AMERICAblog: Rush wants Sotomayor to fail as nominee -- and still wants Obama to fail as President

  • Rob · 6 months ago
This is GOOD for us! Even though Sotomayor will be approved (we have the votes, they don't) Rush and the neanderthal "ditto-heads" will demand that Republicans strongly oppose her. Which will insult Latinos, pushing them further into the ranks of the Dems.
Result: Repubs spin their wheels, shoot themselves in the foot once again!
  • Father_Time · 6 months ago
Rush wants his pecker to get hard, but it ain't gonna happen.

Why does anybody care what Rush wants anyway?
  • RitornaVincitor · 6 months ago
But every time Rush opens his mouth he helps the GOP to fail. I love it!
  • HereinDC · 6 months ago
Of course Rush is the head of the GOP.

He makes 40 million dollars a year.

Of course you listen to him.

I don't exactly care what this Limbaugh buffon has spouted or will yet spout.
I know our concerted mockery is making it mighty sweaty under those mamouth narcotic-saturated moobs...
  • tlsintx · 6 months ago
    haaaahahaha...ew!
  • tlsintx · 6 months ago
i want limpballs to STFU but that ain't gonna happen

    suck it up, limpballs.
  • Rob Mule · 6 months ago
Ah...Rush exhibits one of the signs of fading celebrity and influence, clinging to a catch phrase.
Pitiful. As the winning concept 'Rush the fat Rethug buffoon' isn't wearing well with the radio entertainer, Rush clings with his little flipper arms to a firm belief that he's still the smartest man on the heavily canted deck of the Titanic.
You are (glug!) Rush (glug!!), you really are...(bubble, bubble, glug!!!)
  • Older_Wiser · 6 months ago
The Rethugs can almost all fit in the clown car now. But this has me worried about reproductive rights and Sotomayor does make the 6th Catholic on the court (Wikipedia):

In Center for Reproductive Law and Policy v. Bush,[42] Sotomayor upheld the Bush administration's implementation of the Mexico City Policy which requires foreign organizations receiving U.S. funds to "neither perform nor actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations". Sotomayor held that the policy did not constitute a violation of equal protection, as the government "is free to favor the anti-abortion position over the pro-choice position, and can do so with public funds".[43]

This worries me about the future of reproductive rights.

Good grief, does anyone know her position on gay rights and gay marriage, on DADT and DOMA?
  • Zorba · 6 months ago
Good points. I, too, thought the same thing about the Catholicism- SIX Roman Catholics? Although, if Obama wanted a Latino/Latina on the Court, they're overwhelmingly Roman Catholic. And Republicans do risk further alienating the Latino vote by trying to obstruct her confirmation/voting against her. Still, the Supreme Catholic?
  • lilybart · 6 months ago
Please don't take offense, but I think we should all stop caring about what he says.

STOP giving him more of a platform.
We know what he is, we don't need to hear everything he coughs up.

Same with Palin. How about this....they don't exist.
  • tlsintx · 6 months ago
    no offense taken, lilybart

i think calling him out on his bullshit keeps him from being able to fly under the radar as stealth leader of the wingnuttiest of the GOPers...

make him answer for his ugly, hateful, ignorant rhetoric.
  • katiec · 6 months ago
Am so sick of the media contantly giving Limbaugh, Cheney, Rove and any republican speaking out against our president
    their glorifying headlines.
They refuse to acknowledge that these hypocrits have no trust, respect or creditibility from the American people.
By headlining their idiotic ravings they are supporting them and
getting them they attention they do not deserve.
They are evil, dishonorable men and we do not want or need to hear their dispicable decisions.
  • HereinDC · 6 months ago
    "They are evil, dishonorable men..."

ALL THE MORE to keep them in the limelight.

Just in the last few months....look how all the elected GOP katow to Rush.

    I find that a hoot!
  • jreed · 6 months ago
Who cares what this dumb fuck says. Why do you give him any coverage at all? Just ignore him and he'll go away.
  • HereinDC · 6 months ago
Ignore him? I don't want him to go away.
Face it...we've now branded him the face of the GOP.

That 3x divorced, oxy cotton, viagra is the Face of the "new" GOP.

Just as Strom Thruman was the face of the GOP
and David Duke in the 90's
and Mark Foley and Larry Craig the last few years....

    We WANT Rush Limbaugh!

and throw in 3x married Gingrich.

btw, what happened to that 6pac abs young GOP kid?

How come we don't hear about him anymore?
    :) :) :)
  • tlsintx · 6 months ago
and guess who slipped up in his initial attack and referred to Sotomayor as "Maria"

    that's right...Gomer Huckabee.

