    wrong clip?
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Ummmm, that isn't the right clip... that's a "short" on one of the guys' dad dating another guy....
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Hello? That clip has nothing to do with Tina Fey as Palin.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Here's a link, but you've gotta watch a commercial first...
  • Savage8862 · 1 year ago
    John,

I think someone asked the other day for some "good news" on what Obama is doing instead of one McCain or Palin story after another. I must agree with that request. Scrolling down through the "current" posts, only one positive story on Obama, the fact that he raised $66 Million. I need to see more positive stories on Obama so that I won't continue to sit here in front of my computer and pull what little hair I have left. I need just a little more candy to sweeten the lies and ineundos spewed by the Republicans....please?
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Try CNN Politic Ticker or even (believe it or not) Politico. I have found some great stories about Obama on those sites.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
I'd actually rather see more negative stuff on McCain.

He's getting a free ride by putting that idiot out there on the point.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
I agree, Savage8862. And I also agree with others that the focus needs to be taken off Palin.

I do not think we should ignore McPalin. Rather it is a question of balance and giving a clearer picture of the Obama campaign.

At the same time, there are plenty other places to get our Obama fix. We can't find all of our news in one place.
  • Rab · 1 year ago
Here is a positive message: Obama/Biden win it in November along with major gains in both the house and senate...take it to the bank. To all Dems: Everyone who has spine lend some of it to the ones that don't.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Rab, until now I have deferred to those who are more knowledgeable than I about campaign strategies, but it seems we, we liberals, are losing sight of basic facts, such as Obama's demonstrated abilities in successfully steering his campaign through very troubled (Hillary/establishment) waters and his fund raising and the awesome #s who turn out to hear his every speech. There is plenty of evidence that the NEOCon barrage does not represent the views of the majority of America, yet too many seem determined to give them a majority voice and in that process diminish the enthusiasm for Obama. While it is important that we call out the McPalin lies, it seems equally important that we not lose excitement for our dynamic candidate.

And while I am on a roll...

Everyone! Stop already with the ignorant America meme! You are giving majority status to a sub-culture and insulting the country in the process.

    *ducking*
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Agree with not reinforcing the "ignorant American" meme.... while is it true for a part of the society, the Repubs have successfully, over the last 8 years, convinced everyone that 1/2 of American's are morons... doesn't matter which side of the half you're on, you're bound to think the other half is stupid because of ___________________ (insert justification).

That is their divide and conquer strategy, keep the "little people" fighting over wedge issues instead of finding common causes. And it's worked.

I think Obama's campaign is playing to the right instinct, empowering everyone to THINK. He's telling everyone that he thinks they are smart enough to make the right decision based on the facts. His -- "They must think you're stupid" line of attack is one that will resonate with folks, because it's been obvious for years that the Repubs DO think we're stupid and people are sick of it.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Yes, sukabi1! And thank you for saying this so well.

Most of the informed on this blog agree, to one degree or another, that a coup d'etat took place in 2000, one a long time in the making, and that it had the backing or the acquiescence of both the Supreme Court and the Congress and the MSM. Likewise, most seem to understand their "divide and conquer" strategy. Yet we often throw this supremely-important knowledge away as we repeat many of the NEO (both NeoCon and NEODem) talkingpoints.

Stop it! Getting Obama elected is only the first step. Once we change the administration, then the real fighting begins. Until then we must regain our dignity and wrestle the mic away from those who stole our country and assert our dominance over them, and we will not be able to do that if we keep repeating their message.

This above all: It is US we need to change!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Actually, I still believe that Obama/Biden WILL win come November...and not by a smidgen either.
  • eebanks · 1 year ago
I believe I've had enough of Sarah Palin. We need to stop focusing on her. People who like her will continue to like her and vice-versa. The Rovian tactics are working and the Swiftboating will be starting in ernest so let's get our hearts and minds behind the candidate of our choice and stop falling for the same old tricks.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    OT

I urge you all to read this story from Editor and Publisher. Swing state newspapers are going to include a free DVD about Muslims and terror. I would love to know who the group is that paid for this BUT more importantly IF I get one of these DVD's here in Denver I will cancel my Denver Post subscription.

    http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/ar...

This link from Raw Story states which papers are targeted to receive the DVD. Notice, it is all the swing states.

  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
I read the Swiftboaters were gearing up for some major attacks.

    I guess this is it.

    They're nothing but terrorists themselves.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I find it frightening the lengths to which these Republican Swiftboaters will go to to win an election.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
i feel some major backlash coming on.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
They get rich guys funding them.

It's just a business decision for them. Obama will raise their taxes, McCain will cut them again.

The fact that McCain will destroy Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and employer-based health insurance only makes it a sweeter deal for them, 'cos they don't like paying into those programs anyway.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
It seems like Gannet owns most of these newspapers.

  • OlderButWiser · 1 year ago
OK, in regard to the Raw Story report on that scurrilous DVD put out by the hard rightwingers, the Charlotte Observer is targeted. I just may pick one up later to see if it's in there, but the CO is a McClatchy paper...would they allow it? After all, it's not advertising per se, it's propaganda, isn't it?

BTW, Tina Fey really nailed Palin last night. : )
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    Tina rocks!

