Yes, this seems on the surface to be a gain in civil rights for us. Yes this is good for educated and fair minded citizens. The problem is, however, the white trash bible thumping Dubbya-McCain loving racists populating the red states will carry this ruling as a banner in November. Timing is everything. I wish to hell this ruling had come after the election.
Once again they will throw the fags under the bus. They always do. And we are fucking sissies. We should take to the streets as we did in the seventies. It should be ugly and bloody. What a shame that most of my younger gay brothers are too busy tweaking down from their meth on the circuit.
I am tired of waiting all my life for basic human rights. This election could delay those another eight years if these cases always pop up during election years.

Ms. Pelosi? How about starting the impeachment hearings. Put these rat bastards in jail where they belong. Don't let them slip off into the night. Start with Rove, Delay, Powell, Meirs, Gonzalez. Surely you haven't forgotten their names, you remember the people who told America to go F**k Ourselves.

Wow! This is great news! Now the Democratic Party and its candidate Obama/Hillary are locked into a position of supporting gay marriage, and now it is a major issue of the campaign.. This will mean that, as in 2004, a significant part of the Latino vote, being conservative and Catholic on this question, will go to the Republicans, while the white working class and rural vote, being also conservative on this, will definitely not go for Obama, whom they distrust and dislike in any case, or even Hillary. Every poll taken indicates vast majorities against gay marriage, particularly in those sectors the Democrats need to win in the fall
So, now we can look forward to a fairly easy McCain victory, that might just reach 1972 proportions. In addition, we can be certain that the California voters will overturn this decision in November, unless it can be kept off the ballot, which will of course engender more controversy, keeping the issue on the front pages, and further assuring a Republican victory. Heck, since Pelosi is so celebratory, we might just see a Republican Congress as well. Thank you California Supreme Court! Thank you! What a great day!

So...
We let the bigots dictate our agenda, let them decide what issues we will and will not allow into the discussion, what we will or won't support?

This is absolutely great news... but still politicians can't say "gay" even though their press release is about Gay Marriage. :)

It is true that whenever blue states give more rights to their gay communities, the evangelicals in red states take it out on their gay communities. Holy whore, Sally Kern, is rearing her bigoted head once again over gay agenda special rights. If marriage equality is real and permanent in California, then the resulting gay bashing in Texas is worth it. If the rug is going to be pulled out from under gay marrying couples again by a California constitutional amendment, then it is not worth the trouble it causes in the rest of the country.

What happened to the conservative "value" of states rights (not to mention their bloviating declarations for small government)?

I am so happy today. All of my already married gay and lesbian friends will now be recognized as married, as well as moving ahead with full marriage rights and ceremonies for others in this state. We still have a ballot battle to overcome, but this is a huge day in California. Almost like what happened in Mass a few years back.
Again, I am so damn happy for my fiends today. I am proud to live in California today. And my wife's friend can move to California soon and still be married. AWESOME!
So happy.

I think gays should get married. It's only fair they should suffer like the rest of us.
Can a ballot initiative be passed that amends the state constitution in a way that is unconstitutional? Or would the state supreme court throw it out??
Colorado passed the notorious Amendment 2 (lots of redneck idiots in this state) but it got thrown out as federally unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court.
Gale Norton, the Repuke bitch who ripped off the Indians while she was Chimpy's Interior Secretary, was Colorado Attorney General at the time. She insisted on fighting it all the way up to the Supremes and wasted $4 million of our taxpayer money on it. That bitch can rot in hell.

