Reading the part about the announcement on Pearl Harbor Day gave me chills.

As a veteran, I have just one thing to say:
"Revenge is a dish best served cold."
Well, one more thing. "Hooray!"

I'm a 100% disabled vet and can only think things are going to get better. And, I received a notice in today's mail with a 5.8% raise coming in 2009. It sure beats the 2.9% we were expecting.

Some of my friends were saying all through the election (for the last TWO FRIGGIN YEARS..LOL!...especially the republicans) that Obama doesn't have the experience this, and no experience that... And my argument was that he can SurROUND himself with experience, as he is doing now with his appointments. That should shut em up AND down for awhile...

Well what experience did Bush bring to his white house. Hell is was a governor. He had no experience in international affairs. At least Obama travelled more than Bush did. Bush doesn't care if he ever travels.

Well thank you for the 'do you remember where you were' trip down memory lane, but what does that have to do with this post? Anything?

Friend this country needs to learn from the past before it moves forward. We haven't learned a damn thing about the mistakes of VN. We have repeated the mistakes in Iraq. Pearl Habor was before my time. It was a just war unlike VN and Iraq. Once this country minds our own business maybe the world will be a better place.

To be a fly on the wall when Rumsfeld gets this news.

I truly doubt the bastard really cares. He is at home with his millions laughing all the way to his personnel bank behind some door because the US banks are going down. Please, like Bush and Dark Vader none of them have a conscious.

I'm not so sure about that. Rumsfeld has had little man syndrome ever since the Ford administration. He constantly has been trying to "prove" himself since the 70s and always failed. This is just another failure on his resume.
I heard this on the 11 o'clock news and almost gave myself whiplash turning around to look at the TV screen. Every time Bush decides to stick his weasely little head out of the WH, he looks just a little bit paler. Reminds me of a vampire who has no victims left from whom to suck the blood.

this is just the beginning of 44 sticking it to the bush admin and its minions, the cons will think they are in hell after obama gets through with them and their fascist tendencies, maybe there will be jail time for some of the more deserving members of this criminal club of cons.

Shinseki's personal gratification hardly means anything to our 4,000 troops who died in Iraq or the 1.3 million innocent Iraqi civilians who died for the damned souls of Bush and Rummy. That is to say nothing of the 120,000 of our soldiers who committed suicide after the trauma of that illegal, criminal, and very stupid war. Then there are 4 million Iraqi who are displaced and living ... or trying to live as refugees. We also have the uncounted hundred thousands or so of our troops were permanently injured to who Bush callously denied care, pretending they were uninjured.
Shinseki was proven right, but that hardly rights the wrongs committed by these criminals. It doesn't even make a tiny dent in the suffering of a tremendous number of people who were used for cannon fodder and grist for the mills to gratify the greed, egos and lust for power of these foul, vile, disgusting excuses for humanity. If Shinseki is only in it for base retribution, he is better than the Rummy ... barely.

i'm just glad someone who is distinguished, competent and really patriotic was chosen and not some cronyish idealogue.

As a wife of a retired military soldier I must add my congrats to the General. Above all the troops need to really know and understand that there really is someone in the position that cares. Putting soldiers first will make a big difference to all the active, retired and especially the soldiers that are wounded in war.

I would like to see someone like Gen. Shinsheki offered the position of Secretary of Defense. Max Cleland would be good as Secretary of the VA. Hopefully, once the Obama Administration is finally and fully in place they can look to getting rid of Gates.

I think Lawrence Korb would be an appropriate choice to replace Gates, who I agree should leave soon.

Did Obama really say that the reason he appointed Shenseki was BECAUSE he 'was right', or was that lifted out of context, althought I don't doubt that Obama said Shenseki was right about the troop numbers, I doubt that that was the reason he was appointed (re: causal factor). I got the impression he was appointed because of his record of service, dedication, and honesty. Which would seem good qualities to have to lead the VA. But the reason I'm writing is: I was disappointed in the media for asking non-VA questions at the press conference and disappointed in Obama for answering them. Could we not focus on Shenseki's appointment, our veterans, and the VA for more than ten or fifteen minutes?

Why not give the knife a further twist by offering one of the fired Prosecutors, say David Iglesias, his job back? Hispanics would love it too.

Yeah.. Bush and his cronies always had a boner over little things like "the truth". "The truth" always hurts when your entire argument is built on misleading falsehoods and lies. Damn Truth! Always in the way!

Link to a Kos Diary by Homer J which speaks to a personal interaction with Gen. Shinseki that some might find interesting.
What was the point of this piece, to identify that Obama picked Shinseki intentionally? This has some kind of inference that there is an evil plot but does not point out what was so bad and referred to as "the knife". GEN Shinseki had the stones to stand up to that politiian Rumsfeld, HOOAH! Shinseki was protecting our soldiers then and he is doing it again now. Obama is smart for picking him. Nuf said.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold."
Well, one more thing. "Hooray!"
