AMERICAblog: Sarah Palin vs. the Turkey - the uncut version

  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Yes, this is what happens to turkeys. But it is completely inappropriate to film an interview in front of turkeys being slaughtered.

Meanwhile, in NYC, David Letterman is mocking gay people, and James Franco (of "Milk") is joining right in on the ridicule of gay people: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/22/james-...

We can't even watch the stars of an important and historic new gay film being interviewed without being roundly insulted by the godamn straight assholes on American TV. I am disgusted. Franco should be ashamed for laughing along with Letterman. Would he have laughed along if Letterman was joking about how gross it must be to be considered good at kissing people of another race? They fail to see how insulting this is. They have a laugh riot about how awful it must be to be thought to be gay. Motherfuckers. I am furious to have "Milk" tainted this way.
  • Gary SF · 1 year ago
Respectfully, I don't find this insulting. It seem more like 'good-natured' ribbing. While your race question is apt, it does not take into account the process of cultural acceptance when taboos are broken. If I remember correctly, a hotel in Las Vegas drained their pool because Lena Horne swam in it. This passed for 'standard operating procedure' at the time.
  • happycozy · 1 year ago
I understand why you're angry at Letterman and Franco, but I'm not sure what that has to do with Palin and turkey-gate.
  • wmforr · 1 year ago
What Franco should have said (and probably really meant) is, "I have no problem kissing a guy--but Sean Penn? Yuck!"
  • Bill · 1 year ago
Thanks for posting this. How absolutely bizarre, the whole deal. This is getting so much play, who would have thought that Palin would inspire people to vegetarianism!

Leave it to Sarah Palin to make a turkey of herself! Did she figure out who the prime minster of Canada is, and the premier of Québec? Maybe she thinks Canada is a republic?
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Leave it to Sarah Palin to make a turkey of herself!

Makes you wonder why she wasn't terrified that they would grab her at any moment and chop her head off, stuff into the machine for stripping off her feathers and split and gut her. She looks just like any other turkey to me. Wonder how often little boy turkeys get amorous. <g>
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
I think this is hysterically funny.

Thank you, God, for making Sarah a Republican.
  • Klayton · 1 year ago
    OH. MY. GOD. BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

I hadn't watched that video yet, censored or not. That is the funniest damn thing! God, please let her be the Republican nominee in 2012. PLEASE! Sarah Palin is a laugh riot. I don't ever want her to go away.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
The problem with that is that what do you think the Republicans will be doing for the next 4 years. They will be working on Palin, coaching her and preparing her for being their candidate in 2012. She faces 4 years of intensive study and hard work so that she won't be quite as massive an embarassment. Then the damn Republicans will conveniently forget what she was like this year and the mainstream media will conveniently cover up any gaffs she makes. And millions and millions and millions of Amercians will think she is perfect to be our next president. Bush doesn't have two brain cells to rub together, but they coached him enough cover up that fact well enough that the Republicans could steal the election in 2000 and 2004. All the Republians need is to make a reasonable showing and their crooked election fraud machine will take over and make Palin our next president.

Do you really think this election was only 6 percentage points apart? Obama beat McCain by 20% but the Republicans cheated enough that it was only a landslide instead of swompting McCain so thoughly that McCain would have had to renounce his citizenship and flee the country ... with Bush and Cheney.
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
Am I crazy to think that Palin did this on purpose? It's much the same thing that Drudge does where he takes something in the news and then ratchets it up a notch. She likes to talk about hunting and killing animals in order to appeal to a certain religious element that believes that "God gave us dominion over these resources and it's our duty to use them." Plus it's poking the PETA-types with a stick.

Maybe that theory is farfetched but it's difficult for me to believe that she couldn't see or hear what was going on or that some assistant wouldn't have warned her.

She's gotten A LOT of press out of it.
  • BarbaraGordon · 1 year ago
She was told that the slaughter was going on right behind her - and chose not to move. Look how much press this incident is getting; it wouldn't have gotten any but for the turkey slaughter. Clearly a planned incident on Palin's part.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
Imagine what we'll be able to do to her after another 4 years of these.
  • Lisa · 1 year ago
she is just a f*ck*ng idiot. her cutesy laugh, folksy manner, and they way she just blithers on and on, make her look like all her genes are recessive or she was a product of in-breeding.

