AMERICAblog: Oops, she did it again

Yeah, the indented reply format eliminates the need to cut and paste references and neatly organizes the information. Like it.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
Hillary looks more like George W Bush all the time.

BTW: I preferred the indented reply format.

If she can't have the nomination she wants to 'self-destruct'??
  • Mikki --SE Pennsylvania · 1 year ago
Grandma, today 10:27: Its just fine with my if she wants to self-destruct, but not if she is trying to take the party and the country with her. Whats she going to do when the news about the 14mil fraud suit hits the fan. Then we will see a really congressional level of "misspeaking."
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
So, not to hijack my own post, but how do folks like the linear progression of comments versus the indent thing we had for the first few days?
  • Mikki --SE Pennsylvania · 1 year ago
I have to cast my vote with those supprting the "indent thing." That allows readers to see a comment in direct relationship to the comment it makes reference to..
This was, I thought, one of the best things about the new system. Failing use of the "indent thing," one often has to ID the name and time of the comment being responded to, so that it will make sense: it places it in context, so to speak, which may not be immediately apparent, if relegated the the general thread.

    John

I prefer linear, it seems conversation flows more naturally.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Well, Hillary may actually learn something when she loses the Dem nomination--it wasn't such a good idea to hire Mark Penn and his cohorts from the lobbying industry after all...

Or may write a book, "How I learned to fight dirty like a Republican and lost the Democratic nomination."
  • grandma · 1 year ago
I prefer it this way too....don't have to keep scrolling to see replies

OMG...just read this at Chicago Tribune The Swamp:

Clinton camp tags Obama for 'the audacity of nope'

......Yet camp Clinton wants to place the blame for inaction in the lap of camp Obama, which has maintained that it played by the rules in Michigan and Florida.

“Sen. Obama is turning the Audacity of Hope into the audacity of nope,’’ said Phil Singer, a spokesman for the Clinton campaign, with a reference to Obama's campaign book in a conference call with reporters this morning.

    This way is better John.

Well, I don't see the shamrock scarf...so I guess this means more than once.

( And Hillary says she, "particullary remembers")

    So I'll ask this again....

If she remembers it so clearly...WHEN did it happen?... if it's not at this particular event...it's OBVIOUS that the "this"event happened...but Where?

Wouldn't there be some secret service log records or military records to back up her story about the First Lady and sniper fire?
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Who the hell is running the Pentagon? MSNBC just reported that an AF base in Wyoming "mistakenly" sent non-nuclear ballistic missile parts to Taiwan.

How many more "mistakes" and incompetence can we afford?

Was the "mistake" really in not sending "nuclear" parts?

So what trip did she confuse this with? Did she ever experience "running to our cars with our heads down"? Or "evasive manuvers" that she was "rushed to the cock pit" and "everyone had to sit on their armoured vests"? Either she lied outright or she confused two trips in different countries. I tend to believe that she lied because if such a trip had happened, she would have been on every channel talking herself up and she would have brought it up endless times BEFORE the 3 AM ad.... They will do ANYTHING and SAY ANYTHING to win. I am really starting to hate them and I am realllllly starting to feel stupid for ever defending these people!
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Folks, if she did have to duck, and run for cover, it would have been a big story internationally. When you keep repeating the same lie many times, you are deliberately misleading the people. This only indicates that Hillary will lie to win that nomination, and haven't we had enough of liars these last few year?
They lied us into war, covered it up, and still act secretive.
Do we want a continuation of these kind of politics?
At 3am in the morning, what lies will Hillary utter?
    We cannot trust her.

    Who does this sound like....

My Atlantic colleague Joshua Green has written often about Hillary Clinton's inner circle, and one of his broader conclusions is that its members value loyalty to Clinton more than they value other, more politically valuable traits, like competence......

HILLARY CLINTON SHOWS US THE AUDACITY OF LYING (and of being divisive).
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
Oh, dear. I really wish she had some trusted advisor who could tell her the things she needs to hear, but doesn't want to hear. She's actually much better than the last few months of her campaign has made her out to be, and she shouldn't have needed to go this route. Her team really didn't understand that what worked in the 1990s isn't working today.

