I woke up to hear that George Carlin has died of heart failure...RIP, George.

Hey John, I guess this might be a good time to ask how americablog.com 2.0 is coming along? Just curious. And somewhat anxious to see what you have cooking. Also, what is your opinion of how the comments are going using disqus? I am on the fence, I like having identifying handles, but it seems that the number of postings has fallen off, perhaps because of it. I don't know. Just a thought.

What are you doing up so late (early)? Me? I woke up hungry and am having some Snackwells. I know, pathetic. LOL. What a shame about George Carlin.
By the way, I am having trouble with Disqus with Internet Explorer 7- It does not format the Add New Comment field correctly and I cannot add a comment. Well I use Firefox anyway and I figure it is some Vista thingie. Vista sucks more than I do. LOL.
Thank you for listening.

Having the same problem you are with the comment box, Angela. And I'm a lark, an early riser. : ) Very early riser...around 3 is my rising time, and usually no one around the site. Not like the old days with HelloScan when the night crew held forth. {Sob}

Like George Carlin, I'm not a Baby Boomer, although I was friends with many and even have kids who were born at the end of that generation. Those of us born before the end of WWII were actually the precursor generation of the Boomers and identified with the Beats. Like Carlin, I'm something of a nihilist (but scratch the surface and you find the idealist).
He was as rough on the Boomers as being narcissistic and greedy as I am on them, and saw many of our own generation as being hypocritical prudes about what constitutes human existence and the substitution of religion for rational thought.
He would have received the Mark Twain Award at the Kennedy Center this year. I sure will miss him.

It's reported that he responded to the announcement of the Mark Twain Award by saying "Thank you, Mr. Twain. Have your people call my people."

I'm on the other end of the Baby Boom--born in the early 60s--technically a boomer, but I wasn't even aware during Woodstock and Viet Nam and Watergate and hated the true Boomers for giving us Disco and Yuppies and Social Security insolvency.

It's not we boomers who made Social Security insolvent. Our parents did it by having so many of us, and then making sure Social Security would take care of themselves nicely in conjunction with their defined benefit pensions, which of course now barely exist for the boomers and succeeding generations.
