AMERICAblog: Palin agrees with Obama, and not McCain, on going into Pakistan to catch terrorists

  • scytherius · 1 year ago
She doesn't know wha] the Bush Doctrin is???? My 15 year old grandson knows what the Bush Doctrine is. She is absolutely STUPID
  • bluestockton · 1 year ago
The 9/11 terrorists did not murder 3,000 AMERICANS. One of the passengers on United Flight 93 was a Japanese student, and the victims in the World Trade Center were citizens of many different countries. Hint: maybe that's why it was called the WORLD Trade Center? More America-centric ignorance.

Poor Charlie tried to toss her softballs.

But they just weren't soft enough.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
True. it was painful to watch....almost.

It was like he was helping a dumb kid pass an oral exam.
  • tribalpeanut · 1 year ago
Here's an example of a softball: "How will you, as the vice president of The United States, work to better America?" These are what I call the high school short essay answer questions. They suck, eh? She wasn't asked any high school short answer essay questions. In fact most of the questions she was asked were divisive, leading or baiting. These were hardly softballs and I'd expect no less from a known liberal democrat that Gibson is.

*edit* I realized that I insinuated that Gibson was being mean or something because he's a liberal, but that isn't what I meant. I simply meant that I felt like he did his job well and that these questions were made to be hard because he personally had motivation to scrutinize her.

Come on, you all know that it doesn't matter what Ms. Palin has to say or what she knows.... We MUST wait for Charlie's wrap up commentary to tell us what it all meant.

    We're watching you Charlie.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
How come only Rachel and Matthews is on MSNBC now? I thought both Keith and Rach were OFF tonight.
  • LisaLV711 · 1 year ago
No she' s doing the wrap up, for lack of a better phrase, on the forum deal. I'm watching now.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Polly, I refused to watch the candidates on MSNBC as protest for taking Olbermann and Matthews off the anchor positions. I watched CNN. Now I am watching MSNBC for Rachel. I won't be watching the debates on MSNBC.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I am with you on the debates, but I was hoping to see Olbermann or Rachel tonight.

Don't know if you visit, but Rachel has a great blog over at Air America. Great threads, nice folks, intelligent discussion and a limited amount of trolls.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Thanks, Polly. I will check it out. However, warts and all, Ablog is home. lol
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Oh, I'm not suggesting you should leave, just suggesting another venue to "visit". Great place and Rachel DOES read the comments as well, so it's also kind of intimate in a sense. That is IF you like her and I think she's grand.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I know, sweetie. Good to see you, by the way.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    And you as well!
  • MalibuBarbie · 1 year ago
Darling, stop using your LOGIC on me. It's so BOOORING it makes my head hurt. Logical consistency is for perfessors and, like, loser egghead types.

Has anyone tried to paste into the comment box? I can not do it. I tried to use the shortcut keys as well as right click Paste. hmmmmmm

Matthews: "It is impossible for anyone to fail as much as our President has"
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
so is he advocating for McCain / Palin because they can't be as bad???
  • Reasonable · 1 year ago
Is it just me, or is there something wrong with the video links?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Youtube is off and on tonight. Keep trying
  • donotmakemecomedownthere · 1 year ago
She's more credible as a candidate when she doesn't do interviews.
  • Joneses · 1 year ago
It doesn't matter to the GOP. They are going to spin it to make it look like Palin is super smart and a true rock star.
  • butchcjg · 1 year ago
John - I miss the days when you had hundreds of comments in each story :( I find myself only checking Americablog once a day or so now and going to DailyKos instead since there's so many comments. Would you consider opening them back up or making it easier to comment? I find that the functionality of this Disqus thing is very bad!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
It is awkward at first, I agree, but you do get the knack of it after awhile.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
But no longer totally dominated by crazed trolls trading recipes with their other identities.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Well, there are still trolls here, albeit not as many. But the duplicate identities trading recipes thingie sounds OFF to me. Anyone in particular?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I remember hearing that sort of thing from someone else here as well and it didn't sell then either.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
    Duplicate identities trading recipes?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
That was the allegation. Crazy, I know
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
actually, the trolls WERE doing that for a while.

the pictures fix that issue though.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Trolls were cross posting recipes??? Seriously? What on earth has happened to trolldom when they trade recipes instead of insults.

