I'm thinking that if Clinton COULD win, there'd be no investigation into the election of 2000.

Looks like we're turning this country into the perfect Bush/Clinton Democracy...modeled after China.
  • Stevious · 1 year ago
Wow. Didn't see anything like that in Williamson County, but maybe it says something about the "Democrats" in Dallas.
  • Andyz · 1 year ago
I was for Hillary. Now I can;t stand her. Enough is enough. Her political ambitions to run in what's going to be left of the democratic party in 2012 are going to destroy the nation. 3 months ago I wouldn't have believed I'd be writing something like this, but I'm fed up and angry. It's all about her, not the nation.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
You are right Andyz...it is all about her.

I read something last week that said the amount of money being used because of the long primary season hurts other Dem candidates that will be running for election in November.

I'd vote for Hellary if she'd swear to do an investigation into this Bullshit:

It terrifies me to think of this woman as president. She'll be just as evil and arrogant as Bush.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
And so we have this vicious cycle in which the longer Hillary's odds become the further she has to up the ante to keep her candidacy credible -- in other words, the more forcefully she has to question the legitimacy of the nomination process and the more aggressively she has to push the idea that Obama can't win the general election or is not qualified to be president. (For example, the argument that the Clinton campaign now appears to be making to funders and the press is that Obama literally cannot win the general. And thus she's not only entitled but actually obligated to do whatever it takes to ensure that he's not the nominee.) Without making real progress on one of those fronts, the premise of the candidacy just becomes too difficult to sustain. And when that fails just throw up lots of nonsense about the popular vote in primary states or blue states or significant states, or whatever.

Andyz -I always thought Hillary Clinton was a very smart good person. Now I am so disgusted. Mostly because she thinks I'm an idiot. When she came out and said she won Florida and Michigan, I couldn't believe it. I knew the rules, she knew the rules. She didn't win these states. There were no races there. Why did she think she could lie to us?
  • onceVM · 1 year ago
Did anyone here what Mario Cuomo said on CNN awhile ago?..Speaking on a solution to this primary problem he suggested that Clinton and Obama should negotiate and choose a front runner and a VP between the two..(both on the same ticket) but then he said something to the effect of how can they expect to negotiate with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad if they cant negotiate with each other..
and then laughed and said.."and one wants to without any stipulation".(refering to Obama)
Talk about providing republican talking points..

exactly.... was reading a post on another blog... one of the posters called Obama a 'cheater' because, as they put it, "hillary would be in the lead if they'd count Michigan".

excuse me? WHY would you count a primary where all of the people running took their names off the ballot EXCEPT hillary??

how is THAT fair? I guess it didn't bother the clinton supporter though.

I think it sucks that Florida and Michigan look like they're being disenfranchised... but, WTF?

It's time for Sen. Hillary Clinton to draw her secret weapon again:

    The late-night comedy circuit.

Clinton will appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday -- her third appearance on NBC's late-night comedy show, the producers say.

Clinton, who has used appearances such as these to great effect, made a splash on the network's Saturday Night Live at a time when her campaign needed a boost.

This is another one of those times.

We don't need a continuation of the dynasty.
Or as Dave of the Jungle sort of put it,. If I may...something to the effect of, "We don't need any more lying sacks of shit."

Why would you vote for a DYNASTY if what you want is CHANGE?

I have never understood that and there has never been a Hillbot stupid enough to try and answer it!
Which, I suppose, puts them one dingleberry higher inside the ring of the toilet-bowl than Bush.

Sorry but, I want more from my president than that...

Florida and Michigan disenranchised themselves by running a rogue attack on the system.

We can fix the system for real with OBAMA.
Because, HILLARY sure as hell won't fix anything, save nominating an additional 10,000, LIFETIME appointed Super-Delegates, to ASSURE, ONCE AND FOR ALL, the continuation of the Neo-con Dynasty.

There will be NO MORE POLITICAL SNIPER-FIRE ALLOWED from the American Public or it's Progressive representatives within the Democrat Party
  • Rab · 1 year ago
I ran into Hillbots at my caucus in Minnesota and they were rude. They were outnumbered two to one and couldn't handle the challenge. My sub-caucus was Obama/Franken. I had this one older female hillbot give me this page out of a magazine (I can't recall which one) that talked about Obama not respecting marriage and other assorted bullshit. I tried to be polite and she finally went away but Hillary's supporters have gotta look in the mirror and do a gut check. Is it worth your own self-worth to support someone like her? Honestly? No it's not. C'mon Hillbots and end this parade of crap.
  • KingCranky · 1 year ago
The Clinton and Obama camps are definitely fuming at each other. Here in El Paso, the progressive radio station's-KHRO AM 1650-talk shows were buzzing about the caucuses, and there was on-air sniping between both groups.

