I'm no fan of Charles Krauthammer but he doesn't have much good to say about McCain picking Palin calling her a 'rookie':
"The gamble is enormous. In a stroke, McCain gratuitously forfeited his most powerful argument against Obama. And this was even before Palin's inevitable liabilities began to pile up -- inevitable because any previously unvetted neophyte has "issues." The kid. The state trooper investigation. And worst, the paucity of any Palin record or expressed conviction on the major issues of our time."
Exactly....the GOP has now become a religious organization.

The Talibangelicals are dancing in the streets here in Tulsa, OK!
They are salivating over having an EXTREMELY old man as President and then being able to shove a radical pentecostal onto the American throne of power. They want someone there who will take control of our constitution and personally rewrite it for KKKristians who still want Levitical laws followed in the year 2008! If Sarah Palin becomes President think about how easy it would be for one of those Christian Republican Timothy McVeigh types to think God is speaking to him to make her President! Think about how a Timothy McVeigh might try to assasinate John McCain hoping for a more "KKKristian" agenda and Supreme Court Judges! Hell, Arkansas just suffered the loss of their Democratic Chairman from one of those idiots. A Right Wing idiot wrote some kind of graffiti on the walls of his Target employer (I can just imagine what he wrote) got fired, and marched into Bill Gwatney's Democratic Chairman's office shot and killed him. I'm telling you, folks. The radical religious right are truly TALIBANGELICALS and we had better take the threat of them putting Sarah Palin in power seriously.
Upholding Levitican Law in 2009? Fine with me...besides you and I being abominations (which is mistranslated from Torah Hebrew anyway) let us start with the list of others.... 1. Woman in temple during her period?....stone her to death. 2. Shrimp or lobster or pork for din-din?....stone him to death. 3. Wearing two different fabrics?....stone her to death (start with Ms Thang Rodeo Queen, if only for bad taste. 4. Neighbor out of work? ...stone him to death. 5. Unruly children?....stone them to death. 6. Driving or working from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday?....stone him to death.

As the beginning of Astrophil and Stella, this poem is both witty and clever. Even as it rather elegantly claims that what it needs is less elegance, it manages to start out on the wrong foot: i.e., the trochaic one. Even referred to it in my dissertation.
As an expatriate (but not an ex-patriot), I've had to look at the changes in my country over the past decade and a half and wonder if it will still be there for me to return to. If McSame-Serial Mom (without the taste) gain control of the White House, America risks falling into a theocratic corporatist state from which democracy may never recover. A hundred years of progress gone in just a few years. How many of you remember Blue Laws? How many remember the dark days of back-alley abortions? How many remember, "Sorry, this facility for 'whites' only?" How many remember Joe McCarthy and the climate of fear that pervaded the nation? For all you readers my age, I ask that you remember that those halcyon years of our youth were dark and fearful years, and that electing McCain will not bring back the youthful spring to our steps, but rather the worst excesses of our past.

Please take care with shitting on us Yalies...Bush was part of the old LEGACY system which is nearly dead in the Ivies. It was still around as late as the early 80s but their admissions office has cut way way back on IDIOT legacies. My own child was on equal footing in '98 and her double legacy had very little to do with her admission. Most Yale alums are very embarrassed by Chimpy and what has happened. Grandpa Prescott Bush bought Yale a gym and that is how the coke head graduated. Basically that is over and done now. I know there are smart women reporters out there, but they aren't getting hired, or if they are they are black-listed if they color just a little bit outside of the wingnut lines. "I'm simply staggered that someone who could be president in an instant next January has been in her position for a week and cannot be asked questions by the press corps. Has this ever happened before in American history? Again: unbelievable. And terrifying."
I didn't watch one moment of the Republican convention on purpose, but I watched every moment of the Democratic convention on C-Span. However, I have managed to catch a few glimpses of the Goopers on the blogs. One that particularly disturbed me was when the protesters managed to crash the convention. I could not tell if it was only one or as many as three. (BTW, very brave IMHO.) The Republicans were there in the thousands, so vicious and chanting USA-USA-USA that if you sort of scrunched your ears half shut, you could imagine it being Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil. I know comparing the right wing Republicans--and is there any other kind these days?--to the Nazis is a cliche already, but you have to admit it works. By 2042 the white race will be a minority in this country, and I think that is what motivates this crowd, those who don't belong to the plutocratic top level that is. We are already a multi-culture society, and they just can't take it.

