AMERICAblog: Palin bombs with voters in Michigan: "I was completely underwhelmed. She was a Republican novelty act with a sophomoric script. "

I hope the American people can see through her.

But I made an extra donation to Obama and said a "Hail Mary" just in case.

    Oh thanks for reminding me.

know what? McCain picked the kind of woman most people, especially women, cannot stand.

    tick tick tick...
  • lilyannerose · 1 year ago
LOL - Palin reminds me of that co-worker who bugs the hell out me, the one who is sly and cunning and almost has a brain. That's not a good thing.
  • curlytoes79 · 1 year ago
That nasally voice, those glasses, that hairdo...I expected her to come out and say "Class, today we're going to talk about dinosaurs..." This speech was devoid of substance, just like the woman giving it. People are losing their houses, their jobs, etc. but never fear, Todd Palin is a world champion snow machine racer!!

She came across, to my friends and I, as somewhat of a caricature of Elaine Bennis.

Also, look forward to Tina Fey returning to SNL as a guest to play her.

yeah, the dinosaurs that Jesus rode to church. Or maybe the Smurfette meets stegosaurus monstrosity that Cindy McCain had on.

Can they keep her from the media all fall?

I mean, the corporate media is pathetic, but even they see that she has a history of scandal and malfeasance.

Mika on Morning Joe (sorry I can't get off of this!) is absolutely ga-ga over Palin. Mika says Palin is a working mother (just like you Mika), she has 5 kids, she has to balance her job with her kids, this was the bestest ever campaign speech.

First Mika, she was speaking to a houseful of republicans! Of course they loved her. Second Mika, you can relate to her because she is a working mother just like you (as you are so fond of saying) but how many working mothers have the luxury of a huge salary? other people to take care of their children? (just like you!)

Please look beyond her speech which was written for her. I will give her that she was a good actress and delivered her lines well. But she is a phony. Just like you Mika.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
MSNBC is back to business as usual. When push comes to shove, they're still owned by a multi-Billionaire.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Does Mika EVER think an original thought? She is a nothing more than a parrot for every word Joe spouts. Apparently IF you want to work with Joe Scarborough you MUST always agree with him.

Phony is exactly the word to describe Mika.
  • LisaLV711 · 1 year ago
Mika is so full of it! I work with plenty of REAL LIFE working mothers, (I'm not one of them) and trust me they are not impressed. If they had their way, they certainly wouldn't be here. Mika nor this Palin "thing" impress me. Working mothers aren't a novelty --- they are a necessity. It's not cute and should not be something adored. Hillary, even when she was in the White House, never put a great emphasis on it. It's old and they need to come out of the back woods and chime in with the real world.

my sister has been in agony for nine months over the situation with her (special needs) kid. The truth is that for most women it is really, really hard to go off and leave that kid at daycare. It's tough, it's painful, and there is always guilt. My sister and her hubby have no income. She's looking at putting a little one with a cleft (soft and hard) palate and a g-tube in a special needs day care just so she can go back to work and have benefits again. These last four months have been stressful, terrifying, heart-wrenching.

It's so funny that I don't get *any* feeling like that from Palin. Nothing, no emotional dilemnas at all. In fact my suspicion is that her reason for the lack of maternity leave is that she wanted to keep the power balance in her little political kingdom 'as is' and she was afraid she'd lose footing if she wasn't there. That, of course, came way before Trig's best interests.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
She was getting do much money from The Feds while she was mayor of Bumfuck....how could she have left them in debt?

i used to live there. the city employes she was in charge of are aoub 50 people. the City office is a little store front in a strip mall. I think it is next to a pawn shop/check cashing place and there is a chicken join nearby.

    They loved her.

I've been reading mainstream sites and listening to cspan callins and outside of the gop base, the speech and Palin were a bomb.
It will be interesting in a few days when polls come out because i've been reading reports of individuals jumping to Obama and from people living in the midwest from local reaction.
the speech played terrible in the midwest.
The pundits will look like fools in a few days when the polls come out.

