AMERICAblog: Sarah stretches the truth: The natural gas pipeline lies

  • dricey · 1 year ago
Her whole small-town-gal-made-good speech was a long tissue of exaggerations and outright lies, not only about her own "accomplishments", but also about Barack Obama and the Democrats' positions (raising taxes on small businesses and ordinary people ???), and about the business of change (attacking a DC "establishment" that is overwhelmingly Republican). But when she launched her assault on the media, and the megachurch crowd in the arena went wild, she also laid herself open for sixty days of fact-checking from the people she attacked. Were she a known "establishment" figure from DC, this wouldn't be true, but she isn't, and McCain has isolated both her and himself from reporters, so this was a huge blunder.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
We need to hammer on Silly Sarah's Wassila Bible Church like the Republicans hammered Jeremiah Wright. Her pastor told congregants that anyone who criticises Bush will go to hell. And last Sunday's church bulletin advertised an upcoming Focus on the Family "Love Won Out Conference" in Anchorage. The conferences promise to "help men and women dissatisfied with living homosexually understand that same-sex attractions can be overcome."

Any VP candidate stupid enough to endorse this bullshit needs to be revealed.

Her attempt to fire her respected town librarian just because she wouldn't BAN BOOKS needs to be screamed from the hilltops, too. Most undecided voters do not approve of censorship... or of firing a professional for refusing to go against her professional ethics.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
The Log Cabin Republicans, those abject souls, endorsed McCain/Palin a little too prematurely.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
They all seem to have premature endorsement dis-order. I guess they could take viagra for that.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Well said. This Palin freak needs to be exposed. She is a nutcase of the highest order. I am telling everyone I know the truth about her, her religion, the Alaska Independence party issue, all of it. Palin stood up at a podium and spewed complete and udder lies last night. She needs to go down.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Anybody could take her speech and make a Youtube video of "The New Girl That Everyone Wants to Work With".

The first week with her would be enough to make one consider allowing foreclosure.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Gibbs and Biden on the breakfast TV rounds: both needed to say it as clearly as this. Refute 3 of her main points, boom, boom, boom. They couldn't or didn't. Just a lot of joshin' around and a weak and tired, "Palin's speech was just more of the same 8 years." No, attack the SPEECH, guys, crisply and clearly, point by point!
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
She's not trying to work to become President, she's going to stalk it into submission!

Here is a list of more lies spoken by Shrill Sarah:

All the earmarks she went for (as a small-town mayor) and she STILL left the town in debt!
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Is there a video of every time Sarah hugged McCain? She afraid to touch him! What is it she knows that we don't?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Ah, we all know he's a Creepy Old Man.

(and, by the way, there is no way in hell she's going to listen to a word he says. He has officially lost control of his party, his campaign and now his vice president.)
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    She lied.

Why does the headline say "stretches the truth" ?

    This is war!
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago

She's definately the woman you don't want going after your husband.

The pipeline is being built by POW's, everyone knows that...
  • lilybart · 1 year ago
But it is a Canadian company that will build this, yes? Is that not relevent when she is going on about American jobs?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, but American Voters are stupid.
  • randysmith · 1 year ago
The Alaska part will probably be built with Alaskan labor. Her husband, maybe! Do we see any conflict of interest here?

But this and the corresponding oil pipeline is what should have been built back in 1975 instead of the "Alaska pipeline" that was built. But the oil companies [mostly foreign I should point out: BP, Shell, ..] wanted access to the sea [Valdez] so they could export the stuff. Only took them 20 years to gain approval.

I wouldn't be surprised if the natural gas pipeline somehow ends up terminating in Valdez also. [American jobs! Security concerns -- can't let those "foreigners" in Canada get their hands on it!] Can't export it otherwise....
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
It makes me shudder to think that McCain has chosen this woman, to step into the Presidential office, if he is physically unfit to do so.

