thats something my mother brought up.. how can she raise a 4 month old special needs child while running for and (god forbid) being VIce President and possibly President. She can't. She would push the child off on servants or her husband or whatever, and that child wouldnt get the love that right wingers say that a child needs (a child apparently needs a mother and a father or it will shrivel up and die according to them).

The bad part is that all the Oh-Trig-is-really-Bristol-not-Sarahs-child crap has given aid and cover to the Palins against Bristols REAL pregnancy. Now they are spinning it as "see, no way trig could be BRistols, she's currently pregnant out of wedlock with ANOTHER kid".

this is very fishy. i would like to know: 1) how long after she reported that her waters broke did she deliver the speech? how long after her waters broke did she get on the plane? the reason for this would be that the longer she remains out of the hospital, the higher the chances of infection to her fetus...and she and/or at least her doctor should have been aware of this. 2) as she and her obstetrician knw that she was going to deliver a baby with Down syndrome which can develop serious complications after birth, particularly related to cogenital heart defects, why was she not delivered at a hospital with the appropriate services.after a quick look at the hospital where she did deliver, i did not see any of these services.

Let us not forget her daughter was out of school for 6 or 7 months during this whole time of her "mother pregnancy" I also spoke to a couple doctors at my wifes work and they said that they would never have recommend or advised her to fly ever. And also that since the child is special needs they would recommend a bigger hospital. I say there is three possibility's on this. One she was intentionally reckless. Two she is stupid or three http://www.bristolpalinpregnant.com/

While we spin away about Palin, McCain is hiding in her shadow. I must admit Rove is brilliant. He diverted everyone's attention from the economy, the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the housing crisis, the banking crisis, unemployment, manufacturing all going offshore, tax breaks to the rich, totally failed Bush administration for 8 years. Corruption, pedophilia, diaper wearing, toe tapping, molesting interns, molesting children, bribe taking that infects the GOP from top to bottom. Instead we are wondering if she had a baby or not. Time for Hillary to publicly ask a few questions on Palin's view on solving the systemic problems that are destroying America, the thoughts Palin has on the economy, the war in Iraq, the despair that Americans are feeling about the future. Time for Obama to give Hillary some major role in his Administration and unleash her on Palin. Media can't accuse Dems of piling on with Biden if they use Hillary and her experience and pit bull approach.

lynchie: You are absolutely right. Hillary would be the perfect person to take Palin on. Only Hillary could do it right, as an Obama supporter.
Like any good republican rich mommy, Sarah will let Concita, the illegal nanny, raise her kids for her. They will be neglected badly and grow up like weeds through the floorboards of her home. One good thing is that they will learn Spanish well and early. But they will feel a cold mommy who is trying desperately to run with the big dogs of Washington and who will come home at night a raving maniac. These children would be much better off in a home with two gay parents because gay parents would be far more careful and diligent about how they are raised. They have something extra to prove. Missy Iditerod is just popping out puppies like any good evangenital.

Really, there are only two possible explanations for her decision to fly back home after her water broke: 1) she's negligent, or worse 2) she was more than willing to take the risk because she didn't care if she lost this baby (who she already knew had Down Syndrome).
The_Spoiler

3) She wasn't having the baby, her daughter was....so there was no problem flying all the way home to meet her secret Down Syndrome grandchild.

What Palin did does not make her a strong woman it makes a foolish, irresponsible woman. Any woman that would not go to the hospital but continue on with her day and get on an 8 hour flight in my opinion is just selfish and she is not putting the health of her baby first. Palin gambled with her baby's life
But the second part to this story is choice she made a choice for her baby and for her health, but she would take away choice from her own daughter if she were raped. Also why did Palin have an amniocentesis if she is against abortion under any circumstances, because having an amnio is invasive and it can cause a miscarriage and mothers usually have it before they reach 4 mos so their choices are still open.

How about this story from Reuters? Clearly they need more birth control education in Alaska-
Print | Close this window To rebut rumors, Palin says daughter, 17, pregnant Mon Sep 1, 2008 12:22pm EDT
By Steve Holland
ST. PAUL (Reuters) - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.
"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us," the Palins' statement said.
"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support," the Palins said.
The Palins asked the news media to respect the young couple's privacy.
"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media, respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates," the statement concluded.
MCCAIN KNEW
Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.
In the short period since she was announced last Friday, Palin has helped to energize the Republican Party's conservative base, giving the McCain camp fresh energy going into the campaign for the November 4 election against Democrat Barack Obama.
McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" circulating on liberal blog sites.
According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.
A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.
"The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama's name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change,'" a senior aide said.

