Lieberman is a pathetic opportunist. There is absolutely no reason to keep him as chairman of the Homeland Security committee. The Democrats are operating under the strategy of keeping their enemy close...well, that doesn't work so well when your enemy has a knife waiting to stab you in the back or knock you upside the head with a gavel.
If Lieberman stays as chairman, it would be the clearest sign that Democrats are wimps. Congress will flip back to the GOP in 2010 because what's the point of giving Democrats control when they are afraid to use their power.
If Bush were a Democrat, he would have been impeached years ago...and Lieberman would have voted for it!

Lieberman is one of the most vile and odious humans that have ever become public figures for something other than being a serial murder. However, the Rude Pundit argues reasonably plausibly that he may be more useful to us "alive than dead" -- speaking as a political metaphor, of course, not literally.
Basically, the argument is that Lieberman only cares about himself. Quoting the Rude One, "Lieberman is a power-mad cockmonger, a principle-less buffoon". The GOP hate him because they know he does not share their principles (since he has none). Also, they lost badly, which means that Lieberman failed in a ploy that was designed for nothing more than to give him greater power. Now Lieberman probably sees these polls, and may be willing to switch sides again since it is the only way he can save his rotting political corpse.
I am not sure I buy this, but I would like to be a fly on the wall in certain rooms in DC these days.

The President-Elect is right to be magnanimous. He has been made to be. This should have been handled by the Senate Leader swiftly and without the need to be bolstered. The Senate can still resolve this correctly by stripping Lieberman. The President-Elect will still be magnanimous. We have tried keeping this enemy close. This devil we know too well.
If Joe flees so be it. If he cared about the Obama agenda or the Democratic Party he would not be holding it hostage now and would not have campaigned against it. He did not get elected as a Democrat. He will not get re-elected as a Republican. They don't want him either. He's just been a useful idiot.
Joe is done. Don't be dumb.

Like the people who voted for Bush/Cheney twice and say "I'd never vote for them again," it's too late folks! The damage is already done. Lieberman will be there for another four years - basically the whole first term of Obama. Next election, do your homework!

leahy has become first senator to call for his head. "I would feel that had I done something similar," Leahy concluded, "that I would not be chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in the next Congress."

I still don't understand the concept of giving 'Ho Lieberman everything he wants so he'll vote with the Democrats. Is this man so devoid of any integrity or world view that he will vote either Conservative or Liberal depending on what he gets for himself? I say call his bluff, kick him to curb and let him join the Republican Party and start voting exclusively Conservative so his Constituents can recall his smug ass.

I live in CT, and unfortuately Lieberman is my senator.
I didn't vote for the man, and in fact was extremely disappointed when he ended up winning. He lost the Democratic primary fair and square, and as far as I was concerned, all of my reservations about his integrity and honor were confirmed when he went independent, to try and secure a win using Republican voters, a race which ended up successful for him.
His agenda was in the naked light of day back then, anything this asshat does now should come as absolutely no surprise.
This man is out for himself, and himself only. He must be removed. He does not represent the Democratic party in CT. The Democrats spoke very clearly when they voted him out in the last primary election cycle. They clearly voted for Ned Lamont to replace him.
Lieberman can vote with which ever block he wants, he's independent.
But as for heading a committee, forget it. The Democrats are in power now, and he is definitely not a Democrat.

I am confused by why I would have confidence in the comments from people who voted for Lieberman. It isn't as if Lieberman has changed in the past two years or more. The voters knew what they were voting for..
Meanwhile a real Democrat just lost his sister: Proud Army Veteran, Beth Ann Kucinich, beloved youngest sister of Congressman Dennis Kucinich, died today, Veteran's Day, at Veteran's Hospital in Cleveland, after a battle with acute respiratory distress syndrome. She was 48 years old. Her family was at her side throughout the three week ordeal, as she struggled to survive while on life support.
Beth Ann Kucinich served in the US Army at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. A talented musician as well as an artist, she sold many of her works of art to her fellow veterans at the Brecksville Veterans Center. Her specialty was drawing famous cartoon characters for friends and loved ones on special occasions.

Yeah, right. CT voters said they didn't want to re-elect Traitor Joe in the last election either, but they went ahead and did it anyway.

The Reps elected Lieb in the last election. People in general don't like traitors. Obama is right, let Joe destroy himself. in my opinion he is through in politics. He is a very lonely man who has no respect.