Oh God, I hadn't seen her in awhile, to quote the famous movie line...."She's baaaaaaack!!!"
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
As I listened to Palin's "speech," I thought to myself that Ann Coulter must have written it. It had no substance to it at all. She was like a spoiled rotten teenager who'd just gotten jilted and was spewing mindless venom ad nauseum, but regrettably her Mom was not there to tell her to grow up and shut up.

When a certifiable fascist like Bay Buchanan loves her, you know you should be concerned. It's the hate-filled 1992 Republican convention all over again.

  • AC_in_MI · 1 year ago
Well, I'm up in the thumb of Michigan (hey, look at a map if you don't get it) in a rural area. I don't think anyone changed their minds about her over this speech. Republicans are going to vote Repub, Dems Dem. The undecided are having a tough decision this year. There are many that won't vote for Obama either because they don't think he is experienced enough and some that won't vote for him because he is black. Some won't vote for McCain because of his age, and now I think it is a wash on whether Palin is adding or losing votes for him up here. I certainly would be interested in a poll showing how people in the cities are reacting versus those in the farmland.

Here is a Denver Colorado poll, lower right on your screen. It is showing 50/50

  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Maybe she didn't play well in Michigan but according to a TV station here in Denver the decision is split 50/50. Check for yourself, the poll is low on the right side. Colorado is a key state and every time one of these polls are published in comes out almost 50/50. Obama is going to have to do some VERY hard campaigning.

Many people don't know about the many scandals around Palin yet. As they learn about how she tried to fire her town librarian for refusing to ban the books that Palin didn't like, and how her minister tells people that anyone who criticises Bush will go to hell, they will turn away from her.

I predict a scandal-a-day involving Palin from now til election day. And she will be smushed like a bug in her debate with Biden.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
A scandal a day! I like that! Actually we've had that and more the last week or so haven't we? I was hoping for something big this morning when I got up but they day is still young!

This would be good but would it be printed?? What is going to happen is the Palin is going to dominate the press and will it be positive or negative? I am really worried about this.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
I think it will. McCain is pissing off the press and they apparently are fed up with him. Bad for them, good for us. That Kilkenny letter is getting around too.

Plus I'm remember her brother-in-law's family hates her. They are surely behind some of the stuff that has been printed. There is probably so much out there that it's a shame it's already September.

Hate to say it, but ......

What happens if Bristol really isn't pregnant and is actually in the process of trying to lose the baby fat from her last pregnancy.......only to go on and say that Liberal Bloggers caused her to lose her baby that never existed?

Think about it. The sympathy vote will count for something. People are stupid.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
BB, I thought about that too when I saw pictures of Bristol taken yesterday and pictures taken some time ago. She looks less pregnant now. How does that happen?
Palin has wrapped herself in lies and this onion will be slowly peeled - lie after lie after lie.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
    Strangest thing.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
She is shameful using her Down Syndrome baby to show she supports special programs while her record shows she has cut these programs in Alaska. She used her pregnant daughter to show the fundies how she is anti choice.
And, McCain has the nerve to tell the media her family is off limits.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Not any more, he's introduced them to the world. Now, it's all fair game.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
.........especially when the baby is getting handed off to a woman whom had her arm in a cast just 4 days ago. How come when Palin was first brought out, they made Bristol hold the baby?

Sarah needed to mention that those columns matched Cindy's dress.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
I think I might know why. Because when I first saw Bristol holding that baby, I had a visceral reaction. To get completely dopey, I had a reaction 'in my uterus'. Three words jumped into my head completely involuntarily: "that's her kid". I don't know whether I was just hallucinating, or what. But that was my instantaneous gut reaction, for what it's worth. I think they realize people are picking up on the loving way that Bristol cradles that kid...I don't get that at all from the way his supposed mother holds him, she's mostly just pimping him out. I have to say that that scenario of Bristol becoming unpregnant and blaming it on the left would be likely. But Americans, except for far right extremists, really aren't that stupid, and the blame would circle back around to Palin I think.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
What is shameful is McCain and his ilk screaming about unfair negative coverage of Palin's family and then blasting their images, including a 5 month old baby, all over the TV .

