AMERICAblog: Religious right now trying to punish pro-gay speech

  • vickif · 7 months ago
These people aren't Christian at all. Jesus would never do or say hateful things like these people do. Miley Cyrus is more of a role model than these hateful bigots.
  • dacnova · 7 months ago
Haven't the "christians" learned not to try to take on Disney yet?
  • JohnInTexas · 7 months ago
Maybe the pro gay marriage folks should get the Miss USA who actually won to speak out for our side, I mean, Miss California um DIDN'T win.
  • cowboyneok · 7 months ago
Good point. They keep having the First Runner-up on all their shows? Why? She LOST... Let her go back to California and be "Miss California." Lets hear what Miss USA has to say.
  • Jophus · 7 months ago
You can't make this shit up. haha.
  • FunMe · 7 months ago
Maybe this brouhaha will make it more evident that these "people" aren't really Christians. Maybe they are the leftover KKK?

As for the GOP ... wow, 20% and counting. Downwards!
  • timncguy · 7 months ago
I agree with you. These haters are going to go one step too far and then suffer a major backlash. Going after a HUGE Disney start, just for speaking her opinion, might be the straw that breaks the camels back.

It's time that a whole lot of people (both gay and straight) come out and call these hate groups on their bullsh*t.

Just in the last few weeks they have had:

The "Storm" commercial full of lies.

Miss CA claiming we have a CHOICE in this country and it sure is great to live here with choices.

Then the dipshit Rep from NC claiming Matthew Shepherd wasn't brutally murdered because he was gay. IT was just a robbery.

Now they are going after Miley Cyrus for her opinion, one week after they defended the right of Miss Prejean to voice her opinion.

We have to reach a tipping point soon where someone with some real clout stands up and smacks these bigots down and tells them ENOUGH with your lies and distortions.

If you want to discuss the issues rationally and ACCURATELY, then fine, but the lies and distortions MUST END.

"Clearly she is confused and does not understand the Bible."

Clearly. God wants us to judge others so that he doesn't have to.

I guess I am different from so many Americans. Most (on our side) revel in the fact that "only 20%" are Republicans now.

I am horrified that 20% ARE! Think of it -- 1 in 5 Americans are brain-dead freaks.

    It is depressing.

Apparently 3 former Miss California's made an ad in support of gay marriage (I think I saw it on Huffington Post's entertainment page).
  • willconway84 · 7 months ago
ok this stuff is getting ridiculous. i am not gay...nor will i ever be. not that that is a choice i can make i like women...end of story. but this is just to much...i think they are the ones that are misunderstanding the bible...jesus did say love every one, and not to judge...maybe in the old testament of the bible it said that homosexuals were an abomination, but the new testament and the teachings of christ supersede the old testament...all that was old is made anew through jesus...so as to who is misinterpretating the bible i would have to say that it is the religious right....anything that makes their point of view work they will say...

I agree with you on the bible, but more important than what is written in the Bible, is what is written in our founding papers and passing legislation right now.

    Religion has no authority.
    We are all equal.
In some places we can get married.
And Hanna Montana can say whatever the fuck she pleases (I don't believe that phrase is verbatim)

Miss Kalif was making nice with the Matt Lauer-tron on the NBC morning propoganda program. I've decided not to watch anymore. Allow me to add: I'm not a Christian and I'm persuaded that since those people say they are Christians that that's what they are. So that's what Christians teach. Really! If that's not the case then the other Christians need to get a podium and speak up.

Check out the following BBC radio show they did in Oklahoma to celebrate Obama's first 100 days. They wanted to see how ignorant and backwards Republican Oklahoman's are and they were not disappointed:

Wasn't that your voice, cowboyneok, saying "Abortions coming out the ears."? An interesting new medical procedure, to say the least.
  • cowboyneok · 7 months ago
Wasn't that disgustingly stupid considering how abortions went up under George W. Bush's Presidency? For all their pro-life hype and talk, Republican Presidents seem to make the environment perfect for their followers to resort to choosing abortion while rallying for other's not to have the choice to make that decision with their doctors.

Wow, I wasn't a big fan of Miley Cyrus, but NOW I am. Go Hannah Montana!
  • Mike_in_the_Tundra · 7 months ago
Do these people have any logic? They're the ones who say love the sinner, hate the sin when talking about gays. If they want to think of us as sinners, that is their choice. However, they get upset when someone suggests that Jesus loves gays. Even if we were sinners for living our truths, wouldn't it make sense that Jesus would also love the sinner and hate the sin?
  • lilybart · 7 months ago
OMG that is so disgusting. It's the faux Christians who have not read the Bible. Or have not read the New Testament.

Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors and our enemies. Jesus spent his time with people the Religious Right would deem not worthy.

She is saying we are all LOVED. She is not telling anyone that God approves of them (he does though, if there is a god) just that we are all loved as god's children.

Seems to me she is a GREAT role model for kids!

nice to hear Christians who aren't all about the 'hate' thing.

    here's another one: http://instinctmagazine.com/celebrity-interview...

    Gotta love Kristin Chenoweth.

the Christofascists are desperate to keep their flock in line...but seems more and more people are rejecting the message of hate, fear and bigotry.

Jesus didn't really come across as a bigot, did he?
  • Hannah · 7 months ago
AFA: "Clearly she is confused and does not understand the Bible."

Ummm, no, Miley is correct and YOU are confused. Jesus taught that the two greatest commandments are Love God and Love One Another. Read your Bibles! Miley stated it perfectly.

God will not descriminate between gay and straight. All are equal for God
