AMERICAblog: Palin's pals in the Alaska Independence Party had ties to terrorist state Iran. Yes, Iran. The country that wants to wipe Israel off the map.

Sarah's grandchild will be named: Joseph Mahmoud Palin-Johnston in honor of the family's ties to the AIP and Eye-ran.

It's insane that this isn't getting more play. Hopefully it will. If Obama were within 10,000 miles of a story like this we would be swimming in the foam coming from the MSM's mouth. And Gov. Palin would be banging on it relentlessly with that g*dawful accent of hers.

Obama has a way of sidling up and stick the knife in without making a lot of noise. Maybe he's got a plan to stick them with this too.

I totally agree that this needs more mainstream media coverage. This right-wing loon scares me every time she opens her mouth, and this is a glimpse into her background that begs for closer scrutiny.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
wait til that great patriotic American, Sean Hannity hears about THIS! Why, I expect him to be all over this like red and white on blue, with Martina McBride belting out "Let Freedom Ring" in the background.

I feel certain, certain i say, that Sean will call out the Alaska Independence Party and the guy who called Old Glory that "damn flag" as being anti-American to the nth degree! Isn't that right, Sean?

There's a letter on Geekswithguns.com from Mark Chryson, Wasilla resident and former chair and vice chair of the Alaska Independence Party, highlighting their 15 year friendship and praising Sarah Palin:

"I just wanted to let you know … Sarah Palin who McCain just picked as the next vice president is one of the most honest people I have known. I have known her for over 15 years, been in her house and have had numerous conversations with her, in person, on the phone both for personal issues as well as political issues."

I don't know how to do a link, so maybe someone could do that.

Seems like a 15 year personal and political relationship with the former chair of a party advocating the secession of Alaska from the United States is more relevant than Obama's relationship with Ayers.

might be a good idea to save a copy of that before it slips down the memory hole.

Good idea. I'm on my way to a meeting. Could someone else do that?

I'm still waiting for someone to ask that campaign what is the status of Palin's national security clearance. Can she even get one?

    Wow! WOW!!

I no longer doubt that the reason the Christian right and all the dirty Republican politicians and thugs they have been supporting these past 8 years will do ANYTHING to STEAL this election just like 2000 and 2004 is to ....

TRY and HIDE all their TREASONOUS ACTS and STAY OUT OF PRISON!.

John McSame --- "Excuse me, but just who the hell vetted Palin?"
  • nsr · 1 year ago
Mark Shields thinks McCain was so peeved at being denied the company of his good friend Lieberman, he refused to go along with anyone his advisors suggested, and picked Palin to get back at them. Sounds logical.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Yes, it does sound logical considering how he crashed all those jets in the Navy. I think he did that simply out of an attitude problem. He wanted to show he could destroy multi-million dollar jets and not suffer any consequences because he is John McCain. Remember, our tax dollars paid for all those jets McCain destroyed.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
    that DOES sound like mcsame...

his 'maverick' votes were all because someone in his party pissed him off... so he voted against them to spite them.

Why does David Gregory on MSNBC refuse to discuss this issue or even talk about it? He loves talking about Ayers?

So let's put this new Palin story in simple terms.

    A. One year after the founder of the AIP worked with Iran, an enemy of the U.S. and Israel, to publicly embarrass the U.S. at the United Nations, Sarah Palin attended the AIP convention.

    B. The following year, at a time when the AIP founder was advocating secession from the United States, Palin's husband joined the AIP. He remained a member until recently, so Sarah Palin was arguably "sleeping with the enemy" while she was a public official. (Btw, does anyone know if the mayor of Wasilla has to swear to uphold the U.S. Constitution?)

    C. Then earlier this year, as governor of Alaska, she again praised the AIP, which is pledged to break the Union?

    D. Sarah Palin and her husband have been for 15 years affiliated with and praised an organization that has actively consorted with an enemy of the United States. It continues to be committed to secession from the U.S.

    Where's the story here?

"The country that wants to wipe Israel off the map. "

Can we please stop using this phrase? The Farsi language has no phrase like this. The quote in question referred to the Israeli government (not the people) being erased from the pages of time. It was meant as an attack on the government, not as a threat to the people who live there. The Iranian government is far from perfect. There is no reason to exaggerate their negatives. Bad enough should be bad enough. Obviously, conservatives want to inflate them into the Biggest Threat Ever. But why should we go along? And why should you, Joe?
  • cmpnwtr · 1 year ago
Okay, Joe, let's get the story out there in the corporate media!
  • IamSmartypants · 1 year ago
Alaska Constitution Article 12, Section 5
    § 5. Oath of Office
All public officers, before entering upon the duties of their offices, shall take and subscribe to the following oath or affirmation: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska, and that I will faithfully discharge my duties as . . . to the best of my ability." The legislature may prescribe further oaths or affirmations.

    From the AIP web site:
"Although it is widely thought to be a secessionist movement, the Party makes great effort to emphasize that its primary goal is merely a vote on secession."

The AIP denies the legitimacy of the 1958 vote by Alaskans to become a state. They make a show on their web site of supporting the U.S. Constitution, but there is no provision in the Constitution for states to secede. Essentially they and their supporters are anti-constitutional.

Does Governor Palin care to comment or explain how her support for the AIP is not a violation of her oath of office?

    OT'

Anyone watching David Gregory defending McCain. David and Pat Buchanan are literally tearing Obama to shreds. Jesus Chirst, just who put Gregory on national TV. I can even take Chris Matthews over the highly biased David Gregory.
  • cardbbfan · 1 year ago
So how do you get this out to the mainstream media? I hear them covering McCain/Palin spewing crap but nothing about this which I find much more relevant than William Ayers in the 1960s.
  • bob915 · 1 year ago
    I'm with ya cardbbfan
Who's with me? There got to be some way to get this to Keith O. Ed Shultz, Stephanie Miller, Bill Press, Rachael M. S OMEBODY WITH ACCESS TO THE AIRWAVES. Is it too much to hope the MSM picks this up?
  • Happy_Housewife · 1 year ago
It would only be a problem if the Palin's were black, and we were talking about the African Independence Party.

I hate to be cynical, but if the only attention it's getting is on TPM and Salon, it will get absolutely no attention on the TV. And if it doesn't happen on the TV, it doesn't happen to the majority of folks in this country.

With that being said, please, please, please, please let me be wrong :-)

Hey Joe, Olberman is on the case. He hits Palin on Vogler and AIP and Muthee:

It would be nice if video of Palin praising the AIP would "turn up".
  • gonzalez · 1 year ago
This does no good unless it gets out into the MSM - abc, cbs, nbc, cnn, msnbc, cnbc, etc....How do we go about getting it out right away. It seems as if the Obama campaing is not interested in Palin and we all know she is just a pig with lipstick. Let the blogers do ssomething. Forward this to the media.

Totally agree with your posting and count on your site for active response to stupid racist/fascist lies and criminal exaggerations.

I'd prefer to counter the Republican filth on the merits of progressive arguments, though, instead of using the ultimately false Republican talking point of Iran wanting to wipe Israel off the map. This GOP line of attack is misleading at best, as Ahmadinejad didn't say he wants to destroy Israel but instead wished the geopolitical entity there was not a Jewish state but an inclusive one. That is what the reference to the map is. FYI.

Sorry for the parsing, but I feel there's enough hysterical incitement to attack a relatively passive Iran as it is, without adding to that incitement.
