    no way. a republican lied?
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
    imagine that!! :-)
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Question: If McSame sends Cindy around New Orleans for photo ops, or if he goes himself have they considered how it might affect rescue operations? I mean, don't they have to have a BUBBLE of security around them? Wouldn't it be best for them to remain away since he isn't a Louisiana official. He is STILL just a Senator from Arizona and needs to ensure they don't get in the way of recovery efforts. Then again, John McSame always puts POLITICS FIRST!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
OT: But I couldn't resist. have you seen the video of her as a sportscaster? It's priceless!!!

    a campaign to nowhere
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Well, Palin just outdid me in my battle to determine if I am more qualified to be VP than she is. The biggest whopper of a lie I ever told was "No Mom, I've never smoked weed!"
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Make this a meme: Palin was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it.

BTW: no one in Alaska politics gets elected UNLESS they promise beaucoup handouts to the Alaska voters, who are the biggest, whitest welfare queens on the face of the earth. (I'll be my liberal self and exclude the Native Inuits from my snark).
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Uh, you have to realize why Alaska is such a welfare state. Employment is a disaster in that state hidden by the fact that most of the people are long term unemployed and counted among those no longer seeking employment even if that is untrue. One Alaskan correspondent hated Bush, thought the idea of drilling Anwar was a total disaster but voted for Bush because drilling would mean she would have real employment for the first time in a decade and a half. They survived on her husband's temporary employment in the salmon canneries and that sometimes she managed to sell home smoked salmon he "borrowed" from the canneries. Often they survived in the winter on moose that were roadkills handed out by the state troopers.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
I have to add that I have a hard time blaming Palin for being for the "bridge to nowhere" before she was against it. Yeah, it was dishonest, but given the desperate, poverty stricken straits of most of the citizens of her state, I almost admire her for lying. Any way she can get money for her state and to spend it within the state even if not for that bridge.

Yes, perhaps many Alaskans really should move to the lower 48 where they can find gainful employement. But life in Alaska is very different. It is more like the old frontier where there are huge distances to the next neighbor, where you sleep with firearms because you can wake up with a polar bear in your bedroom and you live by your ability to cope with the wild, eating off the land. My impression is that many Alaskans could no more survive in the lower 48 than Daniel Boone could survive in the modern world today. And, my guess is that 99.9% of us could not survive the first winter in Alaska. It may well be that many Alaskans are as disdainful of Bush as my correspondent, but supporting Bush, drilling and Palin is another matter of pure survival.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Good and sympathetic observations. But knowing Alaska as I do, believe me: the state is filled with people, or descendants of people, who were handed one-way bus tickets out of their CONUS hometowns and told to get as far away as possible.

Official account of birth of Palin's child questioned
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I heard the reason Sarah Palin didn't pursue her pageant competition was reoccurring criticism she didn't have enough experience. Sarah Palin COULD have been Miss Alaska in the Miss America competition but gave up because of "lack of experience." This does NOT stop her from becoming Vice President of the United States, though!

OFF TOPIC but news about Gannon/Guckert

He was one of the "15 Most Shocking Political Sex Scandals" shown today on E network. Unfortunately, Americablog was subsumed in bloggers who kept on the story.

I couldn't find a link at eonline.com for the show but Goggle lists it, including it's inclusion on AOL TV.

Palin is a liar. That's one of the qualifications for office in the GOP.

She has lied about the bridge issue and about the firing involving her brother in law.

    http://thinkprogress.org/2008/08/30/palin-wante... (Yglesias)

    Also from Sullivan:

We rely on elected officials not to use the power of their office to pursue personal agendas or vendettas. It's called an abuse of power. There is ample evidence that Palin used her power as governor to get her ex-brother-in-law fired. When his boss refused to fire him, she fired him. She first denied Monegan's claims of pressure to fire Wooten and then had to amend her story when evidence proved otherwise.

GOP = LIARS....the whole damn bunch.

if God doesn't listen to liars, she wouldn't hear any of us.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
We have videos of McCain denouncing the religious right. Now, he is a hypocrite. Lying, hypocrisy, stealing and maybe even murder are all keys to being a Republican. Oops! Forgot my own personal buagaboo with Republicans, racism and bigotry.
  • bkmn · 1 year ago
She would like to come off as a conservative, small government, spending less of your money with the bridge statement, BUT...

