Just a thought that I haven't seen discussed anywhere during the Sotomayor hearings..
Has anyone talked about the possibility that she may be gay? Did Obama pick the "trifecta"? Female, hispanic and GAY?
She's 55 years old, no mention of any previous marriage that I have seen anywhere. No mention of any children that I have seen anywhere.
She may or may not be gay. But, I find it odd that I haven't seen the possibility even brought up on any gay website.

The goings-on at Gitmo today really impressed the heck out of the overseas audience:
The news today has to be about healthcare. The major corporations are going to run it. The Government has no "soft" infrastructure to even think about running it. My average phone time to contact and explain things to my healthcare provider was in the realm of 40 minutes. The results of my call?: Zero, zip, nada.... Maybe we could just implement this stuff one state at a time? Or, study the Massachusettes model?

Alcohol induced psychosis or Governor Bob Riley had an affair with my neighbor? My new neighbor just went drinking with my partner. Nothing new there. She just moved in next door, and supposedly has connections. Well, supposedly, they were drinking in a very ritzy area of Tulsa and she got a call from UPI and was asked to confirm or deny she is Alabama governor Bob Riley's mistress. He said she started sobbing uncontrollably.
While my partner is sleeping it off, I'm wondering whether this is some kind of alcohol induced psychosis by her, him or both of them or whether or not there is any truth to the wild story! I mean, stranger things have happened in my life. I'm not going to dismiss it when more bizarre stuff has happened to me. It would be just like me to be living right next door to the next Republican scandal. I'll keep A-blog posted as to whether it is alcohol induced psychosis or not. As for me, I'm not going to dismiss this out of hand because too many other bizarre earth shaking things have occurred to me. For instance, how many people can say Willie Mays used to often make his famous barbeque as a gift of friendship to my father who played with him as a New York Met? How many can say they have a poem in the Smithsonian? For me, it would just be the status quo for something like this to happen. I'm still not ruling out alcohol psychosis and if I could get my partner to realize how important this is, I'd get to the bottom of it but right now he is just irritated I keep waking him up to ask for more details.

I get what you are saying about our connections, but the striking back part...? The Plan of dumbing down US citizens, effectively neutering the majority of us, scaring us into a docile public, has been very successful. Remember the news stories during Bush's reign of tanks with skin-burning infrared beams and tiny mechanical insects that can fly into crowds to gather information? There will be no uprising. Not in my lifetime, at least.
mf_roe
Friend, no great uprising started from principal. Ideals are always being tossed around and discussed, but that is never enough. Transitions are always due to a trigger event more often than not of trivial consequence in and of itself. the old saying the straw that broke the camel's back defines the concept.
We live in a tinderbox, we are months away from thousands of unemployed reaching the end of benefit checks. what happens when the people who have reached the end of their rope start gathering together. we are quickly reaching the point when talk will no longer satisfy the people begging for help. We may well not be close to the solution, but the start of the struggle is very close. If we finish the year without seeing serious unrest in this country I'll be surprised. We are watching the number of people who have lost everything grow. There is a point, critical mass, when these people will erupt.

I always learn from what you write, mf_roe, and of course it's true about the growing desperation of US citizens. I manage a charitable trust and I know how people are hurting. Ever hear the term leadership vacuum? when the time comes there will be many trying to fill the role of leader. Sadly there has never been a lack of people wanting to run the show. We always have a list of candidates, but you raise a valid point. I had hopes that Obama would understand just how much he could achieve if he truly acted like he spoke. The fact that he won indicates that people ARE ready for a change, his failure to deliver doesn't change that. For a long time our political system has been a toxic zone that many have chosen to avoid because the felt getting into politics made as much sense as jumping into a sewer. There are plenty of good people, plenty of smart people, plenty of honest people, plenty of committed people, plenty of pissed off people --------and I believe there will be plenty of people ready to lead when the tipping point comes

I ran into the same woman, in America from Australia for holiday, 3 times in a week. Two locations in Indianapolis and the following weekend on Michigan Ave in Chicago outside the water tower mall. We met the first time in the airport starbux in Indy and just kicked it off. By far the strangest thing that has ever happened to me. The same person from the other side of the globe over a geographical area of about 200 miles, in two states. I just happened to be looking for a winter coat at H&M. Wild, strange, and fucked up world right?