"From everything I know, Judge Sotomayor is an outstanding choice - fair and aware, open and judicious," said Evan Wolfson, head of the national Freedom to Marry organization. "I believe she has the demonstrated commitment to principles of equal protection and inclusion that defines a good nominee to the Supreme Court. In choosing Judge Sotomayor, the first Latino candidate for the Supreme Court, President Obama has made a strong and appealing nomination that should and will receive the supportof those committed to equality for lesbians and gay men."
  • samiinh · 6 months ago
I too worry, though, about six Catholics on this one court. Doesn't seem quite diverse enough for this atheist.
  • tlsintx · 6 months ago
great round-up of the wingnut response to Sotomayor from firedoglake:

  • whomod · 6 months ago
Well yeah, Rush and his racist ilk should be worried. This is another milestone in equal opportunity for ALL Americans.

Obama now has expanded the assumptions on "equality" by nominating a Latino (no, not "latina"). Before this, the assumption about "equality" has been for too long, narrowly defined as being solely about including blacks or to a lesser extent, asians. I don't think I can recall a time in National politics when the paradigm of inclusion and equality wasn't simply thought of as about African Americans v whites.

So yeah, Rush has every right to be scared. The goal post has moved again. Big time. Now you can't just take for granted that a Supreme Court pick won't be a white, a man, or a black person. It's time for Rush and his ilk to have to consider the seismic ramifications that Latinos now too have a prominent seat at the table.

    You got it!!!

As opposed, of course, to how all you wacked out libs wanted the great George Bush to succeed, right???

Why can't Republicans be as nice as you guys?
  • tigergrrldc · 6 months ago
John Kerry, nobody wanted Bush to fail. We already knew he was a failure before he took the oath of office! We hoped he wouldn't f**k up as bad as we thought he could. No such luck.
  • johnkerry · 6 months ago
HA!! What an absurd comment. Not even worth commenting on but at least
the great George Bush had some governing experience as compared to a
"community organizer" (what the hell is this???)!! Admiral Obama is an
    inexperienced non entity!
  • threadmonitor · 6 months ago
    johnkerry,

If you want to join in the conversations here, fine, even if you have a different point of view, but if you are going to continue writing insulting nonsense, you need to find another blog. More comments like this one are going to be deleted and if necessary you will be banned again.
  • Gridlock · 6 months ago
Uh, i just wanted Bush to STOP failing, considering he fucked up everything he touched.
  • johnkerry · 6 months ago
Oh yeah...like keeping us safe for eight years, like removing a horrible
dictator who was intent on destroying us and who wanted to use chemicals
on us, like giving us a great economy for most of his years in office!
    You mean things like this!!

    ****************************
    Really...name ONE thing!!

You were warned, but, ok, we'll do it your way.
  • whomod · 6 months ago
Y'know.. I think sometimes Chris Matthews deliberately puts Pat Buchanan up in front so that he can expectedly lob all sorts of racist nonsense thus ensuring explosive confrontation in order to drum up ratings for himself.

    It's Hardball via Crossfire.
  • zeq2m9 · 6 months ago
Seems like no one's gonna be happy from either side, no matter what and no matter when. There's no pleasing anyone... Bi-partisanship takes not only effort from Obama but also from the GOP, in terms of accepting some of his decisions, not just blindly bashing anything he does without thought.

  • Older_Wiser · 6 months ago
I suspect we will hear more about this nominee as her record is thoroughly examined in the coming week or so.

I'm only hoping she doesn't wind up a reverse Souter; she's considered a centrist by the ABA.

    Guess we'll find out.
  • okojo · 6 months ago
I would ignore Rush. He is a racist creep. He is in charge of the self indulgent wing of the Republican party.

Sotomayor will be approved. In some ways, I think the most disappointing group with Nominee Sotomayor if she is approved will be liberals. Her job is trying to play nice with Justice Kennedy.
  • RobertSanDimas · 6 months ago
Wow.. every photo of him shows more pork! If he keeps that up, that stone heart may give out. Shame, eh? Same for Cheney.
  • dcanon · 6 months ago
I'm very surprized no one has looked into the en. Kay B. Hutchison angle. She is running for gov of tex. Texas hispanics will be looking closely to how hutchison votes on sotomayor.
  • jasonut29 · 6 months ago
At some point the Republics in congress have got to take their party back. This idiot will continue to babble as long as it makes news but he just makes them look more stupid on a daily basis. The man can't even open his mouth without offending people! A load mouth, bigot, drup abusing, conservative now that is the way of the Republican party!!! Good for the Dems I guess..Which of course I'm not particularly fond of today either.