I'm not crazy about either of the Dems candidates, but they and their supporters need to keep hitting McCain even harder than Obama, Clinton and their surrogates/supporters hit each other.

If the Democratic candidates (for Pres & Congress) pledge to go after those who engineered and implemented the disastrous Iraq invasion & occupation, and do the same, legally & politically, with credible charges of war profiteering, if Obama or Clinton makes the same pledge to legally and politically investigate this Administration and any claims of immunity it may have offered the telecom industry for warrantlessly spying on and datamining their own customers, then the Democratic candidate will get my vote in November.

Add to that, a pledge to try and expand the number of seats on the US Supreme Court, the anti-consumer, neocon friendly cabal that holds the majority there is clearly out of touch with the public-when it comes to taking the side of big money over consumers and patients-time after time, and therefore must be broken up if at all possible.

And those conditions are just for starters.

I would hope the Obama and Clinton supporters would want the same thing so many of us libs want, namely, the long-term political and legal crushing of those who have driven our country into the ground since W first slithered into office via unelected, activist judges. The neocon mindset, their ability to wield enormous political power far out of proportion to their numerical minority status, must be politically and socially punished so harshly that these rat-bastards and their sick ideology can't make any kind of comeback for decades, if ever.

Nixon had an interesting enemies list. It'd be fun to have a peek at Hillary's list. She's on mine, why shouldn't I be on hers? And to think there are people who wonder why Ralph runs . . . . HIllary's a good reason to vote for Ralph. Stay tuned, she has lots more ornery corners to turn.

The story has a lack of something. Clinton long ago lost my respect with her underhanded methods. However, find it very hard to believe that her supporters would also stoop so low. I can understand trusted campaign workers going as far as this, but ordinary citizens who support Clinton. They support her because they believe in her character, honor and ability to be a good, honorable president. Why would they dishonor her by using dirty, underhanded, desperate, and racist tactics? Begins to call into question all the other stories told here about how evil, wicked, dishonest and Bush-like she is.

I am curious about her seemingly new friendship with Richard Mellon Scaife, the PA. publisher that she claimed was the originator of that vast rightwing consperacy and accused the Clintons of murdering Vince Foster..
Funny how Scaife likes her now..Politics make strange bedfellows indeed..
Makes me wonder though..Scaife would be a good ally in bringing down someone..Hillary claimed that she is better prepared to fight the republican attack machine but she did'nt mension that it was by joining it.

Sad is an understatement. The fervent republicans in my midwestern state are not so quietly laughing at this mess and predicting a McCain presidency because of this.

I believe in democracy, compromise and "A Healthy Debate," as my republican friend summed up our evening. However, I don't believe my eyes and ears day, after day, after day that I see the democratic party destroying itself over pride, ego and nothing short of entitlement. It doesn't take a high IQ to see the damage being set in motion. Is the democratic party so weak that they can not prevent this? This is becoming appalling, at the least.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I'm so with "Patriot" when he writes about his Republican friend stating, "However, I don't believe my eyes and ears day, after day, after day that I see the democratic party destroying itself over pride, ego and nothing short of entitlement."

I believe its a lack of discipline and toughness, if anything. We don't have leaders willing to knock heads together. I with those who believe Hillary is wanting to either win or destroy Obama to run in 2012. This option should be nixed immediately. There should be no consolation prize this time. I believe the whole, "Oh well, we'll win in four years..." is what got us the willingness of our Democratic leaders to accept a Bush (P) -Residency in 2000. Its why the congressional black caucus was so right in stating, "They keep telling us to just get over it... our nation will never just 'get over this.'" How prescient the black caucus sounds today...
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Doesn't this whole story about Clinton camp putting up road blocks by challenging delegates stand in stark contrast to Bill Clinton chiding those who are calling for HIllary to step aside by saying all the voices need to be heard? They can't have it both ways. Either they want to hear Democratic voices or they want to hold them hostage and hope they give up and go home without voting for Obama...
  • SINGING_TROLL · 1 year ago
It bothers me that Howard Dean, who I LOVE, has fucked this up so badly. He needs to just take the line that this was the deal, we'll fix it when Obama becomes President and we get ready for his re-election in 2012!

Not now Hillary. Next time, new rules. This time? The rules we all agreed to.

  • Patriot · 1 year ago
The Clintons have grown as cynical as anyone can come. And, understandably so. It comes with the territory. This is another very good reason they should step aside and allow a new delagation to govern in Washington. This is also why we elect frequently so, that one particular party, family or dynasty can rule without challenge, debate or CHANGE.