Someone should tell McSame that you can't have it both ways. You either keep the family private or you take the heat for exposing them.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
We either need a due date or a list of whom they would blame if Bristol miscarries.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
The argument that Bristol cannot be the mother of Trig because he was born in April and she got pregnant in May doesn't necessarily fly either. Who is to say that she is 5 months pregnant and not 2 or 3? We just have the Palins' word for it, and their word doesn't stand for much.

i think republicans love her because 'working moms' from stepford iowa know enough to stay out of the way when the men are being deciders. now compare this person to hillary clinton. alternate universe?

the focus group references to cheerleading, HS speeches, etc., would be attacked as demeaning to women if somebody important said them. however, the remarks seem to be coming from ordinary women.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Republicans love her because she doesn't discuss the Patriot Act and she feels that the wealth have no busuness paying taxes.

Big Gov't is only good when they convene to give more corporate tax breaks that promise to keep wages stagnant.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Well, I'd pick another state in which to locate Stepford. Obama is leading in Iowa by 9 points, and GWB took the state in '04 by only 0.7%. Doesn't Obama need to win only one more state than Gore and Kerry did?
  • DCinDC · 1 year ago
That is what I was telling my friends. I felt the speech was not that good. It seemed she was stiff and her delivery was off. Almost as if she was reading it. The content of the speech avoided tough topics like the budget and job loss. The only thing was the audience over cheering and that even got old as the speech went on downhill. It was really just the same old same old.
  • PJT · 1 year ago
She *WAS* reading it! Not that it is any different from anyone else speaking. However, several times, there were camera shots over her shoulder, where you could actually see the text of the speech on the teleprompter. Amongst my friends watching this, I referred to those moments a "Read along with Sarah."
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I didn't like the speech on a number of levels but IF I were Republican I would have thought it was a winner. They seem to love attack, it is all they know, attack. From that point of view it was out of the ballpark.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago

  • megcho · 1 year ago
Where is Hillary, and why hasn't she commented yet? Anyone have any ideas? I've been wondering since last Friday.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Agreed. Her closest associates say that she is livid over Palin thinking she can just step in and all of Hillary's support will now go to her. Even putting aside the argument that Hillary should attack for the good of the party, you would think Hillary would want to do it for her own good. I still think she hasn't given up on the idea of becoming the first woman president or vice president, and the last thing she would want is for Palin to accomplish that. Maybe Hillary is negotiating right now for Obama to name her his VP pick for his second term.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
I think they are wisely strategizing. The media will spin it like rosie o'donnell vs. elizabeth hasselbeck no matter what they do. They have to be careful here. It's much better for Palin to doom herself one day at a time than appear 'under attack'.

Yes, just another Rethug gimmick. Once again, McBush thought with his little head...I mean, come on, TWO beauty queens at one time?

What about this lightweight's stands on gay rights, abortion, birth control, evolution, etc? I smell an intellectual-hating, uneducated rat.

And another thing: the first thing that struck me about this woman's background was that she's an Alaskan. I remember when people talked about "Alaska escapists" who turned their backs on the the lower 48. Remember, she's part of that mindset. Alaska Independence Party, anyone?
  • LisaLV711 · 1 year ago
She's a loser. I mean not to mention one issue. As the kid on the block if I were her I wouldn't be so quick to step on so many people's toes in spite of what Rove told her to do. Look where he is. It's hard for me to conceive but I know it's true, that at 15,000 that maybe perhaps were in that room can believe that garbage the spewed from her moose eating mouth. There was nothing exciting about her or that so-called "speech". And Rudy G, I KNOW he's on prescription drugs (that's what they take, you know -- it's okay) because he, too, couldn't possibly believe the crap the was spewed from his mouth. McCain blew it this time and if he hadn't pick a moose killer, he could have perhaps, run for dog-catcher. Now he can't even do that! Between the two of them, they have managed to piss off everybody but the kool-aid drinkers in the room. They need more than that to win this election.

