Huge scandal in the U.K. over politicians bogus expenses. Watch this video and tell me that the same smug attitude isn't shared by our Senators and Congressmen.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/blog/2009/ma...

Our problem is that there is no media who would look into this. I don't believe for one second that our politicians are any different or more honest. They are in the game for money and they don't give a rat's ass about the average American.
  • vkobaya · 6 months ago
They are in the game for the money

Wrong! Money is only a part of it. They are in the game for themselves, money, power, presteige, and the chance to kick around those who disagree with them. Also disagree that our politicians are not any different. No ours are far worse, more corrupt, dishonest, greedy, etc. Old countries have a tradition of honor which is laughed at in this country. In the old countries, the politicians can be shamed, but as we've seen repeatedly in this country, with Blaygojavich, and other such brazen crap, nothing at all can shame our politicians.

Wonder how the Washington crowd would react to an audit of their expenses over the past 20 years. All these millionaires who never spend anything but taxpayer dollars. I agree ours are worse but as for the UK crowd being shamed I don't see it. If that was true Blair would stay inside his home. They are brazen and soul less.
  • vkobaya · 6 months ago
Blair was the exception, zero character, honor, ethics, integrity, etc., Bush's lap poodle, eager for a belly rub, scratch behind the ears, doggy biscuit, chew toy, etc. You find Blair's kind anywhere, mostly prison.

    Good morning...

    Charles Blow, NY Times:

According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released last month, Cheney’s positive rating has reached another low: a measly 18 percent.

So, the Republicans need to dump this crotchety recalcitrant and develop a new vision that embraces moderation and inclusiveness, for all our sakes.

Look at it this way: Cheney’s positive rating is even lower than George W. Bush’s. And he shouldn’t speak for the Republicans either.

    Unless he wants to apologize.

makes a difference whether you ask "are you pro-life?" or "do you want to make all abortions illegal?". you get a bigger yes vote on the first question even though it's synonymous with the second. a fair number of self-declared pro-lifers don't know what the term means. Megan McCain is a great example of that.
  • mpower1952 · 6 months ago
In this same vein, sometimes when a "pro-lifer" asks, I say I'm pro-life, life of the mother.

    love it, mpower1952
  • nicho · 6 months ago
"Pro-life" is just a phony term cleverly designed to put pro-choice folks in a trap. Who is going to tell someone they're "anti-life?"

But that was the whole idea and was designed to play into the "culture of death" bullshit that flows out of the Nazi pope's mouth.
  • nicho · 6 months ago
Basically, 51 percent of people who still have land lines, who are home a lot (not working two jobs) and who don't use caller ID to screen their calls are pro-life.
  • CDS2 · 6 months ago
I would like to see the question asked about late term abortions.
  • tlsintx · 6 months ago
why bother when Gallup will spin it no matter what?

It appears we have hired every grade school drop out into the Prison system.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/459/story/1050424.html

The recent Bring your Kid to Work program in Florida has resulted in the use of stun guns on at least 43 children approved by the prison officials and it appears the parents of the kids.

TALLAHASSEE -- A total of 43 children were directly and indirectly shocked by electric stun guns during simultaneous ''Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day'' events gone wrong at three state prisons, according to new information provided Friday by the Florida Department of Corrections.

Also, a group of kids was exposed to tear gas during a demonstration at another lockup.

Coherent thinking is now optional in our schools and government so why not in the people running our lockups. You just can't make this shit up.

It's stuff like this that could put The Onion out of business.
  • vkobaya · 6 months ago
So, does that mean if there was a gurney next to the injection machine, the prison officials would also have thought they had to demonstrate capital punishment on all 43 kids also? Let me answer that, "YES!"

Why isn't this being reported today?

MOSCOW (AP) - Riot police violently broke up several gay rights demonstrations in Moscow on Saturday, hauling away scores of protesters hours before the Russian capital hosted a major international pop music competition.

City officials had warned they would not tolerate marches or rallies supporting the rights of gays and lesbians. Activists had targeted Moscow, which was holding the finals of the Eurovision song contest on Saturday, to press their claims that Russia officially sanctions homophobia.

Police seized gay rights protesters as well as some members of religious and nationalist groups that staged counter-demonstrations. They also took away gay rights activists for simply talking to reporters, and ripped the bra and shirt off one female protester.

Moscow police spokesman Anatoly Listovetsky said 40 people were detained, although media reports said up to 80 had been seized.

Among those detained were British activist Peter Tatchell and American activist Andy Thayer of Chicago, co-founder of the Gay Liberation Network. (more)

Gay rights in Russia are about where they were in the 1960s in the US. Will be interesting to see if protests by performers are allowed at Eurovision.

Glorious day here in the land of "Hope" and "Change."

Obama has named a Mormon bigwigs -- and possible presidential rival -- as ambassador to China.

And, he's named an official of one of the country's biggest polluters to head up the pollution office of the DOJ. (File that under "Fox Guarding Henhouse.)

Still waiting for him to "reach out" to the GLBT community.