It makes me smile when Obama supporters can only attack Hillary by name-calling and the all-important-issue: fashion.
I smile because they prove that she is a wise woman of substance whose credible experience, solid plans, vision and accomplishments can't rationally be challenged and that Obama obviously only offers them feel-good, fluffy stuff.
It also proves that Obama would get chewed up and spit out if the Republicans would come after him.

    Dear John,

Lisa's mom must be an election neophyte. Regardless of party or candidate, that is a common side-effect of no one trusting anyone. I've seen it happen on all sides of the aisle and party.

Blaming it on a candidate is ludicrous. Every volunteer comes with plusses and negatives.

May not be nice or right; but neither is blaming the candidate who wasn't there.

It would be like me judging Obama by the posts made here which would lead one to believe that Obama is a misogynistic, simpleton with bad manners instead of the nice guy that he is. A nice guy, but not a presidential material - at least not yet.

I was at the Texas district 15 (houston) convention on Saturday, which was 3 to one for Obama. A handful of Hillary supporters delayed the caucus for hours by arguing over 15 delegates. I think they're strategy was to 1. Drag the caucus out so people would leave 2. To add on Hillary delegates not signed in and contest Obama delegates in close pricincts 3. Since Obama was going to win big in this district, Clinton Lawers will try to get the obama delegates thrown out at the state convention by saying that the rule were not followed. Please watch the youtube videos on the link below where the Clinton shill at the convention even says this is what they will do (following the rules will only be important in Obama districts I'm sure). This particular Clinton supporter, my wife and I first saw at a Clinton rally and named her "Militant Clinton Supporter" because she was trying to get the crowd to chant Hillary slogans but came across as very angry ("You BETTERRR say Clinton when I say Hillary, or else") Even my wife's friend, who is a strong Hillary supporter was embarrassed that she was representing her candidate. We joked about it for several weeks after that and figured we'd never see her again. Well sure enough she is at our district convention trying to make trouble and if you want to be annoyed and see how awful it was, she put videos of herself being a jerk to the people running the convention and to an Obama volunteer who calls her on accident, up on youtube( http://www.youtube.com/user/kimfrederi ) Of course she is a coward and turned off comments after she got her friends to post pro Hillary propaganda, including one post calling an Obama supporters obese. She is rude and cusses at the Secretary of the Convention. I'll attempt a link below. Please watch to see how desperate they are becoming.

I was a delegate in moderate sized Williamson County on Saturday. We did not leave the venue until the meeting was closed after midnight, making it a good 16 hour day.

When we arrived in the morning the disorganization and incompetence was apparent. The halls were jammed shoulder to shoulder. The lines snaked through several halls of the high school, outside, around the corner and into the parking lot. The credentials check-in computers and printers were not working properly and there seemed to be no plan to deal with what had been predicted to be a record turnout.

As a result of this mess, the first vote to elect the chair for the day did not occur until lunch time. Things went down hill from there. Multiple questionable vote tallies, frivolous motions and clerical delays later, we finally caucused to elect our precinct delegates and submitted those votes around 6:00 pm.

Having already been a long grueling day, the vast majority of the delegates went home, thinking their work was done. However, our group knew the results needed to be ratified. Not only that, the percentage of Hillary delegates in the mix seemed to be growing.

This was of particular interest because we had heard rumors that a Clinton strategy packet had been delivered to an Obama delegate by mistake... outlining the ways that they could slow the check-in process and introduce stalling tactics, like calling for standing votes even when voice votes were conclusive. The object appeared to be to drag out the proceedings in any way possible and empty the hall of Obama delegates so they could control the outcome.

We waited another 2 hours for the committee to supposedly finish their work of balancing delegates. It must have been about 8:30 when the chairman came out and announced that we could all take 90 minutes for dinner and we would then resume the meeting.

Fearing that we could lose quorum or get locked out if we left, many of us stayed and ordered food to be delivered. These events were so bizarre that the Obama delegates started making phone calls for their fellow delegates to return from home so that we could combat whatever might happen. Others went onto the internet to research our legal rights.

Fortunately when the Chair had returned from dinner, we had done our homework and were ready for any tactic they may have been planning. The one motion that stood out was a motion to recommend to the Texas Dem party that we do away with the caucus portion of the Texas delegate equation. This may well be another item for the kitchen sink, especially since Clinton won the popular vote in Texas, but lost the delegate count due to the overwhelming turnout by Obama supporters at the caucuses... nearly 2 to 1 statewide. That motion was so overwhelmingly voted down in a voice vote that I think we took the wind out of their sails. Since we were united and prepared, I believe the Clinton delegates backed down at that point.

