AMERICAblog: Prop 8 supporters threaten "revolution" if we don't let them inflict their religious beliefs on others

  • anarchy · 1 year ago
    fuck 'em, let them revolt.

I find them plenty revolting as it is!
  • popebuck1 · 1 year ago
    Bring on the religious revolution!

To coin a phrase: Donny and Marie may be on their side, but Oscar Wilde is on mine.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
God is on our side too.... They are the ones sitting in judgement, and if there is a hell, the religious zealots will be the first in line.
  • Mike_in_the_Tundra · 1 year ago
It's certainly their right to do just that, and we have the right to do what we are doing. There's certainly nothing unlawful about protesting and boycotting. The funny part is they are accusing us of terrorizing by trying to frighten and intimidate people. Of course, their threats against the California Supreme Court are the very same thing.

I worry that Obama's focus on appearing non-partisan and taking the high road will result in an inability to approach the far Right the way they need to be approached...as an enemy to all that is good about this Nation. At this point, it is naive to think they have anything but war on their minds no matter how inclusive he tries to be with them.
  • Wesinoregon · 1 year ago
Bring it on. BTW, what will their "target" be? We can hit them in more places than they can.
  • jeffg166 · 1 year ago
The fires burning California to the ground are god's punishment for passing that hateful proposition.

Wonder what percent of home burned to the ground were owned by Prop 8 supporters. An idea you'll never hear from the good "christians".

If the proposition had been voted down you'd be hearing how the fires were god's judgement on the people of California for sure.

being christian gives those that hate a reason for being unchristian, if you believe that being christian makes one more moral in the first place, recent and past history would say otherwise.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
If their rank and file would revolt against their so-called leaders, I'd feel much better about the lot of them.

You know, the same situation where you try to get working people to elect people who will do them some good, not elect people who say to do as they do, because 99.9% of them will never be as rich as those they mistakenly think are working for them, such as the "Joe the Plumber" types.

Anti-human rights advocacy is exactly what Christianism is. They get no hall pass from me. If they want peace, let them become Buddhists.
  • SCLiberal · 1 year ago
    LOL, exactly!
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
I got news for them. They are already revolting.

I've been downloading and reading the briefs, letters, etc. being filed with the CA Supremes re: Prop 8. I haven't gotten through them all yet, but this "Kingdom of Heaven" amicus letter brief is a whopper!

"The issue of this case is gay and lesbians demanding that the State of
California courts strike down the State of California's Constitutional Amendment that
passed by a majority (52%) of voters on November 4, 2008. This amendment is for
wrong purposes of legalizing same-sex marriage. Courts throughout the entire State
of California, the United States of America, as well as world courts DO NOT have
authority to reverse the Almighty Eternal Creator's Law that bans same-sex
    marriage.
The Almighty Eternal Creator's Laws are similar to those established by the
State of California, the United States, and countries throughout the world, but
certain people are banning these laws."

Here, at last, is the definitive answer -- we need to shut up and go away back to our little perverted caves -- for the Almighty Eternal Creator has spoken through his earthly "Heiress." (Read the letter/brief on the CA Supremes website -- http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/supreme/

Fortunately, the highest law of our country is the Constitution, not "God's law." You cannot successfully argue "homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of God" in court. It's a legal issue, not a religious issue (thank God!).
  • Laura-In-CC (fka Doodlebug) · 1 year ago
Ummm, that was sarcasm not support of the position.
  • xscd · 1 year ago
Yes, I know. I agree with you. I should have written "One cannot successfully argue..." instead of "you."

I am just so grateful that here in the U.S., law is ultimately decided against the Constitution of the U.S. (and state constitutions that must not conflict with the U.S. Constitution), which gives us all a measure of protection from religious belief turned into law.
  • kevinbgoode · 1 year ago
Well, perhaps the Supremes will be wise enough to invalidate the marriages of Republicans too. . .and then explain to the dominionists that the equal protection clause requires the state to put them in the same category as the gays. And since Republicans are a minority and not a protected class, let them spend another 70 million bucks trying to campaign to get their own marriage rights back.

Looks like Focus on the Family has got to lay people off. Appears they spent too much on their crusade of hate. Man, this economy is even hurting hate mongers too!

WE NEED SOME HIGH POWERED LAWYER LGBT PEOPLE TO REALLY WORK ON GETTING ANY RELIGIOUS GROUP THAT INTERFERES WITH THE POLITICAL PROCESS, OR PROSTELIZES ABOUT POLITICS TO HAVE THEIR TAX EXEMPT STATUS REMOVED! PERIOD. What they are doing is illegal, and if we did this, THAT WOULD BE THE END OF IT.

