AMERICAblog: Salon: New evidence suggests Ron Suskind is right

  • Indigo · 1 year ago
According to the FBI, circumstantial evidence is enough to justify arrest and probably conviction. Circumstantial evidence was enough to go after the Anthrax Guy so it's clearly enough for the Congress to go after the responsible parties in the White House.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
Well this is certainly true in Guantanamo. :-O
  • sconset · 1 year ago
People such as Suskind do NOT write books just for the sake of writing a book. His research was widespread and he talked to multiple sources and received affirmations and evidence that terrible things were going on.

Unlike the clowns who are the administration and their minions many, many people have consciences that are really bothering them. Of course, we have a media that would rather focus on "missing white girls and babies, Paris Hilton and John Edwards" than do any expository pieces and followup to Susklnd and Jane Mayer's breathtaking books.

If the so-called 'liberal" media did its job, this country would not be headed in the direction it is rapidly heading in....straight to the bottom.

    John, thanks for covering this.

When everything coming out of Washington is a lie what choice does one have? Every story told by the GOP in the last 8 years has pretty much been a bald face lie. For example, take the anthrax suspect - suicide? Perhaps. Guilty? I hardly doubt it - Bush and his criminal cabal was not only involved in 9-11, but also the anthrax murders. Members of this adminstration are nothing but criminals, starting an illegal war for profit and power. I would bet a huge sum of money that future historians will trace the Bush family dynasty back to the Kennedy and King murders and beyond - starting with Bush Sr and his dealings with the Nazis under Hitler.

But Pelosi thinks it would be "wrong to impeach". By not impeaching Bush will pardon all the criminals that could be indicted - exactly what the founding fathers thought would never happen - hence, they gave us impeachment to remove a criminal from office before he could use his pardon power to protect his co-conspirators.

Whatever gov't we have now, it is damn sure not a democracy.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
I don't believe you can pardon a person who has not been charged with a crime (what's to pardon?), and that may be why the House Judiciary committee is not moving forward.
I would prefer seeing all of them strung up, but if Bush is just going to pardon them and set them free, what's the point?
A War Crimes trial makes more sense to me.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
President Ford pardoned President Nixon in advance.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
I believe Ford pardoned Nixon for all crimes, civil and criminal, connected to the charges of the House Judiciary Committee. The pardon had to have subject matter or it would be meaningless.
The mistake Ford made, and later acknowledged, was that he did not include in the pardon words to the effect that acceptance of the pardon constituted confession of guilt.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
hawkseye - good point; for some reason (maybe something I have read in the past) I was thinking more along the lines of retro-active immunity - but I hear ya. I agree that Bush, and especially Cheney, should be tried for War Crimes. I don't think this country will ever be the same until those who were responsible for the unjust slaughter of Iraqis are convicted - also I hope the 9-11 story doesn't dissappear into some TX sinkhole like the Kennedy assasination (and the Robert Kennedy, M. L. King, et al.).
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
What bothers me though is Susskind's CIA source said the request for the bogus document was written on cream colored White House stationery. Knowing what we know about the White House's obsession for secrecy, does it make sense they would commit such a highly questionable order to paper. Even if the recipient destroyed the memo, someone could have made a copy of it. And obviously several people saw it.