We don't lose elections because gay people get much needed and overdue rights or because Republican's fire up their bigoted base. We lose elections because pussies like Viceroy and BQID and millions of their ball-less Chicken Little friends run around like bitches screaming, "THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING!" and complaining about when is the right and wrong time for oppressed minorities to be granted fairness, equality and civil/human rights.
We lose elections because people like Viceroy repeat REPUBLICAN TALKING POINTS. We lose because the Democratic Party, when given EVERY BENEFIT to win an election can't campaign their way out of a wet paper bag because they continue to do the same old INEFFECTIVE things the same old INEFFECTIVE way and then wonder why they're not winning. We lost because we had a candidate and a Party that COULDN'T EVEN FIGHT BACK AGAINST A RIDICULOUS SWIFT BOAT ATTACK or a "I INVENTED THE INTERNET" non-issue and will probably be COMPLETELY inept in fighting FLAG LAPEL PIN GATE. Then when they FUCK UP yet another election and don't have the honor and courage to accept the blame, what do they do, BLAME GAY MARRIAGE AND THE GAY COMMUNITY when A NUMBER OF COMMISSIONED STUDIES proved that the claim was CATEGORICALLY FALSE! But that doesn't stop Democratic IDIOTS, gay and straight, from parroting the meme.
Let me ask some of you brilliant campaign strategists this SIMPLE little question. What effect did gay rights and gay marriage have on the 2000 election? You know, the one where we had a FULLY EMPLOYED, PRODUCTIVE, PEACEFUL, ECONOMIC SURPLUS and were going up against the village idiot of Texas? How EXACTLY did we queers fuck THAT one up?
The answer? WE DIDN'T and we didn't lose the 2004 election either. The same good for nothing Washington "specialists" that lost 2000 for us lost 2004 for us.
And don't give me any of that "but we actually should have won in 2000" shit! Shoulda, coulda, woulda. WE LOST because it should have NEVER been close enough to steal!
As you can see, this shit pisses me the hell off.
Not this time boys and girls.
Not THIS fuckin time!
I suggest that if you want to win in November you direct you anger and frustration where it belongs; Inept campaign gurus.
I have faith that Obama won't let these idiots fuck up his campaign.
Thank God!

I feel very confident that more Americans are fed up, young/old, gay/straight, black/white/yellow/brown are FED UP and fired up to fight back and win.

TampaZeke: Sounds like whistling in the dark to me.
You lose elections not because of some kind of campaign voodoo by the Republicans, or incompetence by the Democrats, but because you keep nominating people out-of-touch with the values and weltanscauung of the majority of American people. You did it in 2000, you did it in 2004, and now you are set to do it in 2008. You are simply mistaken if you think it is about method and not substance. Most Americans are not relativists in their values. The Democratic Party is dominated by grievance groups: feminists, gay activists, civil rights elite, fatcat union leaders, ethnic activists, and their (usually elite) sympathizers in academia, hollywood, and the courts. That waitress that Hillary keeps talking about and the majority of Americans just don't buy their agenda, period. That may be the Republican talking points, but let me point out that Democrats have won as they have become more socially radical since 1968(!) exactly three presidential elections out of ten (and then with supposed centerists), despite being supposedly for most of that period the majority party. Despite a massively unpopular war (and what long war hasn't been unpopular in American history, you can go back and look at polls in 1944, and find a small majoritiy dissatisfied with its conduct, not to mention the American War of Independence, the Civil War, Korea, and Viet Nam), etc., the Democrats just barely managed to get Congress back in 2006. The American people absoulutely want change, and if the Democrats actually nominated a candidate who represents anything like the majority values on a platform that represents anything like the majority values, they would be in in a landslide. It may be Republican talking points, but they are correct, as history has shown and as the immediate future is likely to substantiate. Bottom line: the vast majority of Americans oppose gay marriage, and any candidate that supports gay marriage is going to lose thanks to the California Supreme Court making it a major issue again.

Thanks for your advice ViceRove. I'll file it away with that other Rove who always has our best interest at heart when he gives us his little pearls of wisdom.
Lets look back for just one moment, in light of the brilliance of ViceRove's observation. In HINDSIGHT, WHO do YOU think is MOST out of touch with American values: BUSH or GORE and KERRY? Go ahead ViceRove, since your so up on what the American people think, run THAT poll and see what results you get back.
My original point was that IF we lose this election it won't be because of the REPUBLICAN California Supreme Court or the concurrance of the REPUBLICAN Governor or because of gay marriage. We will lose it, as we've done in the past, because we allowed the Republicans get away with distraction politics and smear campaigns and because our political machine was completely broken. POLLS show that Americans side with DEMOCRATS on EVERY major political issue, INCLUDING CIVIL UNIONS! You may not like that but that's a fact. As far as Obama losing because this ruling somehow means the HE supports gay marriage, how the hell did you come to this conclusion? He doesn't support gay marriage and has said so MANY times, including today. He supports, as does the MAJORITY of Americans, civil unions. So I don't know how you'll spin that to your benefit, but I'm sure you'll try to find a way by hook or by crook just as Republicans ALWAYS do.
Not this time!
The Amendment is going down.
Obama's going to the White House and scores of new Democratic Representatives and Senators are going with him to Washington DC.
November will be you worst nightmare.
Instead of coming here to advise Democrats you should do some advising your own damned Party which hasn't been able to win a seat as dog catcher in the MOST RED districts in the country.
Way to go in my home district in Mississippi on Tuesday by the way! It doesn't get much REDDER than that!!!
Bwaaaaaahahaha!
