AMERICAblog: Philly conservative talk show host backs Obama

Here in our little town in Oregon, we often refer to people with their heads up their own asses as having severe "ring around the collar". I think I could hear Michael Smerconish's head getting popped free while I read this post. Try to keep it out!

This is a bigger deal than a Powell endorsement; Smerc the Smirk has a huge audience.

And he subs on O'Reilly's radio show. Billo must be furious.

    Good Grief!
    Oy Vey!
    WTF!
    Good Lord!
(Guess you can tell I'm amazed!)

I'm sick and tired of these Rethug turn-coats. So they finally get it! Woohoo! Too little, too late. They're just as much to blame for this mess as the rest - the ones who haven't jumped ship yet. Rethug turncoats are still just dumb Rethugs in sheep's clothing, until January. Then the claws come back out, with caveats of moderation attached. Nice try, Dollies.

They might be late, but they're getting the point. Get on the band wagon of common sense.

I guess Smerconish wants to see how it feels to become the focus of the GOP smear machine. They save their worst for conservatives who demonstrate independence. I am waiting for the filth the right wing will spew when General Powell endorses Obama.

This is actually excellent news. Smerconish has a hefty audience and they aren't all wingnuts. Smerconish actually tries to use logic, and reality-based thinking finally won out.
This will definitely get some extra Obama votes in PA.

While its not a stretch for the Chicago Tribune to endorse a 'favorite son', it has been a while since they ebdorsed a Democratic candidate. This is good news.

Not a mention of this by David Gregory on Race for the White House, a show that "Smerc" has often been a guest on.
I stopped watching RFTWH because of Gregory's obvious bias, but tonight I tuned in just to hear this.

Heard a lot about Bill Ayers, but zero about this endorsement.

If you paid attention to his comments over the past couple of weeks (you'd have had to sit through Gregory's trash), you'd have seen that he's been dangling by a thread.

I'm really not surprised by this.

In the early days of the show, and before I really knew about Smerconish's views, I DID get a sense that he liked Obama.
He didn't sound like the typical Republican.

This isn't a surprise, but it is a big story nonetheless. Here's a moderate conservative talk show guy, but he's taking a big career risk in backing Obama. I've listened to him a little hear and there over the years (since I live in the Philly area) and he's one of the few Republican talkers you could tolorate even if you didn't agree with him. But you could see his support of Obama coming from a mile away while watching Race For The White House.