Palin never got big with this pregnancy. She said she didn't try to hide it but didn't feel a need to alert the airline, either.
They landed in Anchorage around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and an hour later were at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Wasilla.
Baldwin-Johnson said she had to induce labor, and the baby didn't come until 6:30 a.m. Friday.
"It was smooth. It was relatively easy," Palin said. "In fact it was the easiest of all," probably because Trig was small, at 6 pounds, 2 ounces.
i do not know much about potential complications for a mother in delivering a child with down syndrome. however when my wife gave birth to our son who has prader-willi syndrome it was anything but easy. he is our third son and was by far the longest and most difficult delivery of the three. he was not premature but he was indeed the smallest.

The whole pregnancy thing does seem fishy. It sounds more like she had to run back to an obscure Alaska hospital where the daughter was giving birth. There is no other good reason for why she'd endanger the child like that otherwise.
The fact that the underage daughter is pregnant again to me only shows that the kid is obviously sexually active (and unsafe) and only makes the rumors more likely.
All this could be solved with a birth certificate. Something tells me the right wing isn't going to put nearly as much work into that as they did the Obama birth certificate though.
And seriously, when are parents going to learn that "abstinence only, no abortions, condoms and birth control are teh evil" only results in underage girls having their first (possibly second) babies before they are even out of high school.
But the daughter is going to marry the father of the kid(s), so its all ok. How old is he? Is statutory rape a possibility here?
Ms. Palin seems to be trying to rival the mother Jamie Lynn and Britney Spears for mother of the year.
And with McCain's famous Chelsea Clinton / Janet Reno joke, the McCain / Palin ticket has no moral high ground when it comes to children.

She had a high-risk pregnancy but her family doctor, not an OB-GYN, delivered it. And she flew across the country when she began showing signs of going into labor. Let me start off by saying I feel very sorry for her children. (Is she the primary care-giver? I keep hearing her husband is a house-husband, which would be fine, but then I hear he is a union worker, working in some oil-related business. Which is it? Either? Who is parenting those children?)
And the stories of her "heroic" labor and delivery, 4 months ago, is laughable. ANY mother who has had children can see the holes 10 miles away. I can guarantee you her story is false. I have 3 children, which all came within 4 years. (Yes, one year I was childless, and 4 years later, I had 3.) You see, with each passing child, your labor gets shorter. By my 3rd, my labor, from first pain, to delivery, was 45 MINUTES. I am really sure she could have felt labor pains, had her water break, and then go on a series of plane trips and car rides. hahahahahahahahahaha
I am still laughing. If ANY one of the religious wackos (who all LOVE babies as long as they can have them -- the more the better) still close their eyes to THIS series of lies, they are going to you-know-where.

apparently the 'first dude' started out playing Mr. Mom at the beginning of her governorship. Mr. Palin took a leave of absence due to a perceived conflict of interest on Sarah Palin's role as governor when her spouse worked for British Petroleum. Just months into office, however, he returned to the oil field, and there was quite a bit of controversy over the decision in Alaska.

You know -- I'm a damned leftist, pro-abortion, pro-contraception whatever-the-hell liberal with no apparent damned values. I managed to get married before I conceived any children. And once I did conceive and give birth, I chose to stay home with my children even though it meant less income, deferred career goals, and less "stuff." I was a soccer mom, Jr. Great Books leader, a docent in the science program, a PTA president, a LWV vice president. To my shame, I was even briefly a Cub Scout leader. I taught my kids about sex and birth control. I told them sex was very special and not something to be done casually. I told them to respect their partners and themselves. My kids are wicked smart and articulate and were accepted to great colleges. I assume, with a certain amount of knowledge, that they were sexually active with their steady boy/girl friends. My daughter (24) never got pregnant and my son (28) didn't impregnate anyone.
I'll put MY values up against Palin's any day of the week. VOTE FOR ME!

