Using rethuglican neo-math, I calculate 2 billion people

Since the major cable new stations are not covering this event like they do for the teabaggers, will the outcome of what the march was intended to do be met?

It's the LGBT National Equality March.

So do we have any semi-official estimates of the crowd? And I'm not surprised at the lower level of media coverage. . .everyone knows that only right-wing organizations get substantial airplay on the cable channels, even if they represent a small percentage of the American population.
And since the teabagger mini-rally was sponsored by a major cable "news" network, that meant ALL the news networks had to converge with massive coverage - even though by definition, a political demonstration sponsored directly by an alleged mainstream "news" organization shouldn't have warranted any coverage at all.

Looks like alot people showed up! Great! I'm on the West Coast and wish I could have been there. Any estimates on the size of the crowd?

Please tell me there were more gay people than thiose stupid Teabaggers...
  • intoxination · 2 months ago
How many showed up? I would say it looks like about 10-12 million if we go by teabagger math. :D

AOL just posted an article saying the American Family Association is leading a boycott of Pepsi Cola because of their pro-gay policies. Guess I'd better go buy a bunch of Pepsis!

Pro gay policy? The American Family Association wants corporations to be punitive and discriminate? Do they want the logo to change to a Wyoming link fence? That is disgusting.

    per Towleroad...

"As far as the attendance of the March goes, the police gave us a number of between 200,000 and 250,000. The turn-out of young people was spectacular and inspiring."

    of course, someone else says..

"The crowd was no bigger than 25,000. It doesn't help when WE lie and try to make the March appear more successful. The crowd never filled the West Lawn. The West Lawn holds 50,000 - without stages and secure zones."

I would guess that 25,000 was about right. There just weren't that many people there. Nothing like previous marches. Maybe if the organizing had started earlier, like a year in advance, we would've had more people/organizations show.

MENY made the biggest impact for show... They had 7 (or 9?) groups marching, each one wearing shirts with a different color of the rainbow, along with matching umbrellas, and marching right behind one another. Sooo cool.

Looking at the pictures, I am reminded of an ancient song by Sly and the Family Stone (Duh, I think). The Song had a refrain "WE ARE EVERY DAY PEOPLE". When you see the diversity of the crowd, it makes me even more proud to be gay. Sometimes the gay subculture tries to convince us that being gay means you are eternally 25, have bulging muscles and the body and face to die for (e.g., Rusty Joiner, West Hollywood bartender and one of the top male models of 2009 - try google). So it does my old heart good to see people that look like America. Perhaps that is what America needs to see, NOT because I think gay people need to conform to some straight image of propriety, but instead just to show the reality that we are everywhere, and we are every day people!

The rest of you guys can conjecture how many people were there - I'm more into the visceral effect of the pictures. I felt such love for everyone in the pictures, but then I can be a maudlin old coot at times.

It was a beautiful day in central Maine, perfect for canvassing.