Alaska took the money for the bridge and used it for other projects, at the same time cutting two other projects for Ketchican...after she got their votes by supporting the bridge project.

If she was a small govt she would have made sure that the money never came to Alaska.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
If Gustav hits, I hope Republicans don't start celebrating with wild screaming and partying in Minnessota. I think they should TOTALLY reschedule. Otherwise, its just going to be disrespectful! In fact, I think if they REALLY wanted to be respectful they would STOP NOW and RESCHEDULE! What would Jesus do?
  • interlude · 1 year ago
Jesus wouldn't be near that gathering in St Paul...maybe down in the slums having dinner with friends, but he has NOTHING in common with those thugs.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
I think they should TOTALLY reschedule.

They should do what they have already done in practice, that is cancel their convention and concede the election to Obama. It is clear they are hoping for an Obama victory and saddling him with the total disaster, wreckage and desolation of this nation that Bush and his gang of criminals have left behind. Then one the second day of the Obama administration they will start with they knew all along Obama was a failure and it is all his fault, that Obama has destroyed this nation and flushed it down the toilet. Oops! No, I'm not advocating they trash Obama but get out of the way and let a truly qualified, capable and charismatic leader show how the president of this nation should perform the duties of his office.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Well, this pretty much says it all. Sarah Palin's mother-in-law doesn't know if she is willing to vote for her daughter-in-law because of her lack of experience:

  • interlude · 1 year ago
even more fun than Palin is Hillary's comment about her:
"Governor Palin will add an important new voice to the debate."

    thanks for nuthin' Hill
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
HRC is rapidly losing my recent new appreciation for her. I was less than thrilled by her comment about Palin, but I'm willing to wait a few days and see what happens, but still, it's very disturbing to say the least.

And before anyone says she said what she should have while being respectful of his choice, I disagree. I think a good statement would have been along the lines of "I welcome Senator McCain's pick, and while I am sure Gov Palin has been a capable leader for her state of Alaska, I do not want my supporters thinking for any moment that she shares the same values and ideals that I do. The McCain/Palin ticket is not the change this country needs....blah blah blah"
  • mirth · 1 year ago
I was shocked to read this Hillary quote about Palin, but not a bit surprised by it. Regardless her speechifying at the convention (which I did not listen to, her words and her voice and her self-serving political pandering being more than I can tolerate), she is still campaigning for McBush.
  • iWoman · 1 year ago
Obama basically said the same thing about Palin as Hillary did. They're just being respectful.

"Obama described Palin as 'a compelling person . . . with a terrific personal story. I'm sure that she will help make the case for Republicans.'"

    and

"Obama acknowledged Palin's ascent as the first woman named to a Republican presidential ticket, calling it 'one more indicator of this country moving forward . . . one more hit against that glass ceiling.'"

They BOTH went on to say that Palin's policies would lead America in the wrong direction.
  • osage · 1 year ago
In order to be a Bush/McCain “Republican”, you have to be willing to suspend your belief in reason, intelligence, honesty and morality. You have to be self-deluding, willfully ignorant, dishonest and hypocritical. Anyone who believes that John McCain believes Sarah Polin is the most qualified Republican to be the President of the United States in the the event he dies or becomes incapacitated, needs to recognize that what John McCain is trying to sell Americans is that Joe Lieberaman, Tom Ridge, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Fred Thompson, Ron Paul and Lindsey Graham and every Republican Senator and Representative in Congress are ALL LESS QUALIFIED to be President than Sarah Polin is. To believe that, you have to be irrational, stupid, gullible and or a liar!
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Reminds me of the nomination of Clarence Thomas when the first Bush said that Thomas was the best qualified candidate in the nation. Thomas is widely regarded by scholars as one of the least qualified to ever hold a seat on the Supreme Court.
  • bluestockton · 1 year ago
She also kept the money instead of sending it back to Washington. Someone should ask McCain how that squares with his promise to eliminate all earmarks--assuming that once the question is asked, he can remember it.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
I'm posting John's middle 3 sentences all over news sites I can find..."

