AMERICAblog: Palin's son-in-law gets job that may be illegal nepotism job

  • devlzadvocate · 10 months ago
How is is possible? He laid for it . PAID for it. No, PRAYED for it. (rerun)
  • Matt · 10 months ago
Why can't this trashy family just go back into the woodwork? Palin has become a Bush like figure, and it is amazing that there are Americans out there, who think she is so great.

Hasn't Bush cured them from their desire to have Ignoramus as leader of this country?
  • AdmNaismith · 10 months ago
    It hasn't though.

There are a couple of retired types at my gym in Burbank CA that just think Palin is the greatest thing ever. As far as they are concerned, absolutely no one is more qualified (cough, cough) at running a business or a government. Nothing anyone can say will convince them she's really just another crooked pol.

I'm going out of my mind wondering what this country is coming to when someone like Palin and her whole unmarried, pregnant-teen family is held up as a model of virtue.
  • JohnInTexas · 10 months ago
My republican relatives are just like her, knocking up their wives before they married, or getting knocked up and not marrying the father of the baby, it's just how those people are. I don't understand it either. And they all preach abstinence only, or as little sex education as possible, then the babies start popping out like popcorn and they wonder why, what did they do wrong...then pray about it some more. Like that blue collar comedian said, "You can't fix stupid."
  • Mark in Florida · 10 months ago
    Stupid is as Stupid does....
  • Mark in Florida · 10 months ago
THAT is the truly frightening thing about all of this. She has given a voice to, and elevated ignorance as something of which to be proud.

The electrical apprenticeship program here in Seattle (administered by our great public power company, City Light) is very difficult to get into - they only have a few openings ever year, and you have to have some pretty impressive mathematical skills to even be let in. Just for giggles, I tried the pre-test and was totally swamped by it.

On a side note, it's too bad that schools aren't more aggressive in pushing apprenticeship programs. There's a lot of bright kids out there who just aren't cut out for college, and apprenticeship programs could do wonders in setting them up for a well-paying career.
  • Mollie · 10 months ago
I agree with you 100% Happy Houswife. I live in Wis., and there are so may kids that need programs like that. My grandson got in as an apprentice carpenter this past summer. The test for that is very, very hard. Our nephew is a carpenter and our grandson got in through him when he passed his test. Apprenticeship programs would be great.

I think they prefer to be called The Wasilla Hillbillies.

Seriously, tho, I had no idea Alaska was so similar to Alabama.
  • moreleesafer · 10 months ago
that was my assessment from my time there. I have stated frequently on this blog:

Alaska is populated by Alambans who moved to the final frontier because they thought that the law against marrying your sister was waaaaaay to strict.
  • Bush_Bites · 10 months ago
    LOL!
  • smallhandff · 10 months ago
Wait a sec. Weren't those two wild n crazy kids supposed to have married prior to the election? What next, a pardon for Levis' mom?
  • catdance · 10 months ago
Maybe not a pardon for the Levi Mama (yet -- Levi may have to actually marry the Tripp Mama in order to get his mama off), but the Alaskan press is rumbling that the investigation of Mrs. Johnston's drug dealing and her arrest were held back while the Queen Hillbilly made an ass of herself across our great nation.
  • Bush_Bites · 10 months ago
    Ha! Chicago Park District!

Reminds me of the story about when Jesse Jackson Sr. first came to Chicago, with a letter of introduction from N.C.'s governor to Mayor Daley (Sr.), saying he's a bright prospect with a real future in government.

Daley told him "Well, if you contact your precinct captain, and spend a few years knocking on doors and getting the vote out, we may be able to find you a good job working in one of the booths on the tollway."
  • gwpriester · 10 months ago
Sounds like Bush Jr. when he jumped to the top of the waiting list for the Air National Guard. Must be a republican thing?
  • HillbillyTN · 10 months ago
As a true proud 11th generation liberal East Tennessee Hillbilly, I take offense to your usage of the word hillbilly.
  • JohnInTexas · 10 months ago
Wonder why he didn't just go back to his old high school and finish...
  • icebergslim · 10 months ago
AMEN. On the Chicago Park District. You could only get those jobs if you KNEW SOMEONE. My moms was a precinct captain and we always got those jobs, no shit. So, Sarah Palin just keeps her track going don't she, her Hillbilly media track. Trying to clean up a kid who did not give a damn about staying in school, Palin was an absent mother, her daughter lived with her sister, and hey what do teenagers do win there is no guidance around? Since, Levi's mom is about to go to jail on drug charges. That family can STAY in Alaska for good.
  • AdmNaismith · 10 months ago
'Levi's mom is about to go to jail on drug charges.'

But she was arrested only AFTER the election, because of intervention from Sarah Palin. It might have looked bad for Palin and this shows she clearly knew it.
  • slappymagoo · 10 months ago
As a group-New Years' resolution, I'm going to ask all of you to refrain from any reply of the "I am shocked! Shocked I say" variety for this story. Thanks to Republican corruption, that joke is no longer funny, no longer painfully funny, no longer edgy. Just sad that it's been used so damned often lo these past 8 years.
  • caphillprof · 10 months ago
and this is the salvation of the Republican Party?
  • Mark in Florida · 10 months ago
Yup. It pretty much represents how many in the party think. How scary is that??
  • nicho · 10 months ago
Isn't that what Palin's son Track was doing before he got into trouble with the law and joined the service? If I remember correctly, he was working, without a high school diploma, as an apprentice on the North Slope.
  • catdance · 10 months ago
Really? He did that while high on hillbilly heroin? I don't know where he got the energy and time to cut the brake lines on those school buses.
  • RevDrBillyBob · 10 months ago
He's not working as an electrical apprentice. . . He's working as an electrical APPLIANCE. duh.
  • larry · 10 months ago
    This is national news how?
  • nicho · 10 months ago
Because, like it or not, Sarah Palin is a national figure and will be like gum on our shoe for years to come. She isn't going away. How she conducts her affairs -- nepotism and all -- is significant.