I have no doubt believing Bush and Cheney, Addington and the rest of that bunch would not give a second thought to anything that would give them the war they were determined to start, but I have a hard time believing they would put it in writing.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Someone new on this scene has verified, and laughed about, the fact that the order was written on cream colored paper.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Oh.my.god. This is HUGE. The lies, behind Bu$hco.'s lies, are all starting to be uncovered. Is impeachment still off the table? Bu$h and Cheney need to live the rest of their lives in Leavenworth.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
In general, I oppose the death penalty, but in this case, I would make an exception.
I think, as more and more evidence surfaces, a war crimes trial would be the most appropriate venue for dealing with the murders of more than 4000 Americans and over 100,000 citizens of other countries. Impeachment would not be severe enough punishment for such crimes.
Its a horrifying thought, but recently, because of Susskind's charges, I have begun to believe that Bush and Cheney, perhaps Rice and others, understood fully in July or August of 2001 that an attack was about to occur and did nothing to stop it because they wanted war.
There is a small college in Maryland (?) that has taken up the study of war crimes trials and how they might be constituted.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Unfortunately, a small college in Maryland would be laughed at by Bu$hco. Our congress needs to go after them, but we have a congress who believes the constitution doesn't apply to them.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
The college I was thinking of is in Mass. and they are merely studying the matter. But all current scholarship on the matter will be helpful if the Congress, President, Sec'y of Defense or Atty. General proceeds with establishing a tribunal for prosecution of the crimes.
Nuremburg, the Japanese and other proceedings will provide all the guidelines they need.

painting ron suskind with the brush of some "kooky conspiracy theory" says more about you, john, than it does about ron suskind...

  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
I trusted Suskind's reporting on this from the get go. What was so "kooky" about it? The man did his homework and sourced his story. It's called REAL journalism.
  • SarainKC · 1 year ago
Olbermann has had Suskind on his show two nights in a row and reported last night that a conservative blog confirmed the allegation, although they said it was not directed through the CIA, but through Feith's office. Everything else they confirmed. If these guys get off, shame on us all.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Yes, I saw that on Olbermann, too.

    BREAKING NEWS:

John McCain is speaking on the campaign trail LIVE on CNN. He is trying to convince Disabled Veterans he will not leave the sick veterans, and stand by all his promises to them. Kind of makes you wonder about the promises he made to his SICK WIFE, CAROL, when he left her for Cindy Hensley, the pretty and rich young girl who wanted to be his trophy wife. John McCain claims he will keep his promises and not leave the sick or wounded behind? Ha! Ask Carol McCain about it. She'll tell ya! Besides, McCain already has a proven voting record that says his talk about supporting the troops and veterans is ALL TALK! Republicans vote against the troops then go on FOX News and wave the American flag and chat with newsreaders about how they support the troops. John McCain: If you are sick, and its not convenient for him, he will leave you IN THE DUST!

The avalanche of lies this administration has told is just mind-boggling, too many to keep track of and even harder when the media doesn't do its job.

The creator and distributor of the Niger documents have never been established nor has it ever been made explicit that the other friendly foreign government intel cited by Bush et al as somehow both supporting and mitigating their error were merely duplicates of the Niger forgeries.
And, in addition to geopolitics and oil, many of the world's wealthiest ancient art collectors, facing future legal difficulties over looted treasures, were also pressuring powerful US leaders for access to Iraq...The American Council for Cultural Policy had its first meeting on October 9, 2002 and met quietly with military and civilians in the Pentagon and in Rome by the first month of 2003.

If the American people are getting close to discovering a HUGE damning lie about the administration, you better believe they are going to try to throw up a smoke screen! What is happening with Iran right now? When are the bombs going to drop! Congress needs to step in and DEMAND, "No NEW wars until the Iraq questions are answered!" That way, Cheney and friends, won't be able to just throw up a new fog of war to hide all their criminal doings that led to the Iraq disaster. If given the chance, Bu$hco will destroy all of us to get away with their crimes. Don't put it past them!

I never had trouble believing Suskind, but the more the merrier!
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
More and more often it seems that things that were considered conspiracy theories mere months ago are turning out to be true.

I trust absolutely nothing coming from BushCo Inc. Whatever they present, consider it a lie and investigate the exact opposite and more often than not that is the truth.

BushCo's actions for the past seven years have been an infomercial for treason, war crimes and crimes against humanity. This, as they say, is the mere tip of the iceberg.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Absolutely. Saying this accusation or that one is "absurd" doesn't cut it when you consider this administration is the most ABSURD administration in history! Also, I don't believe Tenet since he doesn't seem to be able to recall ANYTHING when its inconvenient.