The night ended with kind of a whimper, well after midnight. But those of us who stayed to see it through, although exhausted, felt good about representing for Obama and not allowing the sleazy tactics to work in our county.

My daughter and son-in-law were delegates to their Texas County Convention this week end and their experience was grueling as well. They reported to me that many attendees were unable to get credentialed because their precinct captains had failed to submit their lists of expected attendees. In other words, attendees from some precincts, regardless of who they were supporting, had to run the gauntlet of the credentials committee because of the failure of their precinct captain to do their job: submit a list of registered delegates. The process was very difficult and grueling because four years ago only 500 people showed up while this year 5,000 people showed up for their convention in Harris County (Houston).

Let's not be so quick to ascribe antics to supporters of one candidate or the other and lets be sure of what we're reporting. There's a huge difference between unscrupulous tactics and an overwhelmed system. Let's face it the number of people involved in this primary season is unprecedented and we need to keep all of them involved through the election in November. If we succumb to savaging one another we risk turning people off to the process. Instead let's work to find an easier way to nominate the very best candidate so that in four years we won't have to go through this.

I voted for Obama because I recognize that we have to find a better way to do government and because I believe he offers that potential. If he is elected our president, and if I am right, he can have a powerful influence on the way our candidate is nominated the next time around.

Let's chill out, to quote a former president, and behave like grown ups until we have a candidate. Then let's turn our attention to beating John McCain in November because if you think we have problems now, just wait until we have a President McCain.

The stories out of TX are very sad. Like others I wonder why the MSM continues to wear blinders.

I was a Texas delegate too. My report is available on my thread to anyone interested. Of course I don't expect much positive feedback and in fact have so far only gotten demerits. That's pretty much par for the course here. Nobody cares about the truth. How ironic. But I was there. I was the precinct captain by acclaimation meaning I had the support of the Obama folks as well.

Lisa's second hand report tries to blame Clinton for everything that went wrong. Rest assured were lots of Clinton folks blaming the Obamites for the same thing.

I got to my convention a little after 8:30am and left for home a little before 11pm. I stood in line for more than four hours. While in line I saw an ambulance pull up and medics rush into the convention hall. Moments later an African American man was wheeled out on a gurney and presumably taken to the hospital. When I finally got to the signup table they couldn't find my name on the printed list so I was marked "provisional". I later went to a table that had laptops and had them run my name on one of the computers. Sure enough I was listed. But I still had to get cleared with the credentials committee in order to join my caucus a process which took another three hours.. Obviously, this was all the fault of Barack Obama and John Aravosis. Who else could hatch such a dastardly plot?

I honestly used to respect the reporting here quite a lot. Not anymore.

hat's one less voter for Hillary. Convicted felons are not allowed to vote.
Really? I was figuring in the Child Molester vote going for Hillery. Without NAMBLA's votes She is TOAST!
    GO OBOMA!
    ROFL.
McCain has the other NAMBLA . That would be the one I am a member of.

vkobaya - I am no longer shocked to hear these stories about her supporters. I've run in to them far too often in Colorado - at our caucus, and then our county convention. In fact, at our caucus they did close the doors early, ignore the county dem party caucus rules, and became vocally combative / threatening at two different points during our caucus. It was bad enough that several people switched from Clinton to Obama after the unofficial straw poll, and in a room of over 100 people you KNOW getting up and walking to the other side of the room (from the smaller, angry group) was no easy feat!

I didn't walk away from our county convention blaming the Clinton campaign for the hold up, and we ran at least 5 hours behind. However, I did witness MANY Clinton supporters either trying to sway Obama delegates, challenging alternates, or comiserating with Obama delegates who were upset about the delay and saying things such as, "yeah, this is b.s. I think I'll leave too." I watched two different Clinton supporters walk out to the parking lots with Obama delegates after saying they were leaving, only to return within 5 to 10 minutes. The Clinton supporters lined the entry way in a semi circle with placards and huge signs in hand, chanting loudly. I don't begrudge their right to support their candidate, but it was confusing and people couldn't see where to go to check in. Twice the county dem party asked them to move and clear the entry way, but they refused. I witnessed blatant misdirection when delegates were obvious Obama supporters. That is barely the tip of the iceberg. It went so drastically downhill from there, and a number of delegates and alternates on BOTH sides left with information to file complaints about the actions of the Clinton campaign volunteers present that day.

