AMERICAblog: Popular Mechanics: Obama is right about tire gauges

What the republicans are best at is scorning. Never mind if they know anything. The scoffed at Gore when he spoke of global warming. They smugly displayed their purple heart band aids at the 2004 republican convention to make fun of Kerry's military medals.

And what they are really expert at is inventing their own reality.
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
It is a very sad commentary that some or many voters still fall for Republican distortions. Fool me once, twice, and now three times?????

WANT MORE PAIN ????????? VOTE Mc CAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
  • DAB · 1 year ago
This is a very true statement. Republicans win, or at least energize their base and sow doubt in the minds of swing voters, by using scorn and ridicule. It seems to work well for them. Democrats tend to campaign against Republicans with "they're dangerous" -- which some voters merely see as the flipside of "bold and confident" -- whereas as Republicans campaign against Democrats with "they're ridiculous" -- which wouldn't seem to have a positive flipside.

The truth is, it's the Republican positions that are ridiculous (drilling will lower the price of oil? hello?), as comedians like Stewart, Colbert, and Maher point out all the time. By saying Obama is unserious about the energy problem, they're using that Rove tactic of ascribing their weakness to their opponent. (as if it was John Kerry who was the draft dodger, for example). But, as those same comedians show, humor, ridicule and satire -- these are all tools very much in the progressive movement's wheelhouse. We need to reclaim them as tools in our campaigns, as well, not just in our commentary.

Why should McCain worry about tire pressure when he can cruise around in his private jet piloted by Cindy Miss Buffalo Chip.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
McTiregauge is a total sack of shit. This crap, and all the rest.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Well, I plan to step it up a notch. That how we do things in Louisiana. From here on out to the election. I would hope the Obama campaign and the rest of you do. LET'S KEEP THE ENERGY LEVEL UP!!!
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
    IT'S ON NOW!!
  • Grimmlok · 1 year ago
    Oh for gods sake.

Why does McSame still have this on his website?

Because he and his campaign know that the Dems will naever make an issue of it, or if they do it will not be loud or forceful enough.

it doesn't matter if McSame had "Omaba eats live babies" on his website. Nobody on the Dem side would raise a fuss, and people are too stupid to actually do any research themselves. They'd just be gobbling to each other across the clothesline that "Obama eats babies!" the next day.

    Get it TOGETHER, Dems!
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Apparently McSame was not around in the seventies oil crisis. Or he is so senile he does not remember it...we used tire gauges then and it is a MAJOR way to save fuel and save tire wear. There are tons of other little tricks to save on fuel. I've been using them, mostly, since 1974.

And much more seriously...go rent the documentary "Crude Awakening". Sure it's a leftist view but there are many fine scientists in the flick who are saying that we are now at peak oil. And we just don't wanna face it as a culture. I will get around just fine on my Ebike and the Dallas light rail but I may not have any food, or medicine, or clothing, because there will be no oil left to run truck freight. The clock is ticking down fast and our little oil party keeps going like there is no tomorrow.

If American idiot voters allow the GOP to run the show another 8 years, with their oil golfing buddies making obscene profits, you had better fucking well plan to turn your property into an efficient garden. Otherwise you will not have food. And while you are at it, add some herbs because there will be no medicines. Oh and I would go to Walmart right now and get some guns. As well as strong fencing for that garden. A whole lotta spoiled princesses and princes are gonna try to get your food. The same assholes who still love Bush and McSame. Packets of seeds will be selling for $50 a packet.
  • Happy_Housewife · 1 year ago
They're trying to do the same thing they did to Carter with his efforts at energy conservation. They have the mentality of a bunch of ten year old boys. Except on ten year old boys, it's sort of cute.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
YEAH, IT GETS YOU DOWN, BUT I AIN'T GOING DOWN WITHOUT FIGHTING LIKE A DOG IN THE STREET TO THE VERY END. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, I WILL FIGHT TO THE END AND I THINK IT WILL BE FINE.
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
Once again the McCain campaign has resorted to stupidity and distortions of the truth to continue their campaign of sleaze. What else do they have to try and sell more years of Bush/Cheney pain?

WANT MORE PAIN ????????? VOTE McCain !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
This is what worries me about the Obama campaign. For all its savvy, it still doesn't seem to understand how the Republicans play on human nature.

    And then, there's the MSM!
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Please don't attribute the stupidity and shallowness of Americans to all humans. Thank you.