That's okay...she rules the roost anyway. And it was reported this morning that as part of the refund on excess oil profits garnered by the oil companies up there, the Palins' take was over $22,000 last year...they don't need his income anyway. I'm sure the Rethugs will keep them up very nicely as well.

And now that Bristol's "baby daddy" has been introduced to the world, do the Rethugs think they're fair game now? I thought so...even the VP nominee isn't being allowed to be questioned by reporters. How offensive...the person who would be a heartbeat from the presidency now being allowed to be questioned by anyone not in the McBush campaign? What if Obama had said the same about Joe Biden?

this is the other side of sexism for me; "pretty, popular, etc"...when women go to break down glass ceilings not only do we have to deal with across the board sexism but also this mutual exploitation of less than qualified opportunistic women using their 'advantages' to get into positions they don't deserve, over women that do, and scores of men out there using their power to catapult these women to positions they certainly don't deserve to be in . Palin is pretty much a middle-aged intern, I think.

Mr. Obama has said, as a nation "we are better than these last eight years."
We are better than the aged Rethug slogans and attacks that have so damaged our good name and institutions.
As I, while soothing fears stoked by so much ugliness, explained to some people in recovery this morning...
They always attack and mock any concept of hope or faith but particularly those expressions of the popular will as expressed in the Obama campaign.
They ridicule the faculty that guides and enlightens the full human range across time from primitive to techno-industrial.
That is the power of faith and hope that most on the road to recovery have often painfully discovered.
That innocent faith, maybe expressed by clutching holy beads or even a teddy bear, is the most powerful tool in the human survival kit and the one guiding force that changes a junkie into a human being.
This power...really the motive power of America...must again be harnessed for the common good.
Mr. Obama is the crystallization, the manifestation of something much larger than tactics.
He and his beautiful family represent far better than the ugliness of the GOP re-whitened ticket sepulcher the very best expression of all we hope to be...

As a person who lived in Michigan for almost thirty years I'm glad to see that they are not as stupid as the Republicans think they are. I first moved to Michigan from a southern state because it was the place to go for good jobs and high pay. How long has it been since anybody has been able to make that statement?
The Republicans say this is not a campaign on "Issues" it is a campaign on "Personalities" . I say they are wrong. If the Republicans believe their own talking points then their ticket should read Palin/ McCain. For according to them Palin is much more qualified to lead than McCain will ever be. But even then they are wrong. This is not about Republican vs Democrat, Red State vs Blue State, Men Vs Women, Christan vs Non-Christian, or any other vs you can come up with. This election is to determon if the United States of America is to survive in any form that would be reconizable to the "Founding Fathers" who created it.
No I say, It is the issues, damn't. Do we want a strong country with a strong economy that is respected around the world as a moral intellegent leader or do we want to be lead by a talking head that uses smoke and mirrors to try and keep the public dazed and confused as they turn the country into something only a brain dead faithful fallower would want to live in.
Thank you Michigan for showing that the voters are not as stupid as they think we are. And lets hope that the rest of the Amercian voters are able to do the same.
Vote for who you want. But remember you are not voting for a person, you are voting for the country you want to leave for the next generation.

    I am not a Republican
    I am an American
    I love this Country
And I am not going to see it dystroyed.

Color me shocked that aiming a speech and convention entirely at the Republican base, people who think Bush is a great President, and the 20% who think this country in on the right track would totally bomb with Independents.

she scares me, with her ability to instantly galvanize the far and religious right. she is dangerous, and the dems don't have a good record of responding to this kind of campaigning. but she is vulnerable: "oh, so you don't think it is important and valuable to get out into the community you are going to represent and fight for? perhaps that is why the republicans are so out of touch, why they have so many over-the-top wealthy members and supporters, why cindy thinks it is ok to wear $300,000 worth of clothes and accessories in these difficult economic times."

