I doubt he's any less of a jerk than he was all those years ago.

I can't think of anyone more boring than Nunn. I don't want none.

At least Nunn actually read the Patriot Act and voted against it, but that's about the only good thing I can say about him.

Nunn would be a huge mistake, but just remember that what he did was one of the things that pointed out the character, or lack thereof, of the Clintons very early on. Clinton wimped out! You can't "make a laughing stock" of someone who stands up for civil rights.

Obama: DO NOT select Nunn. Remember Change? That's your theme. Now stick to it.

Sam Nunn is a fascist's fascist. He is a kingpin in the incestuous world of corporate boards. He is on the boards of Coca Cola, Dell, GE, and Chevron. The people he pals around with on those boards also serve on other corporate boards, meaning Sam is within one degree of separation from the boards of over 50 of the largest corporations in America. Oh, and I almost forgot. If Sam were in the number two spot, I wouldn't count on Obama finishing his first term. The fascists would have absolutely no qualms about putting one of their own in power. I'm sure they have a "lone crazed gunman" all primed and ready to roll.

Worst VP selection: Hillary Rodham Clinton. Second worst: Sam Nunn.

...whether or not they did that later in life... well... far be it from me to start ugly rumors.

I was on the staff at RAND when it released a study "Sexual Orientation and U.S. Military Personnel Policy: Options and Assessment" (http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RB7537...) at the time Les Aspin was SecDef . (I was not an author or participant in the study). Sam Nunn had full access to it, and he not only ignored it, he actively sought to undermine its findings. He is unworthy of being a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

I remember that study!
It is amazing that they did not use it ... or like you said, they conveniently ignored it. JERKS!

Living in Norfolk, Virginia, I have a lot of first hand exposure as to what serving in the military is like if one is gay. Excuse my French, but Nunn's following remark is utter BS:
“People don’t understand that that was the beginning point. We basically made it possible for people to serve honorably in the military without lying on the application,”
I would hardly call living in fear of discovery or being outed by disgruntled individuals with the result of being thrown out of the military anything but a positive step.
I truly hope that Obama picks someone less disingenuous and slimy than Nunn .

i guess Nunn could conceivably help with the national security/foreign policy stuff? but i concur with everyone else. nope. i'm ready for someone with the courage to say DADT is unfair and wrong and that's why we're ditching it.

Whenever I hear the words "Sam Nunn" I think of showers and the absurd notion that the US military would never think of putting separators in the showers so that everyone could have some privacy. It seemed important that real men needed to take showers in groups in order to serve the arcane concept of "Unit cohesion." That seemed pretty suspect to me. Guys putting their units in cohesiveness with other guys units. So with this being the major reasoning Sam Nunn invented DADT which cost a gazillion times more than stall showers. He's a ridiculous VP candidate. 69 years old and way of out of touch.

Okay, Nunn on the ticket could dry up my contributions to Obama. I'd probably still vote for him, but having given to him twice now (the 2nd time being last night) I doubt I'd continue if Nunn were his running mate.
Having said that, I think it's important to note that part of the whole political aspect of "coming out" is to help straight people recognize that they know people they either love or respect who are gay, and to get them to change their minds. If along the way Sen. Nunn has had HIS consciousness raised and recognizes gay people as fit to serve, and at least accepts Barry Obama's idea of "civil unions" (no sign of either as yet, but it's a start that he thinks we should revisit the DADT policy), then I could no more disown him than I could my white grandmother who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.
(Actually both both my white grandmothers did. And they've both since passed away years ago. But you get my point.)

The 3rd person feminine pronoun has exactly the right tone in gay slang. Standard English, as spoken by the Log Kabiners, however, does not recognize that usage outside the closet.
But yeah, she's all hateful and like that.

Nunn is the same as Webb. Both have no business as VP, and would hurt Obama greatly!

If Obama wants a VP, get someone to appease Wall Street, like Bloomberg, or a business person. Nunn has been out of politics close to 14 years. He isn't going to help in the South, which will go to McCain anyway... Either get someone like Bill Richardson or someone in another battleground state, but Nunn is not the right person at all...

Oh I am glad to see this post! We know campaigns read blogs and we want them to see this.
Since Nunn's name as VP was first floated, I've learned more about him and for an abundance of reasons, this one at the top of the list, we don't want him.
Anyone that homophobic doesn't just have issues, they have a whole subscription. (I heard that from someones hair dresser)
I hope that Obama's search committee is trying to find someone inclusive that will compliment the ticket and not some old hatefilled gasbag like Nunn.
Obama '08!