Jophus, when my partner and I were in Hawaii we were driving to the North Island and got side tracked by a sign advertising shrimp scampi. We took an out of the way road to a little trailer that cooked shrimp, and ate lunch there. While there we ran into a local Tulsa attorney and his girlfriend eating there, as well. My partner didn't believe it was them, so I shouted his name and he about fell out of his chair! It was very bizarre running into them like that. The next day we went to the other side of Oahu to explore and swim. The parking lot at the beach was full except for one slot, and we pulled in. We started walking on the beach and ran into them AGAIN! On the way back to our vehicle, we realized we had parked right next to them... A few years later, his nephew and my partner's son became very good friends. Bizarre, huh?

Well I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but the Matthew Shepard Act passed in the Senate today. But here's the kicker: Obama is threatening to VETO the bill. Why? Because the DUMBASSES in the Senate attached it to the Defense Budget Bill instead of passing it as its own bill. Obama is threatening to veto the bill because of F-22 funding.
Yes, now to get it before it gets bogged down with other crap.
Bill
I saw a report on t.v. about this act, and the reason that the Senate attached it to the Defense Bill was to ENSURE its passage (and to avoid a possible filibuster should the act be presented as a stand-alone bill). We already know that the Defense Bill HAS to go through. The Senate wanted to get the Shepard Act passed as quickly as possible, which this strategy would do. I disagree that the Senators are "dumbasses" for doing this.
The REAL story here lies with our "fierce advocate" once again backtracking on LGBT issues and ACTUALLY THREATENING to veto the entire bill because of the hate crimes legislation. It is beyond appalling and disgusting! What is WRONG with OBAMA? GEEZ, Mathew's mom was just in Washington the other day to push for this bill. What a slap in her face this is! AND wasn't it Obama who swore that he couldn't do ANYTHING important for the LGBT community unless Congress presented him with a bill? Well, Obama's been presented (or will be), and guess what....it's more of the same BS song and dance from him. It's difficult trying to come up with an adjective that is strong enough to describe my rage about this.
SD_Dave
According to all of the reports that I've seen and read, he's not threatening to veto it over the hate crimes attachment, he's supposedly threatening to veto it over the F-22 funding. I wouldn't put it past him to veto it over the hate crimes attachment, but if he vetoes it after the F-22 funding is removed (in committee,) then we will know for sure that it was the hate crimes attachment.
Bill
I guess we'll see. I really hope I'm wrong, but I don't trust Obama with advancing LGBT issues. He can make as many pretty speeches as he wants about ending discrimination (such as the one to the NAACP), but as they say "Actions speak louder than words." And I REALLY think that he has a problem with our community.
In the continuing story of the Rainbow Lounge incident in Fort Worth, Texas, the TABC said there were multiple mistakes make and one has already resigned.
Never mind. I guess it ended up being an issue with the owners not changing the address on their liquor license (and the owners are taking full responsibility.)
MarlinB
This was a different situation. Although in various comments, I believe that the Dallas PD and the TABC were able to do what they did, I felt the timing was wrong. The owners of the Dallas Eagle had not transferred their license over to their new place.
Please see this article and also the Instant Tea Blogs on the Dallas Voice.
The owners thought that their license had been transferred. They opened and then on the grand opening night the DPD shut them down. The sad part is why did they have to do that on that night. It wasn't as if the guys were just selling alcohol out of their truck. They had been in business less than a stone's throw away -- across the parking lot. They could have come in during lesser hours, but chose then. One of the sad parts is that the Dallas County Sheriff had been there earlier congratulating the owners on a successful opening.
If you don't know Lupe Valdez, the Dallas Sheriff, is a Spanish woman who is also an open and out lesbian.

I don't know why I haven't. I quit smoking cigarettes earlier this week and I hit the bowl twice about every 4 hours to curb the craving.
Now you're giving me ideas.... Trouble-maker!!! Be back in 5.
Congrats on stopping the cigs.
it's a small after all.
It's a small world after all
it's a small, small world! :::
Edit: I said that like those streets are common knowledge. They run parallel and share an alley in Chicago.
It is so frustrating for him to come home and mention something earth shattering like this, and not know if its the alcohol talking and nothing or just HUMONGOUS news. If its just alcoholic ramblings then I'll just laugh this off, but if there is any truth whatsoever to this its already been broken here first. Even if, at this point, its just a rumor! I figured its worth reporting the possibility on an open thread as an unconfirmed rumor... Knowing me, and my batting average in my life of wild and crazy things happening the story is absolutely true, and news vans will be camped outside our house tomorrow morning. Heh!
