Win or lose, Obama outspent Clinton 4-to-1. Tell me again, why is it that the so-called front-runner, Obama, is still having to fight it out with Clinton?
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Uh....Tex4Dem? You do know that Clinton has been the frontrunner for almost 2 years right? Right? Seriously, you know that right? Obama has come from nowhere to outdo little Miss Inevetible so why should it be a surprise to you that he hasn't completely finished her off yet?
  • ZennButtKicker (tlhwraith) · 1 year ago
    Tex4Dem:

Out of the last 18 primaries/caucuses, Obama has won 15.5 (.5 being the TX caucus), to Clintons 2.5 (.5 being the TX primary). that being said, do you actually think this is still a race, or just Clinton not knowing when she's wooped?

Imagine if you threw a party. The hour is getting late, you are getting tired, and almost everyone has gone home. Everyone, that is, except for that one person who doesn't quite realize that the party is over. So you (we) all have to sit around and politiely smile at the clueless individual, when it is very obvious that they are no longer welcome. That person that won't leave, that be Senator Clinton.

Let's face reality, if any of the other Democratic or Republican candidates had hung around, the same thing that we are seeing now probably would have happened, namingly every once and a while they may win a primary state or two, for whatever reason. In fact, Huckabee is a perfect example of that. Arguably, it was clear before even Romney dropped out that Huckabee wasn't going to win the nom, yet he still won states after that. Why didn't McCain clean sweep it? The case could be made that the other candidates bailed too early, but the reality is that modern POTUS elections generally go that way, the early races pretty much dictate the rest.

So, the problem isn't that Obama "can't finish her off", truthfully, it's kind of an absurd expectation to think he'd win every single primary contest, even if he is the frontrunner, the problem is Clinton is prolonging the agony. When is the last time you knew any candidate in the general or primaries to win every contest, EVER? Even one of the most dominant POTUSs in recent memory in terms of campaigns, Ronald Reagan, didn't win every single state (he came close).

The truth is, there is no fight except for the fact that Clinton doesn't know how to leave and not enough of the party has the stones to tell her to leave. If Obama was winning every single contest it would only demonstrate she is a horrible candidate, which she isn't, Obama was just better.

"why is it that the so-called front-runner, Obama, is still having to fight it out with Clinton?"

because Obama is not the front-runner in PA. I don't mind that he is putting up a fight there. would you want him to say that PA voters don't matter? all these new and re-energized PA voters will help him defeat McCain in november.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Why in holy hell is the Clinton campaign, including Clinton, claiming Obama cannot win because he couldn't close the deal in PA. What about ALL the fucking states he has won, what about the popular vote, what about the won delegates?

Where the hell is this VICTORY Clinton is proclaiming.

Electronic voting machines. Exit polls are meaningless.

"Win or lose, Obama outspent Clinton 4-to-1. Tell me again, why is it that the so-called front-runner, Obama, is still having to fight it out with Clinton?"

    ================

"Tex4Dem," Ya gotta have a lot of support to be able to outspend an opponent in an unfriendly demographic. If a Republican tried to run in San Francisco and had a lot of support they would have to outspend the Democrat 10 - 1 to even have a chance. It is no different for the Obama camp. Remember, Clinton founded the town of Scranton, Pennsylvania, fought in Iraq with the Pennsylvania National Guard and played football for Penn State so Obama definitely has to spend more to change some minds there! bwah hahahaa!

Wow, the media are great at changing goalposts, aren't they? Hillary had a TWENTY POINT lead at one time that has EVAPORATED and NOW he needs to win by over 7 points?!!? Jeesh, the media just won't give up on the whole horse race, and trying to draw this out and defeat the Democrats in the fall.

MSNBC just showed an exit poll that said 49% of voters think Obama treated Clinton unfairly. UNFAIRLY???

"MSNBC just showed an exit poll that said 49% of voters think Obama treated Clinton unfairly. UNFAIRLY???"

    ==========
Huh? What were they talking about? Context?
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
aquarius2, the same poll showed over 2/3 of Pennsylvanians thought hillary unfairly attacked Obama so she lost on that score.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
She needed a total blow out.