I think she needs to figure out a graceful exit strategy, I really do. For herself, for the party, for the country. There is still much she can do as a powerful senior member of Congress.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Mike, the bulk of her advisors (no pun intended) are led by Mark Penn, lobbyist, and his cronies.

What else do you expect except lies, deception and distortions?
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
Indeed, this is a huge part of the problem, she's been ill-served by these folks, and in some ways I think they were expecting a different kind of campaign.

I think this would have been a fine campaign to run against the GOP, for example -- using their own weapons against them. But as a strategy in the primaries, it's not working, and I'm afraid these advisors are more interested in her money than in her victory.
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
John, I think I like linear better. No offense to Kos, but sometimes his comments section is a little confusing.
  • EdNSted · 1 year ago
As I pointed out last night, Ronald Reagan told some mighty tall tales and yet this did not seem to disqualify him as President. Still. Eric Hoffer is quoted as saying:

"“Those in possession of absolute power can not only prophesy and make their prophecies come true, but they can also lie and make their lies come true."
  • Jimbo62 · 1 year ago
I just can't believe that she is so stupid. People keep saying she is so smart, this was just plain dumb. And she hasn't apparently learned anything from it. She keeps digging the hole deeper. I'm glad the MSM has finally started talking about it. I think it will probably inspire the media to look into other claims she has made. And I want to know why bringing up the "Blue Dress" is considered negative campaigning, truth should never be considered negative campaigning.

I prefer the linear progression as well. I'm not all that crazy about the DISQUS system, it's a jump away from AmBlog and then a jump back in alienating hypetexting. It'd be good for it to have a spelling-checker or at least a proof sample before posting, but it is what it is. But what're the choice? Holoscam or DISQUSt? Oh, well, VL (virtual life) in cyberspace is often cosmetic but never pretty.
Sort of like Hillary, poor thing.
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
Something else I'd like to say, and I hope I don't sound too stupid saying it. And I say this being an Obama supporter who, for the first time ever, has actually contributed money to a presidential campaign.

Maybe you can tell what's in a person's heart just looking at them and maybe you can't (George Bush sure as hell can't -- see Putin, Vladimir). Seeing the film of Hilary's "harrowing" experience in Bosnia, my main thought, seeing her smile as she's being kissed by that little girl, is that she's really not a bad person. I've never thought that, and I don't think that now. I admire her. And you know, if she had run a more positive campaign (see Carville, James), I would have had a much harder time choosing.

Despite this brou-ha-ha over her Bosnia statements, I still think she's capable of being president. I just think Obama would be a better choice. I keep hoping that she'll realize what she's doing to the party, and concede, but frankly she's painted herself into a corner and can't back down at this point. I know it sounds crazy, but if by some miracle Obama could eke out a win in Pennsylvania, she could withdraw gracefully and be a part of the storm that's going to blow out the Republican party in November.

Wouldn't that be great? ALL of us working together against the people who've gutted our democracy for the past eight years! Sigh. Well, I can dream, can't I?
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Deacon, you're much too kind, I think. In that footage with the little girl, I noticed that Clinton allowed herself to be hugged and kissed by the girl, but didn't reciprocate. Seemed more like the Pope's ring being kissed or something similar.

It ALWAYS about Clinton, and no other.

    John said:

"So, not to hijack my own post, but how do folks like the linear progression of comments versus the indent thing we had for the first few days?"

I'm still having trouble getting use to Disqus. After my initial complaints I've been trying to adapt to the change. First the linear thread thing - yes, it is better, though we need to now be more clear what post we are REPLYing to.

Many other problems persit. The "Add New Comment" box has issues - specifically it doesn't scroll the way it should scroll when you are moving the cursor around with the arrow keys. The insertion point actually DOES move but the screen is not refresh so it gets confusing sometimes where your cursor actually is.