JOHN: Matt "Hooker" Sanchez has an op-ed at worldnutdaily you must see. He rails against the repeal of DADT, not surprisingly, but reaches new lows in doing so. He wonders: "Would homosexuality be marked somewhere in the Marine's SRB (Service Record Book), or is a pink triangle in Marine's medical file more appropriate?"

  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Matt Sanchez...aka Rod Majors in gay porn...his video clips are ranked highest and most watched on Xtube and Pornotube dot coms. She's a big old fag, kids. You don't fuck like that, with that kind of power and skill, unless you are fully homah-seck-shul. This girl is a fucking mess and needs a good gay shrink to get her outta her fucking Ann Coulter closet. Total fag, kids. Totally homo. Grow up, come out, and live a happy life. You are a laughing stock. Unless of course you are fucking Karl Rove @ $500 an hour.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Hey fundie wingnuts, when is that rapture thing. Shouldn't it happen about now? Any second?
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Not only that -- the effects of properly inflating your tires would be immediate, not five years from now, and it costs nothing or next to nothing. The cost of offshore drilling is quite high. So, inflating your tires is far more energy-efficient that offshore drilling.

Unfortunately, most Americans are as stupid as John McStain.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
WHEN IS YOUR FUCKING RAPTURE YOU FUCKING MORONS!!!
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Uh, it feels like talking them off a cliff because they probably have some nukes by now after infiltrating. LOL What can you do about such insanity.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Would you stop talking about tire inflation. It's mindless and what they want you to do.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Alex Jones totally discredits himself about not speaking to how the NWO is using idiot christian zionists like Hagee to propagate their agenda. At least he's gotten off the "sinister gay angle" since I've been commenting. Yeah, I have no doubt there are some sinister sorta of weirdo Larry Craigs from that generation or something in the NWO agenda but don't disparage most gays who are against that sort of thing. We've always been the least likely to go along with that sort of thing that's why we've always been the first persecuted in any totalitarianism. And Alex Jones will not take that away from us.

I'm selling McCain Campaign fake Arrow Through Head caps with a nice threadbare 'Maverick' tote bag...

I tuned into MSTIM's Highball last night around 7:19pm...A little after 7:20, admitted plagiarist Mike Barnacle made an angry reference saying:

"These nitwits at their computers who blog all day long..."

Is Mike angry because so many bloggers write original material?
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
From the catholic church, nazis, cuba to now, we ordinary gays have never been too inclined to go along with their orthodoxy. And we have always paid the price. I wish larry craig the best, though after his recent vote. just sayin'...
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Just "mulling." I don't think I can help thinking about it all weekend long in the rain here. Supposed to rain for about a week...
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
And the gasoline stations are discouraging proper inflation as it now cost 50 cents per tire to use the air to fill your tires. The air pumps are of course, self serve and you can't fill more than one tire before it shuts off and demands another 50 cents. They want you to waste gasoline on underinflated tires. McCain's attack is not a mistake, error or something innocent like that. The oil companies are deliberately discouraging us from keeping the tires properly inflated so that you waste more gasoline. And, of course, McCain is part of this crooked cabel as was Bush.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
My mechanic has said all along that properly inflated tires help gas milage. That's not a joke, it's a fact. The amazing thing is that McCain and his Republican allies didn't know that. It's a common place fact among them that actually maintain their own cars. Oh, maybe that's the problem . . . Obama was sandbagged by an elite who hire out their maintenance work. I get it now.
  • Forty2 · 1 year ago
Any idiot knows that Obama was right, along with Schwarznegger and Crist and all the others.

Problem is, the Obama's-energy-plan device that I bought yesterday is in serious disagreement with the similar device on my portable compressor that I keep in the trunk for this very thing. I have a feeling that nearly all consumer-grade pressure gauges are seriously off and there's no sane means of calibration or even checking.
  • donotmakemecomedownthere · 1 year ago
Imagine how many idiot GOP lemmings have forked-over 25 bucks for that lousy 39-cent pressure gauge. These fools deserve to be separated from their money.
  • barts · 1 year ago
    John,
It's not about who's right or wrong. It's about who casts the first punch. Republicans know nothing about energy conservation or how to run a country, but they sure know how to ruin, I mean run, a good campaign.

If you think of high school as a microcosm of our county, who usually became class president? Was it the brainy nerd in the corner or the loud-mouth football captain who had the hottest dates? (No disrespect at all of you HS football captains...) So it's not enough that McSame is wrong on facts, he's just loud, offensive, and has a "hot" chick on his side.