I don't know what disturbs me more -- Sarah Palin giving that goofy interview in front of the turkey executioner, or the fact the turkey executioner was not wearing gloves while doing his job.

I also did not find any of it gruesome, so I am wondering why the other news organizations blurred parts of it. Thank you for listening.
  • triple7s · 1 year ago
Animals are slaughtered every day for food. They don't just appear shrink wrapped in the market. If you are bothered then don't eat meat. If you do, then spend a little more and eat free range, and organic fed meat, and poultry. I still think Palin is an opportunistic empty skirt, and she did look kind of stupid in the clip, with the creepy blood soaked guy in the background leering at her. Perhaps he had other thoughts for her? The whole thing was VERY strange.
  • JustAnOldLady · 1 year ago
Sarah just gave Sat. Nite Live a gift.............pleeeezzzzze, Tina Fey just one more time...........
  • benb · 1 year ago
Haven't we had enough of these stupid press conferences? She's just proves she's the kind of politician she claims she's against. She's right to some extent---any politician with half a brain wouldn't pardon a turkey while at a slaughterhouse.

They cut the head off the wrong turkey.

  • fyi · 1 year ago
What does Nebraska being a "red state" have to do with anything? Omaha doesn't tolerate bigotry and hatred in the name of religion, no matter our political persuasions. By the way, Barack did earn 1 electoral vote from our state, so we're not totally red.

From the Death Of Irony Dept. (via Huffpo):

Days after video of Sarah Palin's interview in front of slaughtered turkeys became a web sensation, the conservative group 'Our Country Deserves Better' releases a Thanksgiving-themed ad "thanking" Palin.

The opening of the spot features an announcer praising Palin...in front of images of roasted turkeys.

When you find yourself in a hole, it doesn't help to find yourself sucked into a sinkhole called the 'conservative movement'...

  • michael_carr · 1 year ago
The greatest irony here is that while Sarah Palin is out there promoting "small business," also, is that she's wearing a Burberry scarf and holding what seems to be a cup of coffee from Starbucks. Oh, and second, she's "in charge" of the turkey. Really? In charge?
  • green_libertarian · 1 year ago
What gore, I didn't see any gore, no blood. The IDEA is still a crackup, but for the life of me, I don't see anything that MSNBC had to fuzz out.
  • Milli · 1 year ago
Soon, most Americans will have to face the turkeys sitting in their freezers.........
  • Lee · 1 year ago
It's what she actually said about her adventures that makes me uneasy:

"... but also, just a... a great appreciation for this great country - there are so many good Americans who are just desiring of, of their government to kind of "get out of the way" and allow them to grow and progress and allow our businesses to grow and progress, so great appreciation for those who share that value..."

Not seeing the forest (52%) for the trees (46%) is one thing, but it's something else to only see hobbits...

Government's been paying too much attention to business? Maybe she sees unicorns, too.

Is it better to ignore her (hard),

    laugh at her (easy),

or refute her (someone's got to)?
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
that was beyond disgusting, one of the most revolting things i've seen on the internet. the turkey slaughter was mild by comparison.
  • CH · 1 year ago
She's just a sarcastic snowbillie queen, you betcha. The scary thing is that anyone can grow up to be president in the USA! AS IF SARAH! She's the new Jerry Springer not W. Democrats here is your #1 poster and clip for the 2012 campaign if she even tries.

This (and a million other reasons), is why I hope that republicans push her to the top of their party. You couldn't ask for a better political opponent. Palin 2012. PLEASE.

  • HeartlandLiberal · 1 year ago
That video is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen.

Of course I was not bothered that much by the turkey slaughter in the background, having grown up on a farm, where one learns quickly the straightforward steps between the farmyard and the dinner table. I have killed chickens by wringing their necks and chopping their little heads off; we slaughtered a goat once for some of the finest barbeque I have ever had. We only kept pigs for a short time, but they, to, must undergo certain, hmm, changes, on the way to the dinner table.

Frankly, what I thought of while watching this is to again ask the question, why do the media continue to cover up the horrible realities of the war in Iraq? Where are the images telling the truth about the slaughter there? Were are the intrepid journalists showing us images of our soldiers returning in row upon row of flag draped coffins?

