Here. I'm gonna copy a post i made at this insidious MB full of crazed right wingers. I found something in a FOX news article that one of them posted, rather curious...
Jailed Obama Fundraiser Spills the Beans: Tony Rezko helped launch Barack Obama's political career. But the secrets he might be telling federal prosecutors could send the careers of politicians crashing and burning.
Oh look the GOP propaganda mouthpiece has an exclusive designed to make obama look bad a few weeks before the election.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED!!! I tell you!
But based on the known facts, charges so far and testimony at Rezko's trial, there's no indication there'll be an October surprise that could hurt the Democratic presidential nominee -- [stand]even though Rezko says prosecutors are pressing him for dirt about Obama.[/stand]
Now that to me was the real revelation there. After the whole US attorney scandal and the politicization of the Justice Dept, we now learn that Federal prosecutors are specifically trying to get him to spill dirt on Obama. Sort of like how in '06 they were pressing hard for any dirt on Democrats to hurt them in the midterms and even fired US attorneys who wouldn't play ball or didn't find any, at least on the Democratic side.

It'll be interesting if this story gets any traction because this sure sounds like the US attorney scandal all over again.

John,

I wasn't surprised to see the Parade magazine article here, but I certainly expected it to be in a different light. When I read the headline, "How much would you pay in taxes?", and then I glanced down the columns, it looked like almost everyone pays MORE with Obama. I had to read the very fine print at the top of the columns to see that these were the dollars we would SAVE, not PAY.

The second portion says, "if you were among the top 5% of voters..."
Again, it is misleading, because the Obama column is "how much you pay" but the McCain column is "how much you save".

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought it was a pretty fishy way to present what is definitely good news about Obama's plan, but does it in such a way that the casual reader would get quite the opposite message.

My spouse agrees with you on reading the fine print. But she said, if you read whole Parade mag this week, when you finish, you'll want to vote for Obama. She was very pleasantly surprised.

In the meantime, Bush and Cheney are at Ft. Knox divying up the gold bars. Cheney is in charge: "That's one for you and two for me."
• unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
Hopefully, it is 'steel bars' that are in their future.
• hawkseye · 1 year ago
I am visualizing that as a temporary measure. Then the gallows for all the murderers.

When I lived in Switzerland, I earned Swiss Francs. I was there long enough to be an expat at that time. Every year, the government sent me a POSTCARD. It showed my gross earnings. It showed 12% of those earnings. It showed that I owed that 12%. On a postcard. I went down to the PTT (post office) and they figured out my small rebate. As a foreigner, I had to have payroll deductions taken and there was always a small refund. Over and out. It was a very fair flat tax. People who made more, paid more. Fair, simple, balanced. No H+R Block monkeyshines with fifty forms attached. The rich paid their fair share. The poor paid their fair share. Got it? Fair. Simple. Clean. But America is the greatest country in the world because the CEO of Exxon paid shit in taxes.

Parade is the largest, most widely read magazine in the U.S. So this is good -- if people actually read the column headings...

As for jokes, my favorite one so far is, "What's the difference between a stock broker and a large pizza? A large pizza can still feed a family of four."

Every time I see an Obama surrogate on TV nowadays, they are well versed in their topics, know the facts, know how to hit the McCaniac being put agianst them, and are just generally kicking ass and taking names. I feel so damned good about this. If Obama can run his White House anywhere near this good, America is ready for that new day his logo promotes.
• anokie · 1 year ago
I've been told that Parade mag is a conservative rag. Correct me if I'm wrong. But that is awesome that they are writing positive things about Obama's plan.

Isn't it just a little entertainment magazine that comes in the Sunday paper? I don't know that it's v. political - at least the one that I get on Sundays. Maybe they have different things.
• gumbygirl · 1 year ago
With millions of readers, especially hockey-mom types. Trust me, this story is a very good thing.
• iWoman · 1 year ago
Yeah, I was just saying I didn't think it leaned one way or another, because it doesn't cover a lot of politics.
• gumbygirl · 1 year ago
I think the person who owns it donates heavily to the righties.

I get the general idea of how tax cuts should help stimulate the economy but it was a theory, and the last eight years prove it doesn't work, IMHO. The rich have gotten fabulously rich and the middle class got screwed. Wealth didn't "trickle" down it stayed at the top.

Unless I am wrong, I heard the Obama tax table isn't new. It rolls taxable income back to where it was under Clinton and before Bush.
• AdmNaismith · 1 year ago
Of course, wealth never 'trickles-down'; the wealthy keep it for themselves ('I didn't get rich writing a bunch of checks!').
The only thing that trickles-down is the misery, in what feels like pure spite.

In Topeka, you'll also be making less for the same job than in NYC.

Large corporations in SF Bay Area have to pay extra because living expenses are high.
• beltman713 · 1 year ago
I don't know where you live, but where I live people wouldn't call it meaningless to make 60,000 to 112,000 dollars a year.
• gotit2 · 1 year ago
I'm shocked that this Parade article shows that Obama's tax plan gives such a big break to the wealthy earning more than 2.87 million. Obama's giving them twice what McCain's plan does, over half a million! So why's Obama helping the rich so much, when he claims to be for middle America!!!! Anybody know what's up with that????
• Texmandie · 1 year ago
Look closer: if you make between 112,000 and 227,000, your tax break under Obama would be lower than under McCain. If you make MORE than 227,000, the chart shows how much MORE in tax you would pay under Obama's plan than currently. Those lucky enough to earn more than $2.87 million would pay over $500,000/year MORE in taxes, as opposed to getting nearly $300,000 in tax breaks from McCain.

Quite fair.
• SoLeftImRight · 1 year ago
I live in NYC. I pay more in taxes than is decent (when you throw in the state and city), and I pay more to live in a smaller space than anywhere else in the country. Cost of living has nothing to do with tax policy. That is a ludicrous concept. Of course my salary is higher than it would be for the same job in Charlotte or Atlana or Denver. The cost of living is higher, the taxes are higher, and I am paid more. But that's the whole point, and I get to make my decision on relative tax rates and salaries available, and whatever other factors personally matter to you...like, maybe you'd like to have a yard and pay less than $1 million for a studio (not that I own anything, jeez!). I'm voting for Obama because eight years of lying, international disgrace and Constitutional shredding must end.