We need to infilitrate their churches, take notes, photos, video and nail these people. It will take a coupl of years, but we need to do it. This did not happen overnight. Like terrorist they religious wrong take their time, and are methodical (or maniacle) about their work. We need to be as well. Speak softly and cary a big video cam.

What if Christians and Mormons were the new gays and lesbians?

    Poll--

SHOULD MORMONS AND CHRISTIANS BE PROHIBITED FROM MARRYING?

Many people feel that if Mormons and Christians just lived their own lifestyle without trying to impose their beliefs on society, they might be better accepted. But with the current controversy surrounding their religious beliefs and lifestyle, should Mormons and Christians be prohibited from marrying?

Yes -- Marriage would only indicate society's approval of their hateful and destructive religious lifestyle. Their lifestyle should not be tolerated.

Yes -- They would just indoctrinate their own children with their perverted religious beliefs and then try to indoctrinate our children by inserting their religious beliefs into our schools.

Yes -- Their religious beliefs are unnatural and perverse and ignore the facts of science. Their lifestyle is unhealthy and should not be encouraged.

Yes -- Their religious beliefs are a choice. Therefore they can reject those beliefs and marry a normal non-religious person.

Yes -- They pervert the family unit into a type of religious cult that could spread and undermine the fabric of a normal, healthy society.

Yes -- I have nothing against them, but marriage should only be for people who can raise children in a healthy and sane environment.

Yes -- But they should be allowed to cohabit and have some kind of legally recognized union, just not marriage.

No -- Although they have a disgusting, perverted religious lifestyle, they have rights too and should be allowed to marry.

    Undecided -- Please provide comment.

    :-)

It's sandbox rules in politics. We have to fight the bullies, even if it hurts us, because if we don't the bullies will keep on hammering us. Here's what we do. In every municipality, county or state, we push for property rights. Yes, property rights. That would be an absolute prohibition against religious activity (including proseletization) on private property without advance (24 hrs) written permission by the occupant. This thing will pass almost unanimously, because everyone will think "7th Day Adventists". And it will gore the Elders of Mormon. They'll think twice about interfering with anyone's rights again. Spread the word!

Maybe it's time to use the "50 state" plan on legal action to revoke all of the laws passed since DOMA took effect. Simultaneous court actions in the 30-odd states who have laws on the books (whether statutory or constitutional) to further depreciate the funds available to the religious rabble (i.e., Focus on the Famiily's current problem). Really go after the issue across the board. Here, in Nevada we have such a constitutional "amendment" passed in 2002 which is similarly worded to the CA one. What do you all think? A multi-frontal attack or piecemeal as the issues arise?

What a crock. Why would these people get off their LazyBoy chairs and protest in the street if Prop 8 is overturned? That's a total false threat, red herring, ain't gonna happen. They won't have lost anything worth protesting about.

I understand the desire of same sex couples being desirous of have a equal rights and protection and I as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I as would many others would like to see the same protections for same sex couples as married heterosexual couples.

In California’s 2000 ballot initiative Proposition 22 (or Prop 22) prevented California from recognizing same-sex marriages. I voted for this propositions and it was overwhelmingly adopted by voters on March 7, 2000 with 61.4% approval and 38.6% against. This is in alignment with the vast majority of religons and those whom practice these beliefs world wide and if all people involved in one sect or another be it Judism, Muslism, Chritianity (to include Mormonism) Hinduism, Budism etc. voted their beliefs this would have even been by a larger margin and many did vote their beliefs to include all listed above. They vote this way simply for the right to keep marriage between one man and one woman sacred, they do not vote this way to take away any rights (quoting Obama below) from those that belong to the LGBT group.

“While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do. Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is about who we are as Americans. It’s about whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect.”
    — Senator Barack Obama

He is right we need to stop allowing us to be divided as we are the United States of America so we can stand together as brother and sister of our Heavenly Father and be the nation that he would have us be. We are not he Divided States of America, all too often both parties pit us one against another. Several time though out this election I asked myself who would make my choice the best one for the coming presidency. I believe Obama is that person and he will be an excellent president, I have voted party lines (Republican=GOP) since I was able to vote and this is the first time that has ever changed for me. I beleive as I stated above it is time to unite for the better cause and better outcome for all involved.