I am not in the great state of MI, but I must agree with all of the remarks. I am a 40 year old mother of two and a registered republican; but I will not register as an Independant and vote for McCain. When I saw Obama's speech; I was inspired by his vision of an America with a common purpose, going forward into the future with a sense of hope. When I saw Sarah Palin, all I felt was sad and angry for her divisive tone and off hand diminishing of the work of community organizers. Someone should remind her that it is 'community organizers in the sufferage movement that gave her the right to be in the position she is today. It was community organizers who helped to end slavery, build unioins and challenge America to live up to it's promise through the civil rights movement. I do not want to live in McCain/Palin's America. It's a scary place we have all lived in for the last eight years. Eight truly is enough!

My name say's it all! Sara Palin should be ashamed of herself as should the rest of the pundits. ....All she did as stated by the blogger above was make a case for the Obama/Biden ticket. Her speech had no substance. Those of of you who say you know who she is would you please tell me where she stands on anything that is important to the nation. What is the plan for our economy, energy, education system, I heard nothing about any of that. All the RNC has has done over the last 3 days is be mean spirited and divisive.....enough already! We are after all supposed to be one america!

sophomoric is a really good word for it. why don't we just go all the way and call her a beeyotch, lol. That crack about "community organizer" and Obama was really lame. I think this kind of person can only embarass the GOP though. I don't think Palin 'gets it' yet, that her boobs and her charm aren't going to work on all 300 million of us as good as they do the seven and a half people in Alaska but maybe it will sink in. To me it's just insulting to everyone in this nation what McCain is done. It's even insulting to evangelicals but they aren't smart enough to realize it.

WORKING CLASS PEOPLE, PLEASE FOCUS. THROUGHOUT THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION THEY DISPLAYED SIGNS LABELED "PROSPERITY'. ARE ANY OF YOU FEELING PROSPEROUS RIGHT NOW? PALIN DELIVERED A SPEECH MORE LIKE A STAND-UP COMIC. DO ANY OF YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR ECONOMICAL SITUATION IS COMICAL? AS AN INTELLIGENT, WOMAN, PALIN DID NOT SAY ONE THING ABOUT ISSUES WHICH MATTERS TO BE. SHE DEFINITELY DID NOT APPEAL TO ME - AS A MOTHER - WHEN WHEN ATTEMPTED TO PIMP HER DOWN SYNDROME BABY (or grandbaby) TO GET VOTES. THAT WAS VULGAR AND REPULSIVE. MOST IMPORTANTLY, JOHN MCCAIN HAD TO GET THIS INEXPERIENCED, FLOOZY TO RALLY HIS BASE. THEY APPEAR TO BE VOTING FOR PALIN FOR PRESIDENT AND NOT JOHN MCCAIN. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT JOHN MCCAIN'S ELECTABILITY WHEN HIS OWN PARTY DOES NOT WANT TO VOTE FOR HIM. BAY BUCHANAN WAS INTERVIEWED THIS A.M. ON MSNBC AND SHE ACTUALLY SAID SHE WAS NOT GOING TO THE RNC CONVENTION AND SHE WAS NOT GOING TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN. THANKS TO PALIN, SHE WILL NOW. PALIN IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT - OR IS SHE? MCCAIN SAID HE PUT THE COUNTRY FIRST. HE PICKED A WOMAN WHO SHE AND HER HUSBAND BELONG TO A PARTY WHICH WANTS TO SEPARATE FROM THE UNITED STATES. TALK ABOUT QUESTIONABLE PATRIOTISM. SO, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE CONSIDERING MCCAIN, DO YOU FEEL LUCKY?

Being distant, I don't see it like you all do but I wonder if the "religious Right" is still as influential as it was say five years ago. They seem to have had their credibility hit a lot over the past few years.

Maybe Miss Bulldog with lipstick should do some community organizing in the City of Oakland. That's where I came from before moving to Vegas. I still have friends there doing community organizing and I'm sure they can find a spot for her somewhere. Let's see how much a pit she really is. You see, they have REAL pitbulls! Oh, and that shotgun she loves to shoot moose with? Might be a good idea she bring it along.
