In a society that trumps cult of personality over anything, including competency, responsibiltiy, morality, ethics, etc., Sarah Palin is the new American Idol. And her "Bridge To Nowhere/Theeenks but no theeenks" shpiel is her "A Moment Like This." Her base will be upset if they DON'T hear it. If she were Skynrd, it'd be her Freebird. If she were Steve Martin circa 1978, it'd be her "Well, Ex-cuuuuuse MEEEE!" If she were Gary Coleman, it'd be her "What'choo talkin' bout, Willis?" The base needs to hear it because they want to believe it, no matter if it's trueor not. They create their own reality, remember? And if they're excited over the lie, the GOP rationale is that excitement will do their work for them. But if the base isn't satisfied, they're sunk. So, Palin opposed the Bridge to Nowhere, case closed, and they'll ride that pony until it drops dead or they find a stronger pony that will support a lie better.

Absofuckinlutely and it gives them a great reason to not vote for the black guy. There, it is said. Race is a factor that nobody ever talks about and it IS A FACTOR. I've been working phones for weeks and you wouldn't believe the reasons people give for not voting for Obama.
I'd LOVE to tell them. "Why don't you just say you won't vote for the black guy?"
btw, I'm white, late 50's, and I'm a closet socialist LOL

Faith is such an important facet of Palin's existence. she really beleives she was against it.
Somebody in Obama camp stated that she should have sold the bridge on E-Bay.

we really can't underestimate the problem of not having a free press. and we don't have one. if we win this election, we better fix it.

Seems like McCain & Palin are planning on continuing all of the Bush methods, especially lying about things that can be fact-checked.

The media controls the message...just today I am reading an article on why BAD ECONOMIC TIMES ARE ACTUALLY GOOD FOR HEALTH (9/9 Chi Trib).
In the same paper I'm reading countless articles (puff pieces) on Palin....she's "as tough and beautiful as her native state, Alaska"! And on the radio, McCain has the election pretty much sewn up!
The public has digested 8 years of lies.....why should be expect the truth out of the media. And that's what makes me very scared in this election.....the media is owned by rethugs. McCain and Palin will present themselves in anyway they see politically advantageous; and lies....so what? The media will never call them out on it....because their cronies own it.

Republicans care nothing about the truth. The media doesn't care. To them its a ratings game - plain and simple. Obama can only do so much, Keith, Rachel, and John and his fellow bloggers etc. When are the American people going to stop and take a good hard look at ourselves? It all comes down to us - what we think, what we believe.
The republicans have figured out that a lot of us don't know what to believe and don't question whether someone is telling the truth or not. In that sense, they have outplayed us. We have morons among us who have no idea that they are being taking advantage of by the people they purport to love. Rush Limpass tells them to jump and they beg to know how high. They don't see that this idiot is raking in millions of dollars because of their ignorance on how things actually work. Meanwhile, they can't get ahead and they end up blaming it on the people who honest and truly want to make it better for them. You just want to slap them sometimes. How the hell do you get through to people? How much worse do things have to get before everyone wakes up?

A bit off topic, but one VERY important question I think someone needs to ask Palin: "If John McCain were to pass away, and you ascended to the presidency, whom would you choose as your vice president?" This is VERY important because it would make it easy for someone from the far right to get in, when America thinks they were electing a "mavericks?

Yeah dad, and Charlie Gibson will probably ask her the hard questions like 'what is your favorite color of snowmobile, and 'just how cold DOES it get up there in Iditarod Land?'

heard a McSame commercial this morning on ABC during Good Morning America....They have done it again. The commercial has that woman's voice used in the other McCain commercial voice overs. they have the chanting of the "celebrity" ad and then she says, (paraphrasing here) "He has the same tired ideas...That's not change. That's more of the same." in a mocking tone.
anyone else see Obama on Countdown last night? it almost seemed as though Olbermann was asking/pleading with him to get his campaign on the Kerry-esque. He askes him is he thinks his message is too complicated, why won't he say that McPalin is lying, does he need to get more aggressive. Obama kept giving these Kerry like answers. I wanted to scream!!! Quit acting like a brown version of Kerry! I finally found the campaing e-mail address and e-mailed twice begging them to get them essage down to some soundbites. WE get it. but the slower people now need soundbites. when they walk into the voting book they are going to hear all those slogans McCain stole from Obama ringing in their ears!
That is just downright wrong. they wait for Obama to to have a phrase or ad and then they steal it. they now have the benefit of the phrase having aired for 2 months when they have only paid for the last two weeks. this is so frustrating.

She can't even lie "off the cuff." It's a SCRIPTED lie. But the rednecks of suburban Cincinnati ate it up with a spoon, anyway.

I think people should also mention the best part of the story: she took the money appropriated for the bridge and just spent it on other state pork projects. That's mavericky. Thanks but no thanks to the bridge, but thanks for the money we do have uses for that.
She spent a lot on the ROAD to the Bridge to Nowhere in case there ever is a bridge. THAT makes sense.

. . . which is exactly why the news media need to have unfettered access to Palin. AND SOON. If she can't face the press, ALL THE PRESS, she's not fit to be VP let alone President.
Is McCain trying to run out the clock, so the only information the public will have about Palin is scripted words written by faceless speech writers?????????

IDEA: Make nice flyers with her top three lies, with sourcing for the truth and hand them out as people arrive or leave an event with McCain/Palin.
Freedom of speech and press. They can get mad but that might get the press to discuss the lies.

I think the Bradley Effect is happening now with poll numbers. This is a good thing. If Obama sheds the dead wieght (those who were not going to vote for him but would not admit it) then his path to 270 is less clouded. Those voters have a reason/excuse to to not vote for him (Palin) and God help them. Shed the wieght now.... work on increasing the DEM base (ground game) and focus on the issues. This is the path to victory!

Someone should begin a 'lie-count' , in the same way we use the famous 'clock' to mark how long it will take before she finally speaks to the press. She's obviously sticking her thumb in everyone's eye every time she repeats this obvious, blatant lie. Let's keep a 'count' until she stops.

It's difficult to battle truthiness when the media sucks so terribly. Can't you start some kind of boycott of advertisers or something?

The funny part is these journalist will have to live in the same, " hell hole" we will if she wins. If they care what kind of a country their kids get raised in, they would stop telling Palins lies.

The more they lie, and get clips on it over and over again, they are feeding the press for when they finally do get a hold of her. This lying will have a big backlash. It's funny they are the NEW change campaign but can't even change a few words in a speech.

I'm not so confident in a media backlash. The MSM are clearly scared of the McCain campaign. It's difficult to battle truthiness when the media suck so terribly.
