AMERICAblog: Rove's "fingerprints are smeared all over the case" says former Alabama Governor Siegelman

  • GrantinHouston · 1 year ago
Will we ever see Karl Rove doing the perp walk into prison?
  • grandma · 1 year ago
I saw the bit on 60 Minutes about this case....I am so glad Siegelman was released today...

Also Dan Abrams is following it on his show...

52 former state attorney generals,, both Republicans and Democrats, have urged the US Congress to investigate the Bush administration's use of the US Department of Justice in this case.

Rove should be in prison for all the stuff he has pulled.
  • philip · 1 year ago
Won't it be fun if it turns out this was all Rovian payback for the Governor not cooperating with the coverup of Bush's Alabama National Guard records?!
  • grandma · 1 year ago
It's on Abrams show on MSNBC right now...
  • grandma · 1 year ago
The Siegelman case is maybe the clearest case of Bush's Justice Department misconduct, and Karl Rove is right in the middle of all of it. Rove had better give Gold Bars Luskin a call - time for some more billable hours.

Hopefully, this will unravel the misdeeds of Rove and corrupt politics.
The SOB has been getting away with everything, and it is time someone held him accountable for his crimes.

OT, but this seems to be a good day for Obama, the latest Gallup Poll has him leading Pinnochio by 8 point, and the latest Pew Reseach poll by 10. points.

I suppose Bush would just issue Rove a pardon....like he did Scooter.
    Damn !!!!

In cases where superdelegates received money from Obama's Hope Fund but none from Clinton's PAC, Obama got the superdelegates' support 85 percent of the time. And in cases where superdelegates received money from Clinton's Hillpac but none from Obama's PAC, 75 percent backed Clinton. Some superdelegates, such as Democratic Sens. Robert Byrd of West Virginia and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, received $10,000 from both Obama and Clinton. Neither senator has endorsed a presidential candidate.

Brings shopping around to a new low. The candidates lean on us so they can pay off a bunch of hustlers. Is this campaign finance REFORM? Why not just have the hedge fund guys buy them off and eliminate the middle man? They can wear T shirts "My vote was bought for ___ by ___.
  • hector · 1 year ago
Responding to a question about CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson’s outing, Rove, seemingly joking, added:
I haven’t been indicted yet, but I fully expect to be by the end of the year.
    http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/10/rove-iowa/

    Can't be too soon.
Why isn't Grover Norquist or Angelo Mozillo in jail?

"Won't it be fun if it turns out this was all Rovian payback for the Governor not cooperating with the coverup of Bush's Alabama National Guard records"

YES...please remember this is about Bush's whereabouts back then.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
interesting....just read this about Bush's military service on Wikipedia:

In September 2004, the 527 group "Texans for Truth", offered a US$50,000 reward to anyone who could prove that Bush fulfilled his service requirements by either "first-hand, eye-witness testimony," or authentic "documentary evidence."[64] As of January 2008, the reward has still not yet been paid.

Raw Story ran a great piece on the specifics on the Siegelman case. I cannot remember the reporter's name nor can I find it in the archieves but it was one hell of a piece of investigative journalism. Rove is definitely up to his eyebrows in this case BUT as usual trying to prove it is going to be a long, hard and probably fruitless effort. Rove, it seems, is one cautious guy, meeting people on the street to prevent wiretaps etc. If I didn't know it was a real life story I would think it was a thriller the way this governor was framed and tossed into jail.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
BTW if any of you are in Rosemary Beach FL you might want to drive by Rove's new home and yell "traitor" or something similar.

    Now, isn’t that special….

It really is touching that the NYT has finally featured this story in a way that just screams "Too little and too fucking late!" -- but still....the editors have finally decided to "run with it" at long-fucking last.

Actually, Scott Horton has been covering this story in Harper's with so much depth and sense of moral outrage that various liberal/progressive talk radio hosts -- specifically, Mike Malloy, Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow, Sam Seder, and Jon Elliott, to name but a few -- have researched and covered this story, too, in the past few months by featuring in-depth interviews with Scott Horton, Don Siegelman’s lawyer, and Siegelman’s daughter, who has probably been his strongest advocate.

But, many people in this country still believe that the story (whatever it may be) must be true because they saw it on the TV machine -- consequently, it was the piece on 60 Minutes piece that reached the widest audience and aroused the greatest numbers of people to react and raise questions that challenge of the "official narrative" which has broken down under genuine scrutiny.

Be sure to watch Dan Abrams’ show Verdict this evening, because Abrams does an excellent job of covering the Siegelman story and the latest developments and puts them in context with spot-on analysis – so, set your TiVo.

Also, telephone the House and Senate Judiciary Committee staffers and tell them to urge the Chairmen to issues an avalanche of subpoenas to Karl Rove, demanding that he stand before the committees -- under oath – to give sworn testimony about his role in the Siegelman case.

    A rhetorical question:

Why is Karl Rove still running around free and collecting big bucks for opening his toxic trap and pontificating on FOX News and other venues? He did stiff the Senate Judiciary Committee by failing to honor their subpoena by simply failing to show up – so, how about some follow-up and accountability?

Clearly, it really is time that the Democrats in the House and Senate summon the courage to become the "law and order and enforcement and accountability" party.