I'm really concerned about media influence especially during this campaign. Obama's raising money right and left including 6:1 from military members, yet the polls show Obama and McCain in a dead heat.
The media is now gushing over Palin, a blantantly unqualified religious extremist? How the hell have we come to this? And now the McCain campaign is pretty much instituting a media blackout for Palin. Will the msm protest? I think not.
It's common sense that Obama (and Kerry and Gore) should win. But the media continues to gush over the Republicans while demonizing everything "liberal" without scrutiny .I hope with everything I have that the populace's vote will count...but I fear that may be for show....
An important issue that I infrequently hear anything about is the fairness doctrine. This issue must be addressed. The last bastion is here...and how long will that last?

You need to look at the state by state polls, All Obama needs is to keep all the states Gore and Kerry had and add one more. He has that already in Iowa. George Bush won Iowa only by 0.7% in 2004. Obama is 9 points ahead of McCain in Iowa. Obama is going to take some western states which Bush had and neither Kerry nor Gore had: New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada, and a good chance at Montana and North Dakota. There are three southern states Obama has a good shot at: Virginia (a virtual tie right now), North Carolina (huge black population), and Florida. Ohio scares me, but right now it's competitive. Do not let the media and pollsters get you down. What's very crucial is not to fall for this crap and to get everyone who registered out to vote and to protect their votes.

The fall, if there has been one except in the minds of the libs, has been caused by the libs themselves, not George Bush. His policies have worked where they have been allowed to work, but the mindless rhetoric of Pelosi, Reid, and the others who have just run off for pure political gain, has limited the effectiveness. Had the dems been in charge we would have been in real trouble. Look at what has happened in the past two years - Congress at the lowest approval in history, gas prices through the roof thanks to the libs and the environmentalists, and the American people have been talked into an economic slowdown by doom and gloom liberal media. Even when the negatives belong to themselves, the libs turn around and blame Bush. They ought to take a good look at themselves.
I get what you are saying but some people will react with 'why should I care about this one firing' the thing is, it's a pattern and once you begin to see the pattern it gets pretty creepy. and this is just what we know about, there is no telling what is out there. people are probably lining up to tell about how Sarah screwed them over at this time or that time. apparently she's traded on looks and charm her entire life and that in itself is enough to piss people off...it's only going to get worse.

The negative ions released in a tropical storm are well worth the bounce in barometric pressure and the odd sinus headache that follows. If tin roofing is not blowing down the street, it's not much of a storm, but a little wind can be refreshing.Enjoy!
I kind of balked at this at first and then I started remembering how I felt around some of the 'fringe-y' militia-esque types when I lived in a small town in South Carolina. Some scary folks. Types you tried your best not to get to know because their 'nothing good' was just barely below the surface. It all kind of makes sense now...Palin has all the fringe lunatics in her pocket, and apparently that made normal, upstanding folks in AK pretty nervous, to say the least. I get it. I thought it was her typical Borderline Personality Disorder charm but I'm getting it was even stranger than that. What an interesting saga from the republicans, who are usually so boring and predictable.
"A blogger told me that he needs to back off the more sensitive Palin information because he's afraid of getting shot by some of the more fanatical, hard-core "Palin-bots." I've been told that when media representatives attempted to speak to several members of Palin's former church, one member wouldn't speak out of fear of his/her life and the other declined out of fear of potential treatment by law enforcement who are also members of the church."
This is so small-town in wilderness american, and Pentecostals are beyond creepy so, wow. Did Palin really think this stuff would fly at the national level?

A friend just sent this, something to throw back into their phony fundy faces:
Palin accused Obama of just being a community organizer: Jesus was a Community Organizer. Pilate was a Governor...!
And to add my 2 ¢ to the fray here, my take is that most actual Christians value community organizing, as it were, because in part that IS exactly what the Rabbi Joshua Ben Joseph actually did, that's what his followers at the time did, and taught others to do.The 'Christianity' thing just kinda got a tad overgrown since. I don't think it's blasphemous in any way to advocate emulating what Jesus actually did. It is about doing what he would do, not being who he was / is or comparing anybody to his being - there's a difference. I usually don't answer a troll, (a previous replier,) but I just could not help it.