They flaunted the fact that their young, teenage daughter, was pregnant, and even brought the young rascal responsible on stage. So much for these self righteous rethuglicans. Imagine if Obama or Biden had done the same thing, they would have had a field day out of it.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Notice Levi did NOT get named by Momma Sarah last night. She could have said, "My handsome future son-in-law Levi," but she didn't. It's all a part of the MASSIVE denial and cognitive dissonance the GOP must rely on to get votes.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Thing thing to keep in mind about "vintage Bush/Rove" is that they carried two presidential elections. The question now is "Is the public stupid enough to go for all that again?" And the answer is . . . ask the odds-makers in Las Vegas.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
National Enquirer says she's had at least one affair:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/03/mccain...
  • almeino · 1 year ago
Seems like all this won't really matter. The Rove play book is open. Say things over-and-over again and it becomes the truth. What is sad is the media is starting to fall for Sarah and her family (anybody see the fluff piece on Todd Palin on the Today Show?)

This is what I was afraid was going at the outset of the VP pick. Once the media falls in love in this way, it'll be hard to attack Sarah on substantive issues. The sexism card has already been played by CNN (because using the word "shrill" is demeaning to women!?!?....but saying Sarah is "the hottest governor, from the coldest state", why, that's just *cute*).

Little Caribou Agnew's artic version of hackneyed GOP smear and spin themes, like those from Miss Rudy and the other podium losers is a trip down a memory lane most would rather forget and leave in the infamous ashbin of history with other national failures.
No one should fear the newly re-cowed media's positive spin on Sarah's rovian flummery...The Rethugs main objective now is to keep Caribou Agnew locked in her new Dream Bunker...Cheney will have had more public and press exposure as Team McCain tries to avoid spelling mishaps and any overt trauma in Sarah's post 911 version of Murphy Brown's baby.
  • bacalove · 1 year ago
George Bush a governor for 8 years, supposedly had "executive experience", and look where that got us! Maybe that should not be such a criteria for one to be a President and must look to other attributes and characteristics like intelligence, wisdom, judgment and temperment in picking our presidents. The ability to put people first before party and the ability to unite Americans and not divide us.

For Instance, McCain is a big gambler, loves the gaming tables at Las Vegas, which media was well aware of and are just now coming out with after his gamble of the Sarah Palin pick. Is this not a characteristic which should have been made known beforehand. I think the American people have the right to know that McCain has this Vice and whether they want a President who does not have the fortitude to withstand the gaming table!

GOP through the unveiling of Sarah Palin are trying to sell us a bill of goods and mislead the public like they did about the Iraq War! There were no WMD's and Sarah Palin is not the Reformer and the Experienced Leader they are trying to portray her -- sell her as. When did we Americans start Confusing a staged event (drama) with Reality, the truth for a lie!

Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln were not Governors and therefore allegedly had no Executive Experience and yet they were our greatest Presidents!

Republicans belittle community organizers which is a public servant because they do not believe in serving the Public only the wealthy. To be a President means to be the greatest of Public Servants.

GOP Family Values? Yet for 10 years they voted no to the minimum wage for working mothers and families and only after Democrats gained control was minimum wage passed! Yet every year they make sure they get their Raises!

GOP Family Values: Yet they will not approve an affordable health care plan for all Americans, yet they have great health care for themselves. That would be too much like a government give away but its ok for them to get the government give away.

GOP loves to talk about putting country first, prosperity, the flag and in Reality they do nothing but talk and leave out the action. They have fooled Americans for years with talk and no action on behalf of the people. For years under GOP rule the country has declined in economic promise for the everyday families, college education has soared and unreachable for many young people who are intelligent and eager to learn. GOP knows that an intelligent public means they cannot get away with their lies for a higher education trains one to "think for themselves". They do not want people to think but to follow them blindly. Like sheep going to the slaughter! We must not let them sell us this empty bill of goods again.

It is time for us, those who care deeply for this country, to Expose the Myth, the lie and the deceptions of the Republican party. Pull the curtain back on the Wizard of Oz and expose them for what they are frauds and pretenders, who really have no answers at all.