"I can see Russia from my house!"
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Most papers don't refuse advertising unless it's really over the line.

I'm not sure if they'd view this as over the line or not, but the fact that these clowns will probably sue any paper that refuses their propaganda probably tips it in.

Only possible good thing I can see is that nobody except a kook is going to play their stupid DVD anyway. (I know the junk that falls out of my Sunday paper goes straight into the garbage.)
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I was gone a few days last week and I don't know if it was in the newspaper. It is not in today's. There are two papers here, the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain Times. The RMT is definitely pro Republican, the editor makes no bones about this, but the article said the Denver Post.

If you read the Editor and Publisher's article they talked with the NYT and basically were told it was paid advertising.
  • OlderButWiser · 1 year ago
Yeah, it may have been "paid advertising" but do the yahoos know that? I rather doubt it.
  • OlderButWiser · 1 year ago
And a headline I caught on Yahoo (but didn't read the story, dammit) says Greenspan says no to McCain "tax cuts." Doesn't that just muddy the waters from a guy who didn't see the housing bubble creation or the subsequent burst?

And Barclays declined to get involved with Lehman. I think Lehman is going to be seen as toxic by investors and the move will be on to get the govt to do something about them. (And why doesn't the MSM talk about the fox in the henhouse, Henry Paulson, former CEO of Goldman Sachs?)

Why aren't the "smartest guys in the room" (sic) made to be responsible for their failures? They talk about "moral hazards" but do nothing about it...they're just thieves in Brooks Brothers suits.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, it's currently the top story on Huffpo.

The thought of Greenspan as a fiscal conservative makes me laugh, but I'll take help where ever we can get it these days.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
The article went on to report that Greenspan feels there's another round of restructuring about to happen. Predictable, of course, but messy times haven't really got started yet. Greenspan thinks that the government is not likely to offer much more bailout. Or so the report said. Everything is about to change to the extent that nothing will be like it was. Maybe that already happened, I don't know.
Welcome back, by the way. I hope you had a relaxing sabbatical.
  • OlderButWiser · 1 year ago
Thanks, guy, just couldn't help myself from using my neighbor's computer! Had some more surgery, nothing heavy, and still haven't put my own computer online back online yet.

Missed all of you! And had to visit.

BTW, I thought of Grant when Ike hit Houston...hope he's OK. Miss him, too.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Here's a link to the story and video. Even Greenspan says it's the worst economy in 100 years...(sigh)

Worse than the Great Depression? How is that possible?
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
    we're about to find out.
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
Three people today have sent me the link to this story. That does not happen alot.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Perhaps because this is AN ALARM of gigantic proportions. Hopefully we can put Obama in office and he can help right this country of the horrors embedded within, as a result of the GOP's policies
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I suggest you read the article and follow the links, as it is not a quick nor easy answer.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
you know what bugs me about these "bring in the "expert" Greenspan to talk about this.... his cheerleading for and pushing Adjustable Rate Mortgages for everyone in 2002 - 2003, with the rationale that people were wasting their money on fixed rate mortgages... and they should take advantage of "break" they'd get with ARM's... He should be answering questions about his role in helping to create this mess.
  • cscottinseattle · 1 year ago
I got mine off Daily Motion. It posts better than the NBC code for some reason. Go here http://www.billinexile.com/?p=5425 and take the video off my site.

C-Span played the SNL clip this morning Tina Fey was great, she WAS Palin. And she didn't say anything that Palin hasn't, and that's scary.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Although Palin wouldn't acknowledge the truth that Wasilla is the Meth Capital of Alaska.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Tina Fey knows the issues better than Palin? Heck, Tina Fey's BABY (the one featured in the AmEx ad) knows more than Palin.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
I'm ready for the national stage too. I have strong international relations experience, arguably stronger than Sarah Palin's.

For example, I frequently play CHINESE checkers. I love FRENCH dip sandwiches. I use RUSSIAN dressing on my salads. I like GERMAN mustard. I eat HUNGARIAN goulash, and I eat CANADIAN bacon.

I just don't like playing RUSSIAN roulette with the selection of an American President and Vice President.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Rednecks think everything you mentioned disqualifies you for being president. They want someone who don't know nophin about nophin and want to bomb, bomb, bomb and kill, kill, kill all dem damn furiners.

A little more on the Clarion Fund and Geoffrey Ross, Communications Director. Very little public info regarding this organization, as indicated, "shadowy" (I just get this kind of gut feeling of Ari Fleischer, Kay Bailery Hutchison tie-in - you know, she had that Kerry swift-boat sponsorship).

Speaking of humor, the funniest thing I heard today was Giuliani say that Barack Obama is even more liberal than Chuck Schumer. Rudy is such an asswipe.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
If any folks were wondering, what the word FLERG meant (after Hillary said she was being called just that), here is the definition according to the Urban Dictionary:

    Flerg
1.) The state of a man's penis when it is not erect.
    2.) The foreskin of a man's penis.
"man, that cold water sure gave me a flerg"
"aww dude, that bunk chick turned my wood to a flerg"
    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=...

(Apologies to anyone offended by the word "penis" or the definition, it was not a provocation, but an undefined reference within the SNL skit).
