It is just unimaginable the death toll and the refusal of the government to allow aid into that country.

Clearing away forests for rice fields and shrimp farms seems to be not a good idea while sea levels rise due to global warming.

I'm donating money from Dear Leader's $600 bribe to Foundation for the People of Burma ( http://www.foundationburma.org/ ) even though I was intending to use it to pay medical bills. I was directed to the organization by two of the American Buddhist retreat centers that owe much to the Burmese buddhist tradition (IMS and Spirit Rock) and it seems that because the foundation has so many contacts inside of Burma they can, and already are, providing help while large NGOs and countries are waiting for the military junta to even let them in. It's small scale but because of that I really believe that my (our) contribution(s) will more likely and more quickly make a difference.

Their government seems just as bad at handling natural disasters as our's.

France & Bushco have given the Junta the excuse it needs by hinting at regime change. Now they can steal cash and rebrand goods while keeping the donors at bay. Meanwhile, up to 150,000 may die, and millions suffer. It's time to call in the Chinese. They are the Junta's best, if not only friends. Without China, the Junta couldn't survive. They have the pull to get the generals to allow foreign aid workers in, while guaranteeing that the West will not invade. I figured I'd ask them, since Bush never will.