I told Congress, thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere," Palin told the cheering McCain crowd, referring to Ketchikan's Gravina Island bridge.

But Palin was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it.

The Alaska governor campaigned in 2006 on a build-the-bridge platform.

Any site you can post on....post it!

I heard that Palin lied about something else <cough> granddaughter<cough>...
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Again, have to say, I don't know if I can hold it against her. Many of the Repugs would have thrown the second daughter, Bristol out or even pulled an "honor" killing to hide the shame. Bristol still lives with her family and if Palin is lying about who is the real mother of Trig, it could have been far worse and often is in these insanely fundamentalist religious families.

This story was also reported on at: http://mudflats.wordpress.com/ with the title:

"Palin is McCain’s Bridge to Nowhere. Thanks, But No Thanks."
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
You have to admit one thing. Obama's acceptance speech was one of the major moments in American history, but McCain managed to knock it off the headlines within 12 hours and render Obama to obscurity. As much as I hate to admit, that has to be a major, major, major accomplishment for McCain.

Even five years ago, I would have said that we would not see a Black man as a serious candidate for the presidency for at least another 50 years, if not 100. And could not imagine that there could be one with the charisma, intelligence and command of the English language to generate the massive excitement that Obama has achieved not only in this country but throughout the world. In Berlin, Merkel changed the venue twice on Obama and yet he drew a crowd of 200,000 to his speech there. In Denver, Obama had a standing room crowd in a 75,000 seat baseball stadium. The Democratic convention drew the 3rd largest TV viewing audience of all time only surpassed by two superbowl games. Where ever he goes, Obama is nearly worshipped, yet he seems to be modest and unassuming. Even if he is not elected, Obama has changed the shape of American politics, moving it 50-100 years into the future.

Let's therefore give McCain the credit he is due. McCain shoved Obama's candidacy to the back pages and as a forgotten item in the liberal blogs on the internet as well as the discussion in the neighborhoods, bedrooms and around the dinner tables. Friday night, there was a very loud discussion outside my apartment back window by a crowd of my neighbors that lasted nearly to midnight. Caught my attention when I heard a very loud “Fuck Biden!” However from there, the discussion was very civil (aside from the volume) and seemed to be very positive about Obama and Biden.

Less than twelve hours later, McCain managed to steal Obama's thunder and steal it in a big way. Only, I suspect that McCain's accomplishment is negative and will be a millstone around his neck that will drown him in November. Let's hope so. From what I've seen even Republican leaders are outspokenly against naming Palin as his veep on his ticket.
  • Lolis · 1 year ago
I guess it was unfortunate to shift the spotlight from Obama, but a record number of people watched his speech and got to make up their own minds, unfiltered from the pundit spin. He was the lede in all the print media the next day.

Someone online called the Palin pick, McCain's dead-cat bounce. I still say the more media scrutiny his campaign gets, the better this is. The media narrative has shifted--it's actually paying attention to the McCain campaign. Hopefully we can shift the conversation to the McCain/Palin ideologies. The fact that there is more interest in them could help us fight the whole "referendum on Obama" mindset in the media.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
As I said, by November, McCain's choice of Palin will be the millstone that will drown him and perhaps everything Republican. Any Republicans who are running will be forced to denounce the choice of Sarah Palin. Then again, going back to the first Bush, none ever denounced the idiocracy of having Dan Quayle a heartbeat away from the presidency.
  • Lolis · 1 year ago
This is actually a top story on Yahoo. The MSM is somewhat calling out Palin on her lies. Color me surprised.
  • MNUSA · 1 year ago
You're right. Truthfulness is not a valued trait amongst most of the Repubs. All that matters is winning. Also everyone ought to be asking why Alaska gets so much federal money when they can afford to give $1,200 rebates to its citizens, don't collect state income taxes and have no sales tax..
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
To say nothing of intelligence. In fact, all the virtues that are held in high regard by liberals and progressives, such as honesty, integrity, character, honor, love of neighbors, charity and open mindedness are all despised and rejected as disgusting, Commie, pinko, fag, sissy, unmanly, weak, unpatriotic, elitist, unAmerican, N----- loving and ivory tower ideals.

If no one has posted it, here's a money YouTube of Palin not opposing the "Bridge to Nowhere when running for Gov.