I could not even watch the Democratic National Convention, but the Republican Convention was great! For all the talk that dems do about being for the poor, it was the Republicans who demonstrated their desire to help. (Hey, what about Barak Obama's brother in Kenya that lives on a dollar a day. I have heard conservatives willing to stand up and help, but not one dem or liberal.)
What about the economy? Is the answer bigger government and more taxes, or smaller government and less taxes so that the money can be put back into the economy? Rhetorical question! The answer is very clear. If you take money away from people and businesses and give it to the inefficient government we will have a stagnate economy like France. Even they are learning that it is conservative principles that work, not liberal tax and spend big government. And the policies of the past? If the mindless rhetoric from the democrats who had no solutions at all been turned to support, George Bush's policies were the right ones. Those he did get through the ignorance are working or were working fine until Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid took over the Congress. It was after they took over promising to fix everything that gas prices shot through the roof and consumer spending, fueled by the doom and gloom of the media telling everyone how bad it was when it was actually pretty good that has brought about the economic woes we are now experiencing. Even the mortgage problem was caused by the libs in Congress putting pressure on lending institutions (yes I acknowledge there was some greed also, Chris Dodd) to give people loans that would get them into houses they couldn't afford. I agree with John McCain. We need to cut spending, cut taxes, and come up with real solutions and get away from the mindless rhetoric that the libs have been putting out. Liberalism simply doesn't work. Conservatives are for real, common sense solutions.

You might want to get your facts straight....His HALF brother that lives in Kenya...here is a little blurb about him when reporters went to interview him:
-----"Though peaceful, life can be hard in this part of Kenya, one of the East African nation's poorest regions. Not only is there little infrastructure, but the region is prone to drought, which leaves many hungry.
Still, Malik Obama prefers the village to the fast-paced capital, Nairobi, where he grew up. He runs an electronics shop in a town a half-hour drive away, and works as a consultant in Washington for a few months each year." -------
Hardly destitute and living on $1/day. He chooses to live there because it brings him closer to his ancestral roots. He prefers living there where alot of people make $1/day but he chooses to help them using funds from his small electronics shop and his consulting business.
You know, my mother divorced my father when I was only 3 and I didn't know him. He never paid child support and I had very little contact with him. He remarried and had 3 kids. I have 3 half siblings. I don't know them. I know where they live, but they would be little more than strangers to me. My choice, and I'm certainly not going to support them or send them money. Barack has met a couple of times with his 1/2 brother and I think one came to the other's wedding but that was it. Nothing more, nothing less.
So as usual, the Right got their story, started on Drudge (you know Matt Drudge, the closeted homosexual, right?), and the story was picked up by Rush and Sean and all the other talking heads. But, as with most things they tell you, pretty much of a nonstory and they certainly left out the more important facts so that you could be outraged and appalled. And you fell for it.
I stopped reading your post after that first paragraph because I knew you hadn't done your research, as most often happens.
Move along now...I think Rush is on, or maybe Bill...

HUH ?......Not to mention the Constitution of the USA !
McCain is a total loser but we have seen Chimpy elected twice by the same crowd who back McCain. Don't forget Diebold and rigging of elections. Nothing is beneath this criminal conspiracy.
Our theocracy has become just as dangerous, to us, as those in the Middle East . Sad.

Oh my god, it's Deliverance, with Ma Kettle in charge.
Palin accused Obama of just being a community organizer:
Jesus was a Community Organizer.
CDS2, got a little chip there? Too much time? Lighten up.

I find it cathartic and beautiful, a bittersweet love song of America written from an inside and outside perspective. I really like the album and will buy it, a shameless plug but from the heart. Only Art and Orchids and Cats can counteract the shitstorm passing through our land now. It's my current refuge and palette cleanser from the nightmare unfunny joke of a colossal act of disrespect and projectile vomiting that is the Palin nomination et al.