Or the Bushes and the Texas Air National Guard.

Or the Bushes and the White House.

Or the Clintons and the Senate.

Or the Kennedys and the Senate.
  • Older_Wiser · 10 months ago
Those jobs are highly sought in AK on the North Slope; you're up there 6 months out of the year and can make 6 figures; 6 months off. It's right next door to ANWR, at Proudhoe Bay.

Not only that, but there is some belief in Alaska that Levi's mother, the Oxycontin peddler, was surveilled for months, but arrest was put off until after the national election. I did a little research, and the house that family lives in had a quit claim deed filed in 2005, the mother turning over all rights to the property to the father, Keith Johnston, who I believe is also an oil worker. That way, the property could not be seized in a drug raid, so the drug dealing probably had been going on for quite a while. The father could claim total ignorance of illegal activities.

Fed funds are involved in just about everything in AK and a lot of those programs are also geared toward Native Alaskans who generally don't have the pull that the Levi Johnstons do. Wonder if the Toddster had anything to do with it? He is the power behind the throne up there, you know.

From your prejudicial use of "hillbilly" to your ignorance of how the world works to your blinded overlook of how our current p[resident got to where he is, this column just gets nuttier and nuttier.

please, enough of the drug abusing, high-school dropout, pregnant-out-of-wedlock, freeloaders (allegedly)

  • CMcC · 10 months ago
You write, "Apparently, there's also a long waiting list to get these jobs, and Levi appears to have jumped to the head of the line."

Uh, where have I heard this before? How about the Texas Air National Guard and George W. Bush, circa 1968.

Sarah Palin and her clan truly represent the modern Republican Party.
  • JustAnOldLady · 10 months ago
It has always outraged me when I heard GWB say he chose to serve the country in the National Guard........ uh, yeah. He, like my husband, lost his deferment in 1968, only diff was my husband couldn't get in the National Guard so he went to Vietnam in 1969.....
  • MNUSA · 10 months ago
Most young men couldn't get into the guard - they were drafted.
  • archiesdad · 10 months ago
You're right about the Chicago Park District. I took the test for Lincoln Park Zoo. I came out 1st on the test. I was a perfect match for such a job. It would have been my dream job. I couldn't get in there to save my soul. It is those things in politics that really rankle. AI still have this house full of pets, it would be so much easier to keep them at the zoo. I even went crawling to the Cook County Commissioner. Nothing.
  • MNUSA · 10 months ago
Kind of like "W" getting into the National Guard when there was a waiting list a mile long. They just shouldn't try to convince us that life is fair.
  • WordSmith · 10 months ago
And anyone who was alive and cognizant during that time - as I was - knows for a fucking fact that the National Guard then was, not so much a joke, as a ride.
  • WordSmith · 10 months ago
AND has anyone mentioned, he's a fucking WHITE boy without an ounce of native blood.

See THIS is the kind of shit the whites up there do to the native population.

What happened to that state Ethics Investigation of Gov. Palin???! Besides her baldfaced denials, AFTER BEING CONVICTED!

By the way, I used to work in VA state govt. and after interviewing someone with limited credentials and an utterly crappy writing test, the mgt. was quick to collect all copies of her writing test!!... all the better to hide raw evidence of overt nepotism and partisanship in a "non-partisan" agency! That candidate was WELL-connected. Her GOP father was the manager of the Director's son at another VA state agency! (This was not under Kaine--it was under the Legis. branch.) My, she was sitting pretty!! She seriously was about 10X less qualified than others we interviewed who had no connections! She also was a total GOP-slanted bitch, but I digress!... :-)
....So much for my years as an idealist public servant!

Government has become synonymous with Corruption--yet another Bush legacy!
  • Mark in Florida · 10 months ago
What? He should have gone into the family biz of selling crack like mama.

    Cheap.Trailer. Trash.

...and yes, I am an elitist so I can say that with confidence.

I Heart the Palin's.... They have made crazy a spectator sport.
  • KenStarr · 10 months ago
Palin has a son-in-law? When did that happen?
  • Anonymous · 10 months ago
John, you have to agree that this fine young man is doing what he can to provide for his son (other than marrying his baby mama, of course).

Given Gov. Palin's expensive tastes, young Levi Johnston certainly will have to work his ass off to make the child support payments.

And to think that 50,000,000 adult American citizens thought Gov. Palin should be first in line to the Presidency.

There's a big difference between a park position or tollway clerk and a position in the trades. For one thing, the union usually either operates or heavily controls the apprentice process, and they usually don't go much for political influence, as they can't afford to have an idiot in their ranks - the work is too dangerous. Also, I can't see them playing ball with a GOP politician, except for the fact that the First Dude is a union brother.

But I just heard that he's been given the heave-ho anyway.

levi's placement does not mean palin pulled some strings; it is just as easy to assume that some paths were created in order to get closer to palin, or even a kudos for the run at v.p. regardless, i hope i have the same fortune when it comes time for a new liver.