College is not a microcosm of the US, because the US is just not that well-educated.
  • barts · 1 year ago
    Genius,
The faulty pressure guages were designed to sabbotage Ob's energy plan.
  • JMOHR · 1 year ago
Beautiful comment, full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. Another wonk argument. It is not going to sway the ignorant electorate; it will not counter the unrebutted character assassination of Obama as a rock star; and it will not w\in the election.

We need to define McCain. Obama is looking just as weak as every other Democratic front runner. Negative ads do work even when they are false. McCain is being a free pass by the press. AP is in the pocket, CBS actually re-engineers Q&A to cover his mistakes and the rest of the MSM is in corporate pocket. There are valid issues concerning his ties to big business, flip-flops (pandering to the right) and mental acuity. These take negative ads. However, neither we nor the press are hitting them.

Do you know how pathetic the victory over a tire pressure gage sounds while Obama loses ground and the Republicans keep hitting and defining him as irrelevant. Only Paris Hilton seems to get the idea as to what needs to be done.

Obama will lose and I will become a Republican. The Democrats just seem to be bent on proving that they are a worthless, gutless party unwilling to fight for what they believe in. I may as well try to change the Republicans from the inside because even with control of the Congress, the democrats will lose the presidency and fail to effectively legislate.
  • JMOHR · 1 year ago
One more comment: The majority of the American people now believe that drilling is appropriate and will reduce gas prices within a year. But our candidate will note hit back with a biting ad showing that it will take ten years and a clip of McCain saying that he knows that the drilling would only provide a psychological benefit. Oh yes, that would be too rough. Screw the Democrat Party. The party of wimps.
  • slappymagoo · 1 year ago
Why oh why do Mechanics hate America?

The Nail-McCain ad I'd like to see.

The Republicans mocked Jimmy Carter for warning us about an upcoming energy crisis. Carter was right. Republicans were wrong.

The Republicans laughed at Al Gore's warning about global warning. Gore was right. Republicans were wrong.

NOW the Republicans are making fun of Obama for saying we'd save as much fuel wuth routine auto maintenance as we would with new offshore drilling. And Obama was right, Republicans are wrong.

    Republicans: Wrong about EVERYTHING.
  • preznit_giv_me_turkee · 1 year ago
face it, if you can afford to shell out $25 for a tire gauge you're either
    1) so rich you don't care about $4+ gas or
    b) too fuckin stupid to know how to use it.
in other words, the Repuke base
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
why didn't John McCain know this? Why didn't he try to find out before he launched into yet another temper tantrum against Obama?

    because he's John F-ing McCain........that's why.
  • BarrieT · 1 year ago
I think they just didn't care about whether it was true or not, they just saw it as easy to ridicule.
  • bejammin075 · 1 year ago
A very important point to add: You can start properly inflating your tires RIGHT NOW.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Didn't I see Mc$ame on TV yesterday afternoon saying that keeping tires properly inflated is a mileage saver? Maybe I dreamed it, or had a nightmare.
  • hardeknox · 1 year ago
Use the pressure on the tire, usually about 35#. Car mfrs post lower numbers to ensure a smooth ride, typically up to 10# less. Rear tires can usually use less as they have less weight on them, and aren't worked as hard steering and braking.
In over a million miles in fifty years, I've never had a tire wear out in the center because it was over-inflated, and usually get more miles use than the tire mfrs advertise.
  • lostmypassword · 1 year ago
I'd love an Obama tire gauge!
Obama is right, McCain is wrong, a tire gauge is a very good reminder of this fact, and helps the environment. Obama should have it for sale // giveaway at his site!

Unfortunately, only smart people read Popular Mechanics. The wingnuts will never know.
  • nothingasitseems · 1 year ago
Glenn Beck, the conservative genius that he is, posted an article on CNN.com today that pretty much kept the mocking McCain banter going. When I read what this idiot writes sometimes, it really makes my head spin... but then I realize that Ann Coulter is still getting published and I realize how retarded some people are to give people like her and Beck an outlet to spew their irrelevant rhetoric. You can go to CNN.com and read the article. It's good for a laugh. And while you read it, remember that last week he devoted an entire article to say that he's not sure if he's going to vote this November.
  • sherifffruitfly · 1 year ago
This is a good pre-game test for the American public. Do they care more about the truth, or do they care more about anti-Democrat snark?
