AMERICAblog: Polls suggest Palin's star is fading; but don't forget, she did wonders for our base too

  • jebauer · 1 year ago
She's looking more and more ridiculous as the economy tanks.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
Jesus, that's way too much math for me!
  • dacnova · 1 year ago
Don't focus on the math. I'm a web developer and can confirm just glancing at the graphics, these are impressive numbers. Huge spikes in web traffic are a certain sign of interest and these numbers and hugely impressive.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
It is interesting, working online, trying to reverse engineer reader interest, and interests, by traffic. We only correspond with a select number of readers every day, either in the comments,or via email. And even them, we don't really know how representative they are of the majority of our readers. So traffic swings are interesting tea leaves to read.

yep, we're pissed. I'd sworn off the internet til the end of school (I'm a nursing student) and this got me back on and I even started a blog, though I haven't posted on it since a day or two after her nomination. McCain really got under some people's skin with this one. I know it's sexist but if she isn't the archetypal bimbo I don't know who is. I have more respect for hookers, at least they are honest about what they are selling.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
If anything... I'd say mcsame's pick of palin for VP is VERY sexist.

it assumes picking a woman will draw women voters... which, in turn, assumes women are stupid.

I'd be pissed if I was a woman... I think the choice in and of itself was degrading to women.
  • jebauer · 1 year ago
As a woman I can say yes, I was EXTREMELY insulted. It was like oh, Obama didn't pick Hillary, here's another human with ovaries. Sorry boys, not the same species. I believe I heard something about a baracuda or pit bull or something...
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
That's exactly what the infamous Rude Pundit argues today.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    agreed.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
not only that, but think of all the women out there (like a certain former Mrs. McCain) who, after years or decades of hard work, have been discarded for a newer more attractive model. Did McCain really mean to push that button in the subconcious of american women? I think alot of women are peeved about this. McCain just nominated a blow-up doll for veep...who cares as long as she's got holes in all the right places.

The slide has started, as in landslide.....Obama/Biden

I posted this below, but I think this is a better thread for it.
Someone who knows how to gamble the odds, please explain this to me.

It is US betting odds format. Basically, -160 number means that in order to make 100 dollars, you need to bet 160. The +120 means that you will win $120 dollars if you bet $100. The long ang the short is that negative odds are how much you bet to make $100, postive odds are how much you get FROM betting $100. In this case, the odds are saying that Obama is the better bet.

OT but interesting and related to Palin - discussed over at Huff in an article by RFK Jr:

"...Fascist writer Westbrook Pegler, an avowed racist who Sarah Palin approvingly quoted in her acceptance speech for the moral superiority of small town values, expressed his fervent hope about my father, Robert F. Kennedy, as he contemplated his own run for the presidency in 1965, that "some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies.""

I think it would be a good idea to find out why a quote by an avowed racist, hoping that someone would assassinate RFK, was included in the Palin acceptance speech. What was the purpose? Why was it there? Why hasn't the Press brought this out? Someone needs to ask Palin:

"Why did you use a quote by an avowed racist that referenced the hopes of an assassination against a democratic nominee? What was your point? What kind of filth is this?"
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Matt Scully, the ventriloquist who put words in the dummy's mouth, quoted Pegler indirectly from an autobiography by...Pat Buchanan! Buchanan waxed nostalgically about his father's admiration for Commie-hater, McCarthy-lover, and New Deal-hater Pegler. The quote about small town "folk" was from Buchanan. It's not like Scully even knew or read Pegler at first hand.

Thanks Karen - I was cueing off JFK Jr.'s article - who seem to think otherwise - sounds like it was something he too overlooked.

Do your counts include RSS feeds? I do my blog reading through Google's RSS reader and don't often click through to the blog's real site. Just curious.

OT... DOW is 10,917 and falling (-503.99 points for the day).

so... mr. mcsame... how's that great economy of yours doing?
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Before Bush spoke at 11AM, the Dow was only down 200 points or so...merely hanging around the White House (instead of riding his bike in Crawford) and speaking about the crisis caused the Dow to drop another 300 points.

    Ha!

Yes, I agree that Palin has energized our base, too. But, I would take Kos' poll with a grain of salt. Unless this is confirmed by other polls. Kos is such a partisan, that it's almost as if Rush had a poll.

David Espo of AP wrote this about Palin's agenda if she gets into the White House....It just has the patina of a beauty queen's answer, smacking lips and eyes rolling to the back of her head in deep thought while placing her hand on a cocked hip: http://news.aol.com/elections/article/palin-spe...
  • Demo_Dave · 1 year ago
The race is close everybody needs to get their friends to register and to vote. We need to focus on John McCain and forget Sara Palin...John Mccain said he could reach across party lines and then when he reached for a VP he reached as far left as possible.. He knew we would talk about her and leave him alone. Part two is starting she is trying to get people talk about how Hillary was dissed (and she was) so that will be the discussion for the next week. If we keep playing in to their hands they will keep off the economy forever. For get about Sara go after McCain. Register friends take a friend to the polls .
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
Good, i'm glad her star is fading... pollingreport.com still shows mccain ahead in 4 out of 10 polls. 3 are dead heats, and 3 show obama ahead. That worries me.
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
Any polling done specifically on the Independent voters?

My fantasy is that McCain blew the Independent vote with the Palin pick.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
maybe he blew a good chunk of the GOP vote too. see above.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
this has people scratching their heads. wtf is going on in the repub party?

I'm glad the star is fading, but polingreport.com still has mccain ahead in 4 out of 10 polls, with obama ahead in 3, and 3 which are dead heat ties. That worries me.

I always read Americablog, but I've started coming here more frequently since Palin's been announced. It seems as if John has become fired-up; so, this blog has been fun to read lately.

With Bush elected twice despite his obvious being unqualified, the Palin pick I think we have to recognize something painful. Our system of electing a President is fatally flawed and needs to be changed.

If you disagree, then what would it take besides a Palin nomination and election of a George W. Bush to convince you?

Capacity to Change is the strong suit of America. Its time to do just that with our Presidential election system.