For instance I heard one GOP opertive say after Sarah Palin's speech "When we need leaders the most they step up? Really they read a prepared speech on a teleprompter in front of an adoring crowd and this makes one a leader? We Americans have to stop letting these GOP operatives sell us these empty bill of goods and fill our heads with lies which are not based on reality or truth! We must see clearly the path ahead and not be lead down the wrong path, like Iraq where Bin Ladin does not live. We are at a fork in the road. Can you see the two paths -- one keeping you on the same path of illusion, fear, war and spiraling poverty -- the other to increased, peace, prosperity, good health and unity. We must choose correctly!

Another lie, in a sea of lies.

    Meanwhile, over at Yahoo...

    Perfect populist pitch
"GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's speech draws high praise from the media."

Propaganda and a whore press - there are no limits.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
this is just the backwash...hang on tight...
there will be a faction of ultra-conservative fringe voters who want the McCynical ticket...

but when it gets down to the issues and to the debates, the difference between the two tickets will be clear. Bushco won largely because they presented themselves as mainstream to the mainstream and conservative to the fringe. They're not going to get away with that this time.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
I'm gay but I found the clip of McCain endlessly groping Levi Johnston to be quite creepy. When Grampa McCain greeted Levi at the airport he stood there groping hunky Levi's arm over and over and over and over for a very peculiarly long period of time. See it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCPZZb7zHp8&eurl...
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
The whole convention ignored the 8 years of Bush/Cheney by not having them around. It is as if there is no war in Iraq, no war in Afghanistan, no failure of the mortgage system, no collapse of the U.S. dollar, no record unemployment, no $10 trillion in National Debt, no destruction of the Constitution, no illegal wire tapping, no Katrina and the press give the GOP a pass on all responsibility.
To believe Sarah Palin it is all because the Dems have been in power in Congress for the past year. The out of control spending etc is all our fault and Americans across the country sit around with their dicks in their hands jerking off to the new Librarian VP, shoot their load and say give me more of that pudding and a big piece of her ass.
  • molotov · 1 year ago
None of the lies matter now. The NYT online top story is a nothing more than the narrative they've been itching to write for the last month. You get to read all about the "hockey mom" nonsense and the triumph of POW McCain over all of those who had written off his campaign "just one year ago." McCain will win, and he will win because, in sum, the American electorate is nothing more than a bunch of idiots looking for a quick, easy Hollywood ending. Oh yeah, lest we forget to mention what it's all about.... Jesus, POW, 9-11.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
#1...The NYT could have written that headline a week ago.
Sure the fat mortgage speculators and gov't contractors in the audience were "electrified". It was their job to appear electrified.
Regarding the "assailing critics" part of the Gray lady's headline...GOP buffoons like Spiro Agnew, Bob Dole, Lee Atwater, HW, KKKarl Rove, Dan Quayle and far too many others to mention have been beating this particular drum for more than 40+ years.
If the media should fear anything they should fear that the agenda setting, storyline orginating function has been usurped by the blogosphere.
So fearful of internet scoops and oblivious to the more fantastical element of individual citizen writings and cut loose from the bonds of lost journalism, they hop on and off web bandwagons like Condi trying on shoes.
Patience my pretties...soon somone will ask Sarah to spell "potatoe".

I finally figured it out. Sarah Palin is Tracy Flick from the movie Election.
  • wyt · 1 year ago
Not only does the $500 million go to TransCanada, but TransCanada is a notoriously crooked company. They managed to buy the hydroelectric dams in Vermont using back-door political connections to the Republicans, false-front "citizens" committees, letters sent to the public in violation of agreements with the bankruptcy court handling the sale for the previous owner (an Enron casualty).... Even TransCanada's own lawyers, speaking privately, agreed that it was one of the crookedest companies they'd ever worked for.
  • randysmith · 1 year ago
I suspect the $40billion is going to be a whole lot closer to the truth than the "consultants" expect. Given that it'll be 20 years before the thing gets built and not counting the "graft" that will accompany it.
I wouldn't be surprised if TransCanada doesn't come back to Alaska [Feds, eg us taxpayers] for a large part of it. After all, a natural gas pipeline can't possibly be profitable without subsidy if oil is "only" $100 per barrle -- or whatever it will be in 5-10 years.

