When I was a kid, my pediatricians had multiple little hedgehog dolls on their desks, dressed in little outfits.

    (Maybe they were Swedish?)

I'd love to have one as a pet, but I'm afraid the cats would eat it, and that would be a hell of a hairball to throw up.

The hedgehogs of Visby, I saw them too when I was there. Wonderful shot with the 'V' in the cobblestones.

I love hedgehogs. They're beloved throughout northern Europe and Russia. People there feel very maternal (and paternal) towards them. Good thing they're not native to this country where the effing redneck hicks would probably delight in shooting them.

I guess that was my happy 4th message.

Yeah, they look yummy. Just kidding -- they are very cute. I used to see them when I live in Luxembourg.

So cute! However, hedgehogs do not adapt well to enclosed environments and thus are not good as pets. Some places in the US & Canada make it illegal to keep them as pets. They are great for natural pest control in your garden, since they eat all the pests that wreak havoc on gardens. Just don't put chemicals on your garden if hedgehogs are out there eating the insects, etc.

Thank you so much, John. The adorable hedgehog made my day.

In my garden I seem to have several hedgehogs. They come out at night to eat the dry food I leave out for stray cats. They seem to really like it as they come back regularly for more.
A sure sign of there movements are the little droppings they leave behind on the garden path.

    I find them irresistibly cute.