    It ain't gonna happen.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Actually, Obama outspent Clinton by 3-1. It took a lot to offset the racist remarks by the Clintons, the insinuations about Barack not being patriotic, etc., etc.

Meanwhile, Bill, when asked by a reporter about his race remarks, said something to the effect that I'm not racist, I have an office in Harlem....cheeeez!
  • grandma · 1 year ago
57% of Pennsylvanians believed that Sen. Clinton "attacked" unfairly compared to 49% who thought Obama did.

I don't know what they were talking about. It flashed across the bottom of the screen as they were speaking. No explanation, just the ever changing news bar at the bottom.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    Grandma

Thanks for that. Of course, MSNBC didn't flash that 57% number.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Here's ABC's poll numbers on who attacked unfairly the most.

Did they poll any men over 40 who are now gay but were married and have 2 daughters in high school and one son in college?

    Good Grief!
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
I noticed Pat Buchannan STILL says Hillary won Texas.
  • PeteWa · 1 year ago
    Hillary Clinton is a disaster.
What a complete fraud and disgusting display she has made of herself and her campaign.
Now I completely understand why she sided with Lieberman, Hillary is still a Republican as well.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Can Mrs. Alan Greenspan show her bias for Clinton more than she already does? I"m sure she was at dinner at the WH many, many times...
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Since the polls are open till 8 pm we should all take a pill. i will say that when I voted this morning the women were voting Hillary for the most part the men voting Obama.

Well, I must confess, Clinton has all those women conned into thinking she's a real feminist. Hell, she's not even a real Democrat...

O&W: I understand the sentiment of women supporting women it happens so rarely. But electing a President is not about feminism, it is about having an ethical, honest diplomat at the helm. Whether we like it or not we are the most powerful country in the world. China and Russia are poised to challenge that position so if we want to retain our influence we need someone who is NOT prepared to nuke someone at random who will act before that occurs to diplomatically calm the waters. That, after last night's display a total lack of diplomacy, is what this country needs. Feminism be damned this is about statesmanship and Hillary and McCain show a total lack of that important characteristic.

grandma, good news! Dare we hope that's the last we've seen of Stephie & Gibson?

Politico and Drudge are having some good exit poll numbers for Obama. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0408/9757.... Here is the money quote: " An Obama aide said that even if Clinton wins by 15 or 20 percentage points, she can’t change the race’s underlying dynamic." People need to be reminded that this is a devastating loss for the Clinton gang. No matter how the Hillbots try to spin it, her chances at getting the nomination are history.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
    lynchie, I totally agree.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Just saw Joe Scarborough and Harold Ford Jr. on MSNBC. their comment was if Obama doesn't win and win big it will prove that he can't win the country. Ford says that the superdelegates will have to examine his viability to beat McCain because he can't finish off Clinton, especially since he out spent her.

So now i see it. She is playing the underdog card, the tears and these ass clowns don't recognize that Obama won 15.5 primaries to Hillary's 5. Has more popular vote and more delegates. So Pennsylvania is Obama's watershed moment. After hearing this I have serious doubts whether the coronation of the Clinton's is not pre ordained and that this is what the super delegates were waiting for. They can now hold their nose and not face the wrath of the Clintonistas by support her bitchness.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Just a thought. What happens if, by some miracle, Clinton loses? She has already said "Why can't he close the deal?.

So what happens if he should win?
  • Your_Uncle_Bastard · 1 year ago
Can someone please explain to me - understanding that I am NO FAN of the campaign Clinton's been running or how they've behaved in general and do not support her - why there's all this ink being spilled calling white voters who vote for Hillary racist, when black folks voting for Obama are just seen as supporters? WTF?

Willing to entertain all arguments, because I. Just. Don't. GET IT.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Conned?

Doesn't say much for women, OlderAndWiser, particularly older women who think of themselves as feminists.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Lucky for the nation, OlderAndWiser, there are older, feminist women who are informed and committed beyond a single issue. We need more older and wiser women. :)

Careful there, Belinda. Your true colors are leaking....

So true, PeteWa, yet here we sit praying her PA win isn't too great.
