is visiting, and probably it would turn out to be Canon. When you're stationed somewhere where the only place you can shop is the BX and the Commissary, you buy what's there. And if there is a choice of one brand, that's what you buy. It's one of the joys of military life.
  • Tony T · 10 months ago
My thoughts exactly. I bet they even had a run on cameras on the days leading up to Obama's visit.
  • Gridlock · 10 months ago
aren't they too busy teabagging to go chasing stupid viral e-mails?

This is about as moronic as the Michelle Obama 'whitey tape'.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 10 months ago
    D E S P E R A T I O N
  • Styve · 10 months ago
However, if you guys recall, at more than one campaign stop, Obama's security would not allow people to bring in cameras, and actually issued disposables to everyone. Don't know how that ties in with the right-wing fruitloops' position that the event in question was staged, but thought it interesting that issuing cameras might not be a bad idea...at least to the wingnuts?!

"But in all fairness to the conservative blogs, I understand they had a hard time translating the email from the original Nigerian. "

But, 9 out of 10 DID send the money the e-mail requested!
  • example · 10 months ago
    Nigerians speak English, dumbass.
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
    Lindsey is that you?

    Dumb ass.
  • Outraged · 10 months ago
That's right John, "Dumb ass" is two words, unless you're referring to the fish.
  • Gridlock · 10 months ago
    There's a fish called a dumbass?

    *blinks, non-plussed*

    How about that.
  • Outraged · 10 months ago
    DumBass dumb ass ;-)
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
Yeah I'm with you, I want to know more about this fish.
  • alex williams · 10 months ago
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
  • Butch1 · 10 months ago
LOL! It's amazing what one can learn on the internet if one would only look. Well done, John. Education wins again over the ignorant abyss.
  • Outraged · 10 months ago
And here's one of him doing a "terrorist fist jab" with one of our own soldiers! Heavens to betsy, we're fucked, I tell you!

Ha! We know McCain voters still use their Graflex Speed Graphic cameras
    http://www.camerapedia.org/wiki/Graflex_Speed_G...
    With the daguerreotype option.
  • here4tehbeer · 10 months ago
I noticed one of the camera models is the "Pacemaker" :)
  • jsc · 10 months ago
Funny. Pitiful .....but funny. And there was a second gunman on the grassy knoll. Anyone see Oliver Stone?
  • Canucklehead · 10 months ago
I think it's important to note that the right has a practise of accusing everyone of using dirty tricks. And while the accusations seem preposturous, they aren't...because the right has already used them.

Accusing Obama of hand picking an adoring crowd of military...sounds pretty Bushy. Making a well orchestrated event seem grass roots...think teabaggers. And how about Rove accusing Obama of making every decision based on political calculations!

I liken it to a bunch of potheads watching TV...to them, everyone they watch is stoned.
  • Butch1 · 10 months ago
It seems their own weapon is "projection."
  • SeekTheTruth · 10 months ago
So basically, the Republicans are still setting the agenda for those of you who choose to give their bullshit credence. They just controlled how you spent the hour or two it took to do this, John.

Next time, cut the puppet strings and let them look foolish without commenting at all. C'mon, I dare you. Try it.
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
What makes you think that "not responding" is the best way to defuse Republican lies? Democrats have been trying that approach for years, at least 8 of them by my count - well, 14 if you count the GOP congress. Hasn't been terribly effective.

Some attacks you ignore lest you give them publicity, others you blow out of the water at the beginning, lest they be permitted to grow. It's an art, and takes years of experience to know the difference. But there is a difference. You can't just ignore everything and hope it goes away.
  • Jophus · 10 months ago
You want the democrats to sit silent? That is what we did after September 11th.

How are you supposed to seek the truth (as your username suggests), when people aren't giving any facts?
  • mrwaturi · 10 months ago
as a former soldier, and one who served overseas and in the first Iraq war, the PX's do not carry a large variety of items. a soldier buying a camera at the Green Zone Exchange would only, in my experience, have a small number of cameras to choose from.
  • PeteWa · 10 months ago
The conservatives continue to parade their weak minds and lack of ideas for all to see.
  • Butch1 · 10 months ago
Is the right ever going to join the rest of the country in standing behind Obama or are they going to continue this puerile attempt at bashing him at every turn? I guess I answered my own question . . .sigh . . .
  • PJT · 10 months ago
The GOP and its operatives have abandoned all hope of legitimacy.

Someday, they are going to actually tell the truth on a matter of some import, and no one will believe them.

If the one of them tells you that the sky is blue, seek verification.
  • cereal · 10 months ago
What the hell is so funny or John-Mc-Lame about a Graflex?!? Those things rock!

Oh, wait, I get it - it's an old camera, therefore it sucks...except that a beautiful 4x5 negative or even better, transparency, will blow away the images from your little toy digital cameras.

Not every "advance" is good, you know. Margarine is not better than butter, nor is astroturf better than grass, or Stick Ball II for GameBoy better than actually playing stickball.

Now - get off my lawn!!
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
No, not that it sucks, just that it's old :-)
  • RobertSanDimas · 10 months ago
And, John, OLD can be good! Just take a look at my partner and me! Hugs
  • RobertSanDimas · 10 months ago
You brought back sweet memories, CEREAL. In my photo class in college we were required to use view cameras and TLRs. Those were the best photos I ever took (we printed them ourselves - b/w, of course) and I still have some of them. I loved the Rolleiflex and wish I had one now. That was a long time ago (67 here). Now I'm reduced to a little digital that I actually hang around my neck on a lanyard while traveling. It's convenient and good enough for memories, but not art. Just my opinion. Thanks.
  • Biggus Diggus · 10 months ago
Gee, sounds kind of like the tricks W used to play on the press, which is why the project so much on Obama.
  • Biggus Diggus · 10 months ago
Also, I'd imagine a military PX store is a lot like a Costco -- great savings, but limited selection. What to you bet they PX stocks that model of Canon camera?
  • Moderation · 10 months ago
The modern Republican party is seriously the master of projection. They do this ALL the time. The see something, they latch onto it with something that sounds kinda out there, or conspiracy-theory-esque, and it comes out later (or beforehand) that they did PRECISELY what they are accusing their opponent(s) of. It is pathological, to such a degree that you can actually watch their train of thought leave the station. You can see precisely what their first impulse is in response to stimuli, and extrapolate what THEIR response would be. It is really quite remarkably accurate. :/
  • skwcw2001 · 10 months ago
are they serious bush never went anywhere that was staged geesh this crap is so non productive
  • DKarma · 10 months ago
    i counted at least one:
    red camera
    black camera
    white camera
    pink camera
    blue camera
    and metallic camera
at least one phone(#8 appears to be an iphone)

whoever said they were all the same is an idiot,r a liar or both.

basically the republicans are jealous because we have a Dem rockstar prez now and they had 8 years of failure
  • red_dwarf · 10 months ago
Either that or the rePigs are color blind. Just when you thought lame couldn't get any deeper.
  • Steve O · 10 months ago
Gee did anyone of those non-enlisting right wing MF'ers ever consider that they all might be similar models because that's what the base PX sells? Not too many Circuit City's or Best Buys in Iraq the last time I checked.
