AMERICAblog: Palin's fringe party colleague: "We don't say we're Americans. We say we're Alaskans."

This story started to surface yesterday when everyone was consumed with the pregnancies. The AIP story is whats going to bury her, though. This is a very big deal.....enemies, foreign and domestic.
Bubbles

This association actually explains why she risked her pregnancy to get back to Alaska to have her baby. Some of the things I've read suggest that AIP members make a distinction between Americans and native born Alaskans.

You need to listen to McCain closer, he says "Put 49/50th's of America First" so this is all consistent with his pledge. Nothing is wrong. All is well.
Maybe McCain's crack staff will select Lydon LaRouche or Alex Jones as a running mate after Palin falls to the wayside.
It is becoming apparent that the Palin choice was used to soothe over Ron Paul supporters.

Is McCain losing it! My God its one thing after another with him. How can the republican party justify this woman. If this would be a dem no let up at all. I think the dems need to start going after her big time. She's running for office she wants to play with the big league...let's play...

I want to hear from McShame's own ghoulish lips just how he explains this issue away. It so totally proves McShame's operatives did NOT thoroughly vet Sarah Palin, per haps did not vet her at all before the announcement. It also proves she is a liar, at least in NOT telling the whole truth about her background and past involvements. The woman is a publicity-hungry tramp and I think McShame picked her solely as eye candy, in a fit of pique because he apparently could not have one of his own choices. He becomes more odious and offensive as each day passes.

It seems, at least to me, that Palin is beginning to emerge as a woman who will say or do anything to get elected. She will tell your group what they want to hear and then reverse it.

Okay, McCain attacked Obama on his friendship with a member of the Chicago 7, mind you a "friendship". Obama was too young to even be remotely connected to the Chicago 7 YET McCain has made a big issue of this.
Sarah Palin was part of and engaged activities of the AIP whose motto is Alaska First. The Republicans are saying she was never a part of this party so that makes ALL people that knew Palin as a member are liars OR deaf and dumb. You cannot sweep this away by saying "she has always been a Republican".

It's like in the Olympic gymnastics or diving when it comes to patriotism. The Republicans automatically have a high start value up around 9.5.. you know because they are republicans and obviously love America... whereas Democrats have a start value of around 3.5 so even if they do everything perfectly they still probably burn the american flag in their sleep.

Alaska Separatists are white supremacists; just scratch one inch below the surface. They also HATE sharing oil wealth with the lower 48. So they are also greedy pigs with no sense of commonwealth. They want to be left to their own inbred, provincial, xenophobic, racist, Christianist devices.
moreleesafer

yup. that was my impression. Some folks would not even shop at the Safeway because it was a "Lower 48 store" and only shopped at Carr's Grocery. But then Safeway gobbled up the chain.....
and the "It's our oil" attitude is spot on.
The white supremacist thing....yeah, the town of Wasilla had exactly 2 black families when I was there. And mine was the second one.

Can we let Alaska go if they take Texas along with 'em?
If they hate "liberal" US so much why would they consider joining Canada? I think that Palin ditched this group cause even she knew she was smartest person in the room - it only took her 5 years to figure that one out.

And how appropriate that, while running a campaign against a black man, John McCain's running mate joins the secessionists ranks, which have historically included national politicians who opposed the abolition of slavery.

I've also noticed she says "these" United States a lot. Wasn't that the common tern used before the civil war when states thought themselves more as independent nations - rather than a province of a greater nation? I have gut feeling of which side she'd be on back then...she's definitely a states rights lady!
bluestockton
Not sure about "these United States," but before the Civil War, Americans said "the United States are." Afterward, "is" came into use.
Bit of trivia: Queen Victoria treated "news" as a plural noun and would say "the news are good."
MarkoSparko
Perhaps that's what I'm thinking of.... history isn't my best subject! ;) I think the British actually still use "are" in a lot of case where we Americans would use "is" ...like: "the media is bias"...they'd say "the media are bias". I think!? lol

In British English, any noun that represents multiple parts, such as the parliament, is treated as a plural. We used to have collective nouns in American English, too, but some wise publishers and dictionary compilers got rid of them.

mikep

I think you might have it a bit backwards. "Real" Americans believe in freedom, independence, self-determination and human rights. That's why we're working so hard to get out of a union that is so strongly opposed to these things, and is committed to using violence to suppress them. No real American would possibly advocate continuing this union, which has done so much damage to this country and the world at large. The sooner the federal nightmare ends the better off we'll all be.
"When was the last time anyone on a ticket wanted that? 1856? 1860?"
Actually it's 2008. There are millions of Americans who are disgusted and want out, especially in the west. Only liberals and neo-cons who love war want to continue the union.

Perfect. Let Palin's placement on the ticket stroke this kind of bullshit. If the Dems don't use this AIP connection they will be throwing away an opportunity to expose just how warped the Republican party has become. It would amount to political malpractice for the Dems not to drive this one home.

Joe, much as I'd love to see a smoking gun on Palin, the fact is that all politicians meet with, and make speeches in front of, constituents whom they don't always agree with or even like. Unless it can be proved that Sarah paid dues to the secessionist group in 2007, this may be a non-issue.

Please don't denigrate the poor. There is nothing wrong with being impoverished. What we need to hold against the right is not that they are based among the poor but that they appeal to the values of rednecks, uneducated and stupid people. They bad mouth Blacks and Hispanics as too lazy to work and pay taxes, but I know one such redneck family that didn't not pay income taxes for 20 years, also didn't get drivers licenses for the family members, nor register their cars. Daughter ran a red light, got into car wreck that wrapped her 280Z around her, but somehow managed to escape with only minor bruises and scratches, but was unconscious when cut out of the car and taken to the hospital. Fortunately, accident was within blocks of their home as her brother managed to sneak through the police line and remove her 45 revolver from the wreckage before the car was hauled away by the wrecking company. Many, many other typical redneck stories about that family even more outrageous. They never were poor.

Dee Dee Meyers thought that Obama vacationing in Hawaii was an exotic and unAmerican place. At least, Hawaiians acknowledge they are part of the 50 states and welcome that. But this candidate is a supporter of a separatist movement in Alaska ... how is that not unAmerican. I suppose the skin color is telling. All those darkies in Hawaii. Whereas in Alaska, the perception is that it is largely a White state.

If Obama had belonged to a party like that, or Biden, then Andrea Mitchell and other Republican cheerleaders would be SCREECHING about it 24/7 and asking every Democrat they interview about this horrible scandal. I can hear the questions, "How do you expect Americans to trust Obama when he selected a running mate who wanted his state to secede from America?"
jdeisenberg

Unfortunately, the spin on this will be: "See? She's really a maverick. This is proof that she's not tied down to the Beltway/Washington insider mentality." (And if Alaska did secede, there would be her foreign policy experience right there...)

I am fascinated by this story about Palin and the AIP, but it doesn't seem to have any legs in MSM. ABC is reporting on it, sort of: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09... But the McCain campaign is denying it completely. They've got a record of Palin as a registered Republican going back to when she turned 18, it looks like: http://hotair.cachefly.net/images/2008-09/palin... How is this story ever going to break in a big way?

Whatever. I'm curiouser to know to what church Ms Palin pledges allegiance. Her theology is strangely like a trailer park variation on Sunday Morning Television Churchianity. First Alaskan Church of the Backwards Bible? Does she speak in tongues? Does she practice snake-handling? Does she clap and dance and sing and jump up and down? Does she play lead guitar for the church choir? Tambourine? What?