I know, it’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.

So what's funnier? Rove in prison or Bush in exile.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
don't know which is funnier....but gotta get Bush first so he can't pardon Rove.

    grandma

I think that you just might be on to something, there.

But, realistically, maybe the best way to get Karl Rove is to wait until after Bush packs his bags and heads back to Crawford for good -- that way, Bush can't pardon anyone...even himself and Cheney! -- because Bush will be out of office …at last!

Bush and Cheney and Rove and Rumsfeld and Condi -- and other members of the Bush Crime Family -- can still be prosecuted for crimes committed while Bush and Cheney controlled the White House.

Moreover, the Bushies become much easier to prosecute at that time, because they can no longer claim their favorite justification for stiffing congress -- "executive privilege.” -- that handy-dandy "Get Out of Jail Free Card" is no longer operative once Bush leaves office.

Still, the fools in the House and Senate who took impeachment "off the table" and became Bush enablers -- specifically, Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer and Harry Reid and their ilk – should be the next in line to be sent back home for good.

The most impeachment-worthy president in the nation’s history doesn’t get impeached -- even when the Democrats have a sizable majority in the House -- go figure.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Good point !!....yes ...and only about 9 more months to go.

As for impeachment....what a tragedy for America that this man was allowed to remain in office...
I believe history is going to look back and ask why?

    Sigh. Rove. Again.

Remember the good old days when nobody lied.

Thanks for that link. I tried to find, without success. Larisa has done a marvelous job of breaking down the Siegelman affair. For those of you that are just vaguely familiar I really recommend you click on the link supplied by Bumpkis. It will just blow your mind that this could happen in America, but then after 8 years of Bush I guess nothing is too shocking.

Roves fingerprints? This is the Clintons plane and simple. She is not going to step down. She will be like Hittler in the Bunker at the end of WW2 playing commanding her armies that do not exsist. She has gone off the deep end. I hope she never leaves!

There's enough criminality within the BushCo White House to keep an honest Attorney General busy for a generation.
  • dula · 1 year ago
I'm sure there are many Republicans in Washington who would love to send Rove to prison but are afraid of a backlash...wait till the Dems take over...perhaps they won't be so afraid then.
  • Hangtown Danile · 1 year ago
The next preisdent whomever it may be will give Bush the same pass that Ford gave to Nixon and that GHW Bush gave to old wild Bill. (I know that there is more in his history to be indited for than just lying about Monica.)

"Rove fingerprints smeared all over"? How will they ever get the Ring Ding smudges off those documents?

    Thanks Sarah B.
notice a big drop in posting across threads.
I wonder if traffic is down as well.
Now, Sarah B, what would make me really happy is to have the comments box with an option for bottom of page.
Does John really think we have to be forced to re-read the original post every time the comments refresh.

    Sheesh.

Logging in now? Probably a good idea. Rove is truly the Martin Bormann of modern US politics. He is the closest thing since Cheney to pure evil.
  • KatherineHepburnEyes · 1 year ago
It's time to send a subpoena to Karl Rove to make him cry like a baby. Subpoenas are like garlic to the Bush Administration. It will be interesting to hear if Karl Rove tries to make this an "executive privilege" moment or not.
  • jr · 1 year ago
Rove's Politburoian tactics have destroyed our country while Fox anchors suck up to him when they do "election 2008" segments
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Let's just hope that some day justice will prevail and that Rove is held accountable for all his treasonous acts.

If his execution were put on Pay per View, we could probably make a big dent in the deficit. I know I'd pay quite a bit to watch someone slip the noose over his neck while he pissed his pants like the coward he is.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
Rove is a private citizen now. Damn right he better be under oath.

is this ablog2.0? does the whole frickin' page have to reload for every new comment? how can i tell when there's new comments? what are these positive and negative numbers? can i change my username?
  • Sarah B. · 1 year ago
    Hi, Jenn!

    Welcome aboard the Ablog ship!

    Is this the long-awaited Ablog 2.0? I don't think anyone knows for sure...except for John Aravosis and friends;

    Yes, the page does perform a huge reload dance every time you post a new comment -- things are a lot more zippy and fast if you use Firefox rather than IE 7 -- but it still does the same reload regurgitation thing in either case;

    You can hit the little "Opinion +" button on the Comments page just below the box where you type in your comment -- whereupon a little pull-down menu will appear that allows you to choose if you want the comments to appear on your screen with "Newest first" or "Last first" or a couple of other options -- I prefer the “Newest first” option, because I find the comments easier to follow when they appear in a chronological sequence…but that’s just me;

    Suffice it to say that the positive/negative arrows are insane, and you can find more info on them if you run your mouse over what would be your gravatar pic and click on "View full profile" -- then open that page and go up to the right-hand corner and hit “Dashboard” and the Disqus gnomes will tell you more about “Clout” points system (the arrows) than you ever wanted to know. They are ridiculous and unspeakable silly, but then I didn’t invent the program;

Finally, you can change your moniker – just go into the “View full profile” page and hit the "Edit Profile" button under what would be your pic -- and when you open that page just scroll down a wee bit to "Display Name" and type in whatever name you fancy. I know, it’s all so bloody complicated.

Anyway, it’s good to see you – it’s been way too long.
    :)