How do the pictures FIX that?
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
There was one particularly nasty troll who posted as multiple people. It wasn't Gregory. And, it is now gone.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Well thank goodness for new software.

What about Gregory? Are you talking about "our" Gregory?
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Thanks, Soundboy..."allegation", jeez like I'm at Nuremberg.
Sarcasm has never really worked in these spaces...so dependent on tone...But we didn't imagine Greggy and his personas like some sort of Bobby Ewing Dallas dream season did we???
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Sorry, I haven't seen any of these duplicate persona's, however I have had one person in particular make accusations that a number of us (the real posters) were the same person.

Tell me, why recipes of all things?

    Hard to tell these days.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
    Hard to tell these days.

Flying so quickly to a negative assumption doesn't help, does it?
    Anyway, you, at least, responded.
I assumed long-term memory within our ambient awareness* forgetting that awareness could be unique and surfer specific.
Certain seemingly cryptic remarks of mine are simply intended to provoke a smile, not necessarily among all, when read, no more.

    * http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/07/magazine/07aw...
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Flying quickly to a negative assumption was kinda easy to do and doesn't always help, no. However, this stuff is just crazy and having been here for quite awhile now and having witnessed many a crazy post or two, it's hard to tell sometimes. Especially if the owner of the blog deletes the comment, that in and of itself throws the gist of the conversation into a different stage. Surely you can see that?

Listen, I have had a poster or two tell ME that they believed that an entire covey of the regulars here were the same person and now I hear there was a rowdy band of random trolls posting recipes.

This whole thing sounds nuts and I guess you can credit much of that to the time of year. Elections bring out the nuts and it seems we have a case of that here, or HAD.

You don't have to apologize to me, of all people, about your remarks, I don't take them harshly at all, but it seems that John did for some reason. Not having been posting round here a whole lot lately and not having been privy to the latest crazy cases of trolls & stuff, it is hard to know what is true. Heck, some idiot(s) have posted as me here and other places as well. So yes, it is hard to tell.

Look, no harm was done, your comment was deleted but so what, right? If this is the worst that happens to any of us this year, we are all very lucky.

Please don't be upset, it's all just misunderstandings and nonsense, nothing more. OK?
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Oh, I'm not at all upset just a little disappointed in certain people who appear to take my subtle lead more often than not. And though you have no memory of the actions I mentioned Soundboy (above) clearly does. Also, I personally was guilty of a recipe trade or two in those days myself (left and right still both love to eat if not seek truth). I just needed a quick generally truthful object to, what I had hoped was, a cute sentence.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Understood, and I value Soundboy's opinion on any matter, so I think this is cleared up.

    Pssst, What kinds of recipes?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I was once told that Aquarius2, myself, Karol, Busboy and one other person I can't remember were all the same person. AND that person was absolutely positive about all of that clap trap as well.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Goodness a comment removed...A joking reference to Gregory Lyons et al...Or, did I imagine him?
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Considering all the stuff posted here I'd like to know why or how that particular attempt at humor crossed a line?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Beats me, but what's this about Gregory?
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
I can see what we can do, the problem is that the trolls got very nasty, and this was the best way to limit them - it was that or remove the comments entirely. Markos has 5 to 10 times our traffic, depending on the day, and thus that many more comments :-) But let me see.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
    No reply to my question?
  • butchcjg · 1 year ago
Thanks, John! I know Markos has more traffic, but it just feels like AmericaBlog has lost some of it's pizazz since the comments were changed. I know the trolls were horrible, but maybe there's some better way to do it. Maybe Americablog2.0 will be better!
  • Webster · 1 year ago
    Thank you, butch--

