AMERICAblog: Rep. Jared Polis on DOMA and that DOMA brief

We have a constitutional law professor issuing signing statements and executive orders for the indefinite incarceration of alleged goatherd "terrorists." He only chooses to follow the law when it comes to the gays. Otherwise, no law applies to this administration.

Not just a new generation of gay leaders, but a new generation of leaders gay or straight. I'm not gay, but I can't understand how this bull shit doesn't drive everyone up the wall. Its insane. Its not like anyone is asking for something special. If you were asking to be given super special marriages, I would be opposed to that, but gays in this country are just asking to be treated like people. I guess some animals are more equal than others in this country still. Its unbelievable, but its true.

As usual, Obama talks the talk, but can't walk the walk. But you know, at some level, they get it: Just do anything to avoid talking about that goddamn brief, right?

The one thing I have a problem with is that Rep. Polis uses the phrase: "choose to date" somewhere in that interview. To me, that rings very strongly with, "Homosexuality is a choice."

The reason Gibbs doesn't have answers is because they thought they could get away with doing nothing for us for years. Which might have been true if they hadn't screwed up with that DOMA brief. Now we're not going to believe their words until they're backed up by some action. No gay rights = no gay $$.

See the Post article about the WH event?
Here's a great quote from some "friends:"
His comments were received enthusiastically by some attendees. "This is so incredibly historic and symbolic," Mitchell Gold, a gay-rights activist from North Carolina, said after leaving the White House. "I don't think for a minute that we can forget that under the Bush administration we didn't see that."
Steve Elmendorf, a Democratic lobbyist, said Obama gave "people confidence that he understood their movement, understood their struggle, and had a plan to do something about it."

In other words, "I, personally, didn't get invited to the White House during the Bush Administration, so things are definitely better! I mean, I actually got invited to the White House!"
whatever...

barack is just reading from the clinton playbook. clinton also "got it" that we all deserve to be treated equally under the law.. and, of course, "felt the pain"...took the money and the votes and then screwed gay people to the wall.. and not in the good way. these morons who are applauding barack as he betrays them in the courts are a disgrace.

Let the cannibalism continue (unabated please).
You got played and you don't like it. They told me if I voted for John McCainiac, we have lying SOB in the White House.
I have to say that Mitchell Gold's comments are my personal fave. Way to go, Mitch!

Why, when the press have a congressman on their show, do they only ask him about what the President is doing? What is Congress doing? What is taking so long to get things moving along? Jeesus, I'm all for keeping Obama's feet to the fire, but they rarely take these folks to task for also not acting, or taking too long!
I know he's been in office jsut a few months, but can't he give an opinion on the work that is (or is not) going on in Congress, the place he was sent to?

Why is this confusing to people???
Obama is not going to do anything for gays in his first term b/c he and his admin. fear it will backfire with Americans and he will put his re-election in jeopardy.
I am willing to bet he will do alot for us in his 2nd term.

Of course, it's not only the LGBT community thats getting pissed, at him any more. Many progressives feel that he's not taking the actions on many of his campaign promises. It seems to be more interested in being liked than ever taking a politically difficult stand (i.e. health care reform, LGBT issues).

Oh my, I should not post when getting ready for work, sorry for the atrocious grammar.

And you base this assumption on Obama's words ?
RichardS

Gee, you're making the assumption he'll have a second term. Remember, the voters in this country aren't always the brightest bulbs...... remember, they voted for bush TWICE!! And the rethugs ruled the congress for at least a decade....... We can't assume anything! We want our equal rights NOW....not four years from now...

He and his admin. think they will.

It's the same way Obama ran his campaign, he takes both sides of every issue and the media gladly prints whichever version works best at that time.

Why is it politicians can never give a straight answer to a question? The question Polis is asked is 'does Obama's actions in office match his words' as to what Obama expressed on the campaign trail...... instead of getting a straight up 'NO his actions have not', we get a short history lesson on DOMA .......... never answering the original question. With LGBT leaders like this we'll surely continue to get those, oh so sought after, ...crumbs.

Gibbs says Obama hasn't met with people in the Pentagon over DADT?
The Navy Times reports that Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, has discussed DADT with Obama and Gates:
Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, says he has discussed “don’t ask, don’t tell” with Obama, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and his fellow chiefs. And while he’s customarily guarded about the nature of those talks, he is to be applauded for pursuing a thoughtful approach.
In a May 27 interview with Military Times, Mullen said he has urged “a measured and deliberate” pace to avoid an emotional, partisan fight with service members caught in the middle.
His counsel is that now is not the time for such distractions.
Here's a great quote from some "friends:"
His comments were received enthusiastically by some attendees.