In other words, Karl Rove and Dick Cheney set up the CIA to fake the evidence. I don't think Bush is capable of anything beyond smirking inside a Simian cage.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Chances are Ron Suskind is not lying.

    Let's see...

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, and the other neocons lied about yellow cake and forged a document, they said Al Qaeda members and Saddam's people met somewhere in Europe, they said Saddam had terrorist training camps in Iraq, they got that slimeball Chalabi to lie and exaggerate about the situation in Iraq, they lied about WMD's, they frightened the American people about mushroom clouds, they lied about the war being very short, they lied and assured us, that the Iraqi's could pay for rebuilding, hell, they lied about everything, and everything was a lie.....so what is different about Suskind confirming the fact that they forged documents? It was done before, and it should be no surprise now.

Unfortunately, Congress seems to giving these war criminals a free pass.
The Bush/Cyeney war criminals are getting away with murder...the murder of a million Iraqi civilians, as bad as Hitler, no?

We knew this years ago. Once again another war crime is admitted, and will go completely unpunished.

The Bush administration has committed countless war crimes and impeachable offenses, too bad the I word is unacceptable in the halls of Congress these days..

if only we could get an intern to blow Bush we might be able to impeach him.. /sigh.
  • donotmakemecomedownthere · 1 year ago
Impeachment papers are already on the table. The only reason the Dems don't get behind Kucinich is the votes he may garner in the fall.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
I wonder if we have enough on him now?! What do you think Speaker Pelosi? Have we finally reached the bar where you will do something about it?
  • paulbe · 1 year ago
maybe you should look a little closer at what you call "kooky conspiracy theories" John. Its surprising how many of them fit the facts better than the "official" versions do.
  • lark83 · 1 year ago
I don't know wny so many people are giving John a hard time for thinking it was a "kooky conspiracy story". I thought the same thing and I'm still skeptical. If true I would dearly love to catch Bush doing it, but you really have to not let wishful thinking cloud your judgement. Right now my thinking is some lower level neocon gave might have given Allawi the fake document. Its such a poor forgery though that even that possibility seems half crazy.

We need to track down the origin of that document. Where did Allawi get it?
  • nikto · 1 year ago
Peolosi saw the torture memos and the spying memos as well,
    and said nothing.

If impeachment is pushed, Pelosi herself, along with a few other top leadership Dems who also saw the memos & said nada, could be accused & called as a defendant, right along with Bu$hCo.

I'm not sure how many folks realize this.

Although, personally I would be happy to sacrifice and CONVICT a few compliant Dems, right along with the vile Bush Regime.

The guilty, top Dems are protecting their own asses as well as Bu$hCo's.

Part of the plan, no doubt.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
That has been gnawing at me for several years. That the whole damned thing is a collusion with top Dems and the WH. As hard as that is to believe. I hate the thought. I cannot live with that thought. But now I am really thinking that is what is going on. It may be even worse than we think...top Dems colluding with the WH. Someone is making big money somewhere off this set of lies.

Yup. Thank god I am 57 and won't have to live too much longer to see what lies ahead for this once fine nation of ours. But for my daughter, I fear she will live a very long life and will suffer badly from what we allowed to happen here. I have many days of profound sadness. I think of my youth and JFK and all that hope he gave me as a kid. And my choices to use my brain to be a teacher, an altruist, a person trying to bring something good to the world. And I am very sad now. I wasted a life. I should have gotten an MBA and learned how to fuck everyone around me.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
We didn't waste our lives...We just attempted to live them honestly as the entire system was being gamed to advance yes men and their offspring.
If Vladmir's use of Bush's tactics (as the Decider fiddles in China) in Georgia disrupts the transGeorgian oil pipeline, the corrupt few will have a harder time with the everything's fine media psyop.

What are your values? Live them and chose them with open eyes rather blind faith for self-gain! sad. Fake idealists are sad. People kill for cheap oil. We need to tax it and steer the greedy into innovating alt energy resources for their profits and our well being. thimk!
