AMERICAblog: Saudi girl, eight, married off to 58-year-old is denied divorce

  • SCLiberal · 11 months ago
"The father agreed to marry off his daughter for a dowry of 30,000 riyals (£5,400) as he was facing financial problems. "

Well, that's one way to get out of debt. I'll be glad when the human race outgrows slavery.

such a nice solution to financial troubles... where's america's virgin daughter now that we need her to marry off to some rich guy?
  • MikeinSanJo · 11 months ago
If you hurry, you can still take your children under 18 to Nebraska and drop 'em off at a hospital or fire house.

They may have changed that with this last election.

It's part of Islam tradition, you know, even Mohammed married a 9 yr old...part of the domination of women in that culture, fundie, cruel, and stifling. The selling of girls by parents is practiced in other cultures as well, many to prostitution. A cruel slavery is what I call it, a barbarian practice. Many, many women worldwide have no freedom of choice in their own sexuality and personhood.

And the Saudis gave Condi $160,000 in jewelry as well. Isn't that called bribery? What did they get in return?

By law, those gifts must be turned into the archives. Key phrase..."by law".

I worked in the Middle East for a lot of years. The rumors surrounding the behaviors of the Royal families in SA and Kuwait in relation to underage girls were very similar to this story....but without the dowry.

The Saudi have much to teach Christian America about the "protection of marriage."
  • Laura_in_CC · 11 months ago
But ... isn't this just TRADITIONAL marriage? After all, it's a male and a female -- even if the female hasn't yet reached an age of being capable of forming criminal intent let alone consent! The fundies here probably think this is okey-dokey because, after all, it helps program girls to accept their lot in life and makes for more malleable wives in the future.

Mmmm now let's see....ah yes...they have OIL. Right. Okay first we sue the shit outta Chevron for burying the NiMH battery, which would give a small electric car a 200 mile range; next we give every American a huge tax credit for buying one; next we connect any bailout money to this idea; and then we sit back and say fuck you to the Arabs who do shit like this. And don't start that shit about "I can't live with an electric car."....some people cannot. But there are far too many of us driving Hummers in the burbs to drop off a video or get a gallon of milk. Sorry, charlie, we need to make some sacrifices.

Oh, get off your high horses. Who among us HASN'T looked at a hot 8 year old and said to himself "Oh, I'll pay for her, and I will own her, but I won't use her yet, let her blossom, like a fine wine, and just make sure she knows who's boss before she hits puberty, so I can use her like a sex slave, since after all, that's what she is?" Y'all just frontin, yo.
  • Laura_in_CC · 11 months ago
Slappy, kind of brings on me an image of a circle of men surrounding the little girl, salivating as they wait for her breasts to sprout -- sort of like a pack of wolves wait to attack their prey.

Or the legions of young men who had countdown clocks ticking off the nanoseconds before the Olsen twins turned "legal." Which, as we can all now see, was time well spent, because the moment they did turn 18, they became America's Concubines, and every male (and accommodating female) can look forward to their moment of sexual bliss twixt the twins, if they haven't experienced it already (I believe the ladies are still on the "C's," and I think it was a big mistake to service America alphabetically rather than start on one coast and work their way across the country, but I guess they can afford all the airfare...)

Saudis and those charming Mormons.......the Saudis may not consummate but the LDS sure as hell would not pass that up ! The girl would be pregnant by now. Utah...Saudi Arabia. Nice. The American right and "christians? rail against Islam..yet nothing about the LDS.

Funny, as I looked at that website you listed the first word that jumped out at me was "prick"
  • teatime · 11 months ago
I see what you mean! What jumped out at me was as if it said "dum prick warren" tee hee.

Lil baby allah and Rick Warren approve of this 5,000 year old marriage tradition. But two guys kissing really pisses off lil baby allah AND lil baby jesus. Nothing wrong here.

Sarah Palin's Church, the Assemblies of God are vigorously fighting to bring that kind of Biblical Law to America to supercede the US Constitution.
  • bosdav · 11 months ago
Wow. I had no idea the Saudis were Mormon!!!
  • caerbannog · 11 months ago
Well, at least we know that it isn't a same-sex marriage!
  • MikeinSanJo · 11 months ago
    Hmmm....

The "church" seems oddly silent regarding this institutionalized pedophilia. cathlicks + muslims. When it comes to "gawd" they're bitter enemies, but when it comes to gettin' some... not so much.

    But apparently Saudis like girls.

    Who'da thunk it?

Read an article about this a couple days ago. Don't remember which news site -- seems to me it may have been International Herald Tribune from England. The girl's mother is divorced from the father and had sought to have the agreement invalidated by the Court System in Saudi Arabia. They refused to do so.
  • gwpriester · 11 months ago
I am reassured to hear the marriage has not been consummated.

Probably because the husband, who must have a penchant for younger women, must have erectile dysfunction.

But nobody ever said the Saudi's were the most enlightened people in the world.
  • EmGD · 11 months ago
Of course eight year olds shouldn't be allowed to divorce, then it ruins the sanctity of marrying an eight year old. It's sensible rulings like this, along with allowing pre-schoolers to marry pensioners, that makes me so glad we grovel to these paragons of morality.

The problem is that at puberty the marriage will be consummated - as I understand it.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 11 months ago
    Sic Rick Warren on 'em.