I'm still having a terrible time with IE7 and Disqus. Frequently Disqus (the main Disqus page) says I'm logged in but the comments area on the AmericaBlog page does not appear to recognize that I'm logged in. When this happens I can usually get around it by going to the Disqus page, logging out, logging back in, then freshing the Ablog page.

If, from the Ablog HOME PAGE, I click on "Comments", my browser appears to totally lock up for 30-60 seconds. If I first click on the post title and go to that post's page, this problem does not occur.

IE6 seems to be somewhat more compatible. Firefox is also pretty good.

There are some things about Disqus I like. Being able to see all your posts in one place, seeing the number of replies, being able to folllow other posters.

Haloscan certainly had a number of problems too. And I know Disqus gives you much more control over problem posters. I guess I don't see Disqus as huge improvement on my end (more like trading all of Haloscan's warts for those of Disqus). But I can see where Disqus is a better choice for your end. I'll keep trying on my end.

Bush, who oversaw 152 executions as Texas governor, disagreed with the decision. But he said it must be carried out by state courts because the United States had agreed to abide by the world court's rulings in such cases. The administration argued that the president's declaration is reason enough for Texas to grant Medellin a new hearing.

Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, disagreed. Roberts said the international court decision cannot be forced upon the states.

The president may not "establish binding rules of decision that pre-empt contrary state law," Roberts said. Neither does the treaty, by itself, require individual states to take action, he said.

    Question...

Chelsea Clinton seem like a nice young woman.

You would think that if her mom was saying something "so" wrong...that Chelsea would of stepped up and said,

"Mom, I don't remember that happening"
    "Where did that happen mom?"

I'm just saying that if Chelsea is standing there an letting her mom stand there and say such wrong things......

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I did not realize that Hillary standing at the podium in her black/green scarf, was answering a question from a reporter. I thought she was just giving a speech.'Now this video, shows the real picture. She had the opportunity to remedy the story, and straighten it out, but she preferred to LIE so brazenly.

I think perhaps we have to accept the fact that Hillary is subject to "brain-farts" just like her friend Insane McCain. Now had her slimy "advisor" Wolfson said this, he might have gotten more positive reaction to his attempted euphemisation around the fact that HILLARY LIED!

I prefer the indented/nested comment layout because when you reply to someone, it helps the flow of conversation, IMHO. Individuals can also set their own preferences for comments too, but only A-blog can set up the nestling feature.

If this were true (and it isn't) and she did come under sniper fire in Tuzla (which she didn't), then I really have to question the judgement of a mother who would expose her only daughter to the danger of being killed for a photo op.

What kind of sick individual would place their child in deadly danger for a publicity stunt?

I vote for the linear lineup of comments.
The indent, while looking cool, means comments can be added downthread hours after the original comment, thus making them easily lost.

Signin here on the thread to comment and not from Disqus.

For ease of loading pages, both the comment page and the Homepage, I added an AB icon to the browser toolbar. I click the browser Refresh arrows to refresh comments and the AB icon to return to and refresh the Homepage.

Firefox makes it all work better.

Read the Dem comments at Taylor Marsh and then tell me they are turned off by Hillary's lies and utterly shameful campaign.
    Hint: They are not.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    The solution to linear/indent preferences:

Using the indent format would be great if the the entire comment and its replies is moved to the top (or bottom, if that's how your lineup is set) of the thread when a new reply is published. That way, one doesn't have to scroll the thread in search of late-entered replies. Look at Crooks & Liars threads to see how this works.

If this is possible, then I would love the indent.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Hi Nigel.

The complaint about indent is that a comment and it's replies stay in its original place on the thread, thus it requires constant scrolling to find and read new replies and that can mean new replies can be missed.

If each time a reply is made to a comment, the whole thing, comment and replies, publishes at the top (or bottom) of the thread as a "new" comment (like at C&L), then probably everyone would prefer the indent format.

If the Disqus guys can make this work, then I much prefer the indented replies. But as it is now, I prefer the linear lineup.
