AMERICAblog: One week to go: Don't get cocky or over-confident

USA Today: Obama’s half-hour, prime-time commercials on CBS, NBC and Fox at 8 p.m. tomorrow “cost Obama nearly $1 million apiece. … ABC and Obama could not reach a deal.”
Interesting how the fake 911 doc and slanted debate network couldn't "reach a deal"....
That says so much about ABC, the Disney-owned network.

I've heard from a friend (I can't verify this since I haven't watched ESPNazi (except for actual games) since the Home Run Derby and Rick Reilly's anti-Atheist comments) that on Sportscenter they make it a point to have pro McCail and anti Obama commentary

I hope somebody's keeping a list of who these trash talkers are and what they've said. We might need it to help the media clean up their act after the election.

They're going to show "Pushing Up Daisies" instead.
Sounds like a documentary about the McCain Campaign.

Don't hope. Don't pray. VOTE.

He is absolutely right, we CANNOT afford to lose this one too. Obama has run a great and impressive campaign, he has done all that is required of him, his staff has been wonderful, and now it is our turn.
VOTE, VOTE, AND VOTE, PLS. Do not think that this is in the bag, or think your vote may not count. We have come so far, and it will be deadly to make that mistake, and have McLame and his lightweight VP take control of this country. I don't think this country can take it. Be vigilant, and report any voting problems immediately. They have stolen the Presidency from us before, and yes, the same tactics are being used by this dishonorable bunch.

Indeed, there is no way my vote will tip the scales in this blue state I live in, but I still CANNOT WAIT to vote at the polls.
Still some foot-shooting Dems left on the establishment turnup truck...Take FCC Commissioner Michael Copps who told WBAL yesterday: "I don't believe we need to go back to it [The Fairness Doctrine] as it was contructed years ago."
What a tool...Who in their right mind would want to regulate 21st century media with rules written in the 1930s, modified in the 1940s and upheld by the Supremes in the 1980s? Of course new regulations would have to be rewritten to accomodate modernity. Copps hope that stations would cover "a lot of local events" will remain a hope unless broadcast owners are regulated into compliance.
Don't worry, baby, I just got back from voting for you...
Everyone at the voting place (about 2 dozen) were elderly, including my 67 yr old ass, but I'd almost bet you that I was the only one voting for Obama. This is a VERY conservative county, but I finally did see some Obama signs at the polling place, and a couple along the back road I took to vote. It felt good to do the deed, and the polling place even had blue slips they were giving out explaining that if you were voting a straight ticket, you also had to vote for president in addition. People have complained about this in the past, and it's been said that NC had about 70,000 people in 2004 who didn't vote for president. Obama's name was first on the list, which is a good thing...

Awesome! You're doing your part to turn North Carolina blue. I'm proud of all the democratic voters in swing states that nobody thought would be swing states. Good for you!

NC has a large black population, and believe me, they're going to turn out. Plus, we have lots of white progressives in places like the research triangle, even in the Piedmont/Charlotte area (I lived there off and on all my life). The cities will take care of themselves vis a vis Obama; it's the yahoos in the rural eastern counties and mountain counties (except Asheville) that will be a solid block for Palin/McStabbedintheBackbyMyVPChoice.
BTW, do you think some voters who might have been on the fence are saying, Fuck it, I'm voting for the winner?

To answer your last question, yes to an extent.
I spent the first half of my 42 year old (so far) life in a DEEP red area of the West. That's why I'm so happy for you and the democratic party for actually making this happen in NC. I don't foresee the congressional district I grew up in going blue any time soon but we can hold out hope. There are a lot of great democrats that are building up that structure to make it happen in '10.

I love to vote in person on the appointed day with due and old-fashioned Masonic ceremony. My polling place is at an upper-upper class country club (you can't afford the membership fee so don't ask) and staffed by the country club elders. It's wonderful to go in and vote straight Democrat because "we get so few of your type here.' (um . . gay? Democrat? handsome? poor? what?) I suspect I enter one of the very few Democratic votes and even fewer gay voters and they need that. Anyhow, it's glorious! I love to vote and have never missed an election since JFK ran for president and saber-toothed tigers roamed the tundra.

Anyone heard what the content of Obama's TV spot may be tomorrow night? McCain and Palin are probably unhinged by now.

Funny because it's firm but insistant...sort of presidential: In this morning's WP, "ABC finally offered Barack Obama's camp the 8 p.m. half-hour in its Wednesday lineup...But, in an ironic twist, the Democratic presidential candidate's campaign passed on ABC's offer, saying it has allocated the funds elsewhere. "
EVERYBODY VOTE!!!!! DRAG people to vote if you have to.

I am not getting cocky or over-confident but I wish these news reporters would jump on the question of how McCain plans to increase our military when enlistments are down. He just said it again in a speech after remarking on Barney Franks comment of needing to trim 25% of the Pentagon budget. A plan to implement a draft would sink the McCain ship. Can we keep talking about this online until a reporter decides to ask about this issue instead of the clothes?

Far from "cocky," "over confident" or "complacent;" I'm so damned jittery I can hardly sit still...
One week seems like a whole lot of time for Republican mischief. I wish this were over.

On the other hand, don't get so scared that you become paralyzed and paranoid, thinking things are so hopeless that you do nothing. TURN OFF THE TV and the computer! Talk to real people, even in the reddest of states! You will get your energy back.

Please get involved, even if it's for an hour this weekend. Go to your local Obama call station and you can make phone calls to some of the swing states. We're so close and together we will do it.

So, for those of you not in Ory-gone, what are the Obama commercials like? Honestly, I haven't seen one in a couple of months easy. The DNC figures that Oregon is sewed up, so it doesn't spend money for the presidential campaign here.
What we get instead, is wall-to-wall Smith and Merkley commercials. There are times when I want to throw a shoe at the Teevee. The Smith commercials are often stacked two and three deep in the commercial breaks.
(I dropped off my ballot yesterday. Oregon is strictly vote-by-mail. No questions about paper ballots.)
Interesting how the fake 911 doc and slanted debate network couldn't "reach a deal"....