Catdance, I'm exactly the same... Married 28 years (happily), both kids born in wedlock, I was a football & soccer mom and I stayed home with the kids although I did run and enter public office while the kids were small but it was part time. I'm the very picture of a perfect fundie except for the whole believing in a woman's right to choose, people's freedom of religion, crusading for same sex marriage, giving my boys "too much information" about birth control and teaching them to respect women and themselves.
I also actually have about the same qualifications as Palin since the office I held necessitated me to handle a budget of over 580 million/yr. and deal with myriad issues for 8 years and I've been fortunate to have travelled as an education advocate to numerous states and countries. Oh... wait... that makes me more qualified since I've actually had a passport since the age of 6!!!

what i think is most strange and frightening is that they felt it to be *so* crucial to get back to alaska for the delivery. as noted on a dailykos diary, this lines up with there "alaska" first, AIP affiliation. they wanted their son born on alaskan soil. why was that so important???????

Her traveling while in labor is a highly questionable decision. Prioritizing a speech and a risky flight over safely giving birth to her child (who she already knew had DS) is weird. But for a mother of an infant child with DS to commit to almost not being an involved parent to this special needs child for as many as the first 8-years of his life is the most glaring issue of all. I don't know what mother of children would think that this is a great decision by her.

(*NOTE*: my Life-partner G is posting this comment: )
34 years ago, in my early 20's and already having given birth to two children, I had a high risk pregnancy. At 25 weeks, I started leaking amniotic fluid. I was put in the hospital immediately. Because of the leaking, I was told, the risk of infection to myself and the baby was very high. I was kept in hospital until the erratic labor subsided. My "water" never actually broke for the week I was in the hospital. However, the day after I was sent home my baby began delivering spontaneously, feet first - no "broken water" no labor pains.
How can a woman, who has already given birth 4 times and is in her 40's, not know that each pregnancy is different? How can a woman , who has gone through 4 pregnancies, not be well versed in the dangers that can happen and know how to take care of herself ? How can a woman, who knows her pregnancy is high risk, not know that things can take a turn for the worse at any moment? Every expecting mother gets the standard pamphlet about pregnancy at her doctor's office. The restrictions on travel later in pregnancy, the warning signs of things that can go wrong and when to call the doctor.
And, how can a doctor advise a pregnant, high-risk patient to continue on her journey knowing that the patient was leaking amniotic fluid and exposing herself to public bacteria for 9+ hours! If true, this doctor should have her license permanently revoked !
How can a woman, who (politically?) values the lives of ALL unborn children, be so blatantly negligible with her own unborn child? You don't have to be a psychotherapist to consider that someone in her shoes might have unconsciously wanted the pregnancy to end in a still birth. But, that would be politically incorrect to even think, let alone, say out loud about a political figure .
It makes me furious that some would spin the story to make it look as if she did this out of her sense of "duty to the people" . Gov. Palin's choice of whether or not to travel, in light of the risk she was taking, was ultimately HER choice - even if she had consulted her physician. She had to know she was risking the life of her unborn child, with high odds that the delivery could end in a fatality.
For all the care and precautions I (and the medical community) took, sadly, my daughter was stillborn. Palin (luckily) beat the odds. Some would give the Governor a medal for her bravery – forgetting her stupidity.

An ugly thought just occurred to me as I read this post : If Palin is the real Mother of this child - and if she's told the truth about the events leading up to his birth, then it strikes me that Palin, unconsiously, DID NOT want this child and was hoping that, somewhere along the way in her journey back to Wasillla, something decisive and unfortunate would happen to him.
Now that he's been born and is merely 4 months old, something else that is decisive and unfortunate HAS happened to him; his Mother's time and attention is off somewhere else.
Please forgive me if, in your opinion, I'm WAYYYY off base.

To rebut rumors, Palin says daughter, 17, pregnant
Mon Sep 1, 2008 12:22pm EDT

I'll put MY values up against Palin's any day of the week.
VOTE FOR ME!
Now that he's been born and is merely 4 months old, something else that is decisive and unfortunate HAS happened to him; his Mother's time and attention is off somewhere else.
Please forgive me if, in your opinion, I'm WAYYYY off base.
I'm not alone in my "ugly" thought - and that's a relief!

If I'm not the only one thinking it, maybe there's something to it.