But another question: What is the Alaskan equivalent of Halliburton? There has to be some company that's going to get rich off of Palin. Might as well buy its stock while its still relatively cheap! [My broker told me back in 2000 that if Cheney won I should hock my grandmother and put it all into Halliburton. I didn't listen!]
  • toddalcott · 1 year ago
To a liberal, Sarah Palin is a crippling nightmare because McCain is a feeble elderly man and she stands an excellent chance of becoming president. But to the Republican base, she’s an electrifying dream — because she stands an excellent chance of becoming president. McCain isn’t “throwing the base a bone” by nominating one of them to a powerless office, he’s extending hope to the base, who strongly disliked him before but will now come out and vote for him in droves in the hope that McCain will, in fact, die and office and give them the president they really want. To the majority of the country, McCain’s message is “You better hope I stay alive in office,” but his message to “the crazies” (Rove’s term, not mine) is “Hey, you never know, I’m an old, old man.”

For all of the cable pundits talking about what a great candidate she is, they miss the point. What the speech did show is that she would be a disaster as a VICE PRESIDENT or PRESIDENT; and isn't that what the electorate is picking? This need to fill airtime by talking about political tactics and style detracts from the real issue - the fitness of the candidate for the office.

George Bush was CEO of a failed oil company [Harkin] and the managing partner of a losing baseball team [Rangers] before he became Texas governor. He also has an MBA from Harvard.
That alone would seem to disprove the value of "executive experience" as a criteria for President.
And from what I hear, his Texas experience wasn't all that great either.

jerome armstrong at MyDD has fallen for Sarah bigtime. something about 'connective tissue' being torn while holding a baby. gasp! also this original metaphor: she hit it out of the park. some poeple just love listening to a lying, insulting asswipe with a 80s hairdo. to each his own.

Time for Hillary to prove her loyalty to Obama, get out on the hustings and attack Sarah. Only a woman can attack another woman without being perceived as a sexist bully.

Time for Hillary to prove her loyaliy to America. This is not about Hillary or Obama. It's not about Democrats Or Republicans, red states or blue states. This is about the survival of the United States of America in any form that the Founding Fathers could. recognize. Palin is Bush and company on steroids. One way of getting Alaska independance from America is to distroy America
  • Nuffsaid · 1 year ago
If and when the pipeline ever gets built, where is it going? I know of no border that Alaska shares with the US. If the pipe line goes to Canada, Who owns the gas? If the Gas is being sold to Canada, How exactly does this help with America's Energy problem.

So we are going to pay a Canadan company 40 billion to build a pipeline to transport American gas to Canada, I guess there were no American companies that were able to build such a huge project. Then the Canadains can, maybe, sell it back to us, at a profit for Canada. This seems like a good deal for somebody but not the American taxpayer or the American consumer.
  • Nuffsaid · 1 year ago
The United States bought Alaska from Russia, it was called Stewards Folly. It seems that history has proven this to be the case. Alaska wants to be Independant from the USA. Let them. We get rid of the biggest "Welfair State" we have. Alaska recieves more money from the Federial Government every year than it ever pays into the the GNP. Let them go out on there own for a while and they will be begging the Russians to take them back.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
"Palin also puts the price tag for the project at $40 billion, an exaggeration. This is roughly $10 billion more than most cost estimates industry players and consultants have made to date"

One wonders where the extra $10 billion will go...much like the federal money for "the bridge to nowhere" that Palin kept after that debacle imploded. Evil comes with a pleasant face. She has too many moral farts hanging around her to not be called "stinky" for the rest of her life.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
She also told the lie again of her son shipping off to Iraq on September 11th, when it has already been noted that the date was incorrect and that she shouldn't be giving out that type of information. "Loose Lips Sink Ships."