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has found the new setup and comment section unnecessarily unwieldy. I used to enjoy ABlog when you could comment at the end of the story, see there was a new comment, and get back into the fray right away. Now it takes so long to get around, I go elsewhere as well most of the time.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
I hope Charlie Gibson asks SP, don't you think your party is using you and would do ANYTHING to hang on to the opportunity to nominate future justices to the Supreme Court during the next Presidential term, including breaking the law?
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Wee-ha! That Palin woman, she sure can spin a yarn! Here's a rousing Welcome Back! for the Keystone Kops. They sure were comical, how they chased around and around. Those were the days. Black and white talkies at the movie thee-ay-tur in the air conditioning. Amos 'n Andy on the radio to keep the segregationists happy. Outhouses. Water heated on the stove for the Saturday night bath. A light bulb in the kitchen. A nice coal furnace in the basement. I'm telling you, the old days are on their way back.
  • canuck55 · 1 year ago
It's all fine and dandy that Sarah, Queen of the Tundra, agreed with Barak and showed her ignorance about the Bush doctrine, but if Charlie doesn't point this out to the viewers, many will not know that she screwed up. And he has an obligation, in reporting the news, to make it clear when she does F up. But he won't, because Mickey Mouse is a friggen Republican - after all the last Mickey cartoon WAS named Runaway Brain.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
She gets that scared WTF look Dubya always flashed for a second or two before the bluster kicked into gear but hers is also punctuated with that Perkins waitress nose scrunch and wink...Selling Tupperware, yes...Presidenting, no.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
still... when you watch Dubya pause... blink, blink, blink... stutter... chew on his lip...

you really want the sound effects engineer at the station to start throwing things in...

a little 'zzttzzt.... zzt...ztt...zzzzzzt.....[cricket noises].... errm, well... zztt...zttt... [da-DAH!]' then he finally answers the question about the Transformers movie.

....when the question was on Atomic energy.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I finally was able to watch this video. WOW, Sarah just rattles off nonesense. It's as if she is just saying lots of words just to fill in time.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and we had to do a book report. We would take each page we had written (in BIG type) and mount it on a piece of thick construction paper to make the report look bigger. LOL, even Charlie was overrun by "words?
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Gibson did comment on that, with his "blizzard of words" comment, and then asked her a yes or no question that she came at with another blizzard of words.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
I'm not going to hold my breath, but it would be nice if in one of her "interviews" the interviewer would say after one of her "word bombs" something to the effect of "Wow, you are skilled at bullshit, but can you answer the question?"
  • tribalpeanut · 1 year ago
Would you wish the same to be asked of Obama? You are allowing your political views to color your analysis.
  • tribalpeanut · 1 year ago
Her "blizzard of words" was a defense mechanism. Gibson, throughout the interview, tried to bait her into bad answers. Gibson is a shrewd interviewer; he was trying to get her to slip up. She knew that she was being lead into a divisive trap and avoided it by addressing the questions false assumptions.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
More painful than watching Palin make a fool of herself was watching Lou dobbs and his processed pack of pundits gush profusely the qualities of Sarah Baracutie
  • CitizenX · 1 year ago
Hey, but she called him Charlie. What's up with that?
  • kimbutgar · 1 year ago
I had trouble watching this last night. But I did watch closely the body language of Gibson and it showed he didn't like doing this interview and looked condescending because he knows this woman is a fraud!
  • leinad44 · 1 year ago
You think she was "fooled" into answering? I think she knew exactly what she was saying. She "totes" a gun and knows how to shoot. It's good she doesn't agree with McCain on everything. The President and Vice President is like a marriage. My wife and I don't agree on everything.
  • tribalpeanut · 1 year ago
Your argument has two logical fallacies. The first is a false assumption; that McCain and Obama were answering questions as Palin. The questions were not the same, and their answers were not the same. The second is a false dilemma; that Palin's answer and McCain's are opposed to each other. Palin agreed with McCain's statement when asked a different question: she said that any military action would be a "last resort".
