    Oh those imperial Rethuglicons:

    AP
    Published: November 18, 2008

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Sen. Saxby Chambliss is fighting a subpoena by a Savannah attorney who’s suing Imperial Sugar on behalf of victims of the deadly February explosion at its Georgia refinery.

Chambliss spokeswoman Michelle Hitt Grasso says federal law and Senate rules make the Republican senator immune from giving a deposition in the case.

Meanwhile, Democrats fighting to take back Chambliss’ Senate seat in a Dec. 2 runoff have posted an online ad that accuses Chambliss of trying to duck the subpoena. Chambliss faces a rematch with Democrat Jim Martin.

Savannah attorney Mark Tate says he wants to question Chambliss about whether Imperial Sugar executives enlisted him to help the company avoid blame. Chambliss sharply criticized a company whistleblower at a Senate hearing in July.

Grasso says the accusations are politically motivated.

I'm surprised Chambliss didn't accuse the whistleblower of violent, intimidation tactics and persecution of the big company. After all, that seems to be standard Republican meme if anyone speaks up about their corruption.

If Bill Clinton can be forced by the Supreme Court to give a deposition in Paula Jones' nuisance suit--after all, the Supremes said it wouldn't take THAT much time out of his routine--then Chambless can very well sit for a depo.

Thanks for posting this. Too many people don't really get how deep in the Muck Saxby really is.

Saxby Chambliss revealed his true character in his race with Sen. Max Cleland who he dared to call a coward and a traitor. The nerve and stupidity from a man who never served his country and is corrupt as they come. Perhaps the voters of Georgia will show him the Ted Steven's door to jail.

John, for those of us who read AmercaBlog at work - and whose company firewalls prevent viewing videos from YouTube and other sources, could you *please* put at least a short description of the videos you post?

    Thanks!

What's with the circa-1950s old-timer with the trillby and bowtie in the background?
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Because it's still the 1950s in GA...

It's interesting to watch who is behaving badly, as if threatened by legal process.

Gosh. Poor old George Bush. He's having a rough time, isn't he? He has the worst presidential approval ratings in US history. Under his stalwart leadership, the country has taken an economic, social and emotional nosedive. His own party attempts to distance themselves from him on a daily basis. And to top it all off, can you believe that nobody wants to buy his memoirs? To add insult to injury, publishers are courting his wife with fervour, each clamouring for the opportunity to bid on her memoirs. It has to burn at least a little, right?

    Good. THANKS for posting this.

The man has been subpeoned in this case, and has said he doesn't need to respond because he is a senator... Saxby has tried to pressure the Victims into NOT filing lawsuits - Even after a whistlbwer said this WOULD happen...

He also went after the Whistlblower in this case. Saxby is deep in the mess of Imperial Sugar. . .

same old tactics from the Republicans. Thankfully they are going the way of the dinosaur--extinction. Not that we don't have a few relics in the Dem side, Steyn Hoyer, to name one. They are crooked, and totally on the payroll of all the corporations. Good riddance. I want to see a collage of all the convicted motherfuckers from Scooter to Chambliss to Delay, to Cunningham, Dusty Foggo and on and on.

Hee hee hee, Saxby "Five Deferments for my Football Knee" Chambliss didn't take that well, did he? I called Jim Martin's office after donating via ActBlue and after affirming my support, and asked for a bumper sticker to put on my car to swan around D.C. I got the same response as from the El Tinklenberg folks: "Gosh! Gee! Really? Thanks so much! Really! We're all out! I'll try to find you one!"

Maybe we should bombard his Senate office with envelopes containing individual restaurant-style sugar packets--so they won't think it's anthrax--along with a strongly worded request/demand to testify?