I much prefer honest and truthful reporting, and I really see nothing wrong with what is going on in the background. That's life. Well, in this case, death.

I was however totally disgusted with once more having to watch the most disgusting, blithering idiot ever to foisted on the American people, pretending to be qualified for the office of president, when she is nothing but a hillbilly low life selfish redneck.

    Geez.
  • Turkeyman · 1 year ago
Ok, so I watched this "uncut" version - where's the gore? Honestly, I'm using a very high resolution monitor and I'm not seeing the decapitation or any blood squirting / spraying. The only thing I'm seeing is the turkey shaking as it's being killed, but that's it.

    Why can't I post?
  • Bush Bites · 1 year ago
The Aviagen video can be seen at www.peta.org. The scenes show stomach-turning brutality. Workers are seen smashing birds into loading cages like basketballs, stomping heads and breaking necks, apparently for fun, even pretending to rape one.

On the tape, one worker describes losing his temper at a tom who pecked him, marking its head with a pen so he could find it again, fetching a broomstick, ramming it down the bird’s gullet and holding it up in the air while shouting “Let this be a lesson to y’all” at the rest of the flock.

His supervisor later excuses such behavior by saying, “Every once and a while, everybody gets agitated and has to kill a bird.” Noting that only two of his crew “really like to do it,” he says they are otherwise steady workers and adds: “As long as they don’t do it a lot, I don’t really say too much about it.”
  • Bush Bites · 1 year ago
Butterball workers were documented punching and stomping on live turkeys, slamming them against walls, and worse during an undercover investigation at a Butterball slaughterhouse in Ozark, Arkansas.

One Butterball employee stomped on a bird's head until her skull exploded, another swung a turkey against a metal handrail so hard that her spine popped out, and another was seen inserting his finger into a turkey's cloaca (vagina).

One worker told an investigator: "If you jump on their stomachs right, they'll pop ... or their insides will come out of their [rectums]," and other Butterball workers frequently bragged about kicking and tormenting birds. Read more in the investigators' log notes.

Funniest political interview OF ALL TIME!!! - This is what we were deprived of during the campaign! More interviews, Sarah, with gravy please. I saw this 'uncut' version first, then the MSNBC one which had the great chyrons but I still can't figure out the pixellation. Besides making it look like turkey-porn it just doesn't make any sense at all, as there's no visible mayhem though everybody can damn well see what's going on... And lost in most of the discussion I have seen is the fact that this farm looks like it gives the turkeys a much better life then the standard factory farm most of us will be getting our Thanksgiving meals from, and that slaughtering them like that is really just about the most humane way to do it. Save for torturing them right before death with the incessant droning on and on of Palin. THAT was animal abuse.

Also quite humorous is seeing her all dressed up, probably in nice shoes too, (also,) wading into the pens with turkey crap no doubt everywhere, then miss down-on-the-farm didn't even want to touch the recipient of her beneficence. Not really the image of someone who field dresses moose...

" I know it's gross, but it's kind of like a train wreck happening before your very eyes."

From what we've seen so far, Sarah Palin's entire bio has been, a gross, horrific train wreck, which we've had the dubious honor of witnessing before our very eyes.
  • wmforr · 1 year ago
But while everyone was watching the man slaughter the turkey, no one was listening to her important message about Americans "wanting the government to just get out of their way so they can grow." She makes a point.

Seventeen years ago, when my partner was pernamently crippled by imported L-tryptophan, we were so glad the FDA wasn't in our way inspecting food supplements. But now, every time we turn around the government is messing with our lives. For example, they keep sending those Social Security Disability checks, every damn month. Worse than that, the amount goes up every year.

Every time he visits a doctor, Medicare is poking its nose in our affairs, picking up 80% of the tab. Why can't they just leave us alone?

We go for a vacation and what do we drive on? That damn Interstate system. Government, government, government, everywhere we go. You know, if the CDC would just let epidemics run their natural course, if the schools would just let poor partents teach calculus to their own children, if we didn't have to bear the costs of a fire department, when our own house has never burned down, then maybe we could drown the government in a bathtub.

Except for new weapons systems, of course.