I won't speak to the ethics behind a delegate switching votes at a county convention - personally I struggle with the idea that it's okay and felt livid that the Clinton camp was trying to sway delegates to do so, but again that's my personal struggle. That said, I do know that in my precinct one of the Clinton delegates was SO disgusted by the Clinton supporters, and conversely impressed with the Obama campaign's approach to the candidate speeches, that he switched his vote. Right or wrong, that speaks VOLUMES.

The commenters that question the initial author's blame of the Clinton campaign baffle me. Since Nevada we've had access to photocopies of Clinton campaign volunteer instructions sheets. Those rule sheets are pretty self explanatory and point to this type of activity (swaying votes, filling volunteer spots and controlling meetings, delay tactics etc.) not just being condoned but encouraged. The sheet sent out in Nevada had a line that read, "It's not illegal unless someone official tells you it's illegal." What the hell? We're not supposed to be upset by and talk about that?

I have to agree in part with the author, this should be news - though I do understand that it won't be and am not surprised it's not.

    MommaKat,
I found Hillary revolting even 8 years ago, but just thought she was a repulsive, anti-charismatic person, the opposite of her husband. Her tactics in this primary are way, way beyond the pale. However, I find it questionable that ALL her supporters are the same sort of dishonest scum, that they support her because they want to see that sort of lying, dishonorable, cheating scum in the Oval Office. Give me a break! People want the best candidate possible to be our president unless they happen to be dedicated Satanists or something of that sort. But to portray ALL Hillary supporters as gladly and vigorously utilizing the same tactics as Hillary herself goes beyond my ability to believe it and calls into question many other stories told her about the evils of her campaign for the Democratic nomination. No, I'm not going to support Hillary or McCain. Nader is looking better and better to me as is Mickey Mouse, Pat Paulsen (so what if he's dead), even Mickey's dog, Pluto Pup.

Another thing I don't get is why Hillary's and Barack's supporters are so polarized. Supporters on each side absolutely hate each other and that story about the stabbing is only one example. My guess is that if this goes to the convention, a lot of delegates on both sides are going into that auditorium packing and probably armed with AK-47s and other assault weapons so that those only packing concealable weapons will be at the disadvantage.

As I said, I never liked Hillary. 8 years ago, wouldn't have supported her because I thought she was so anti-charismatic, I thought she was unelectable. But the extreme internal polarization in the party makes no sense. Especially, can't understand why Obama's supporters are reacting this way since Obama seems to me to be a candidate of moderation and good judgment. Don't understand why they love the man but are so unlike what I think he represents. If Obama loses my vote to Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck or Nader, it won't be because of anything Obama has done but because I question his credentials based on those who support him. As for Clinton, I still think she is using deplorable tactics unsuitable to anyone I would ever want to call MY president, really barely better than Bush, she will never get my vote.

All this is a rather silly argument really given that I very sincerely doubt that George Bush the First, Ruler of the Known Universe, King of Kings, Holy Roman Emperor, God's Annointed will step down on January 20, 2009. My guess is that on January 20, 2009, Obama had better be prepared to use many battalions of the army to remove Bush from the Oval Office. Then again, he may also have to use more battalions to defend himself from the other usurper, Hillary. I just hope that he is worthy. You know, Pat Paulsen is looking better and better, a far more sane choice.

What did Obama say about Hillary?

    Oh, yeah, she's "nice enough".

You'll know things are surreal when Clinton claims Obama lied when he said that she was nice enough.

My daughter and son-in-law were delegates to their Texas County Convention this week end and their experience was grueling as well. They reported to me that many attendees were unable to get credentialed because their precinct captains had failed to submit their lists of expected attendees. I'm still having trouble wiping away the image of Hillary sitting next to Bill Scaife at a board meeting last week, after which he gave her a mild endorsement.

That photo op is akin to FDR and Hitler sitting down for lunch. The image will haunt me for years to come!

I was a Delegate in Collin County. We had our convention on Sunday becuae there was no place large enough available on Saturday. Everything was really done well, although we were there for 12 hours, many for 15 or even 18 hours. The turnout was more than 10 times anything Collin County has ever seen, it's said to be the most Republican in Texas, maybe that's changing! We had some challenges, and all were made by Clinton supporters. I sure hope there's no truth to what I read here, that materials were sent out to Clinton supporters with "stalling tactics". Yikes. I am an Obama supporter, but I am hoping to be able to vote for Clinton, and feel good about it - if she is the candidate in Nov.

LeftCoastOracle... With all due respect, the left has "chilled out" and "behaved like grownups" for the past 7 years. Look where it's got us.

My comment below was my very first post to a blog. I've been reading for years, but my delegate experience pushed me to voice my concerns here. I do not blog lightly. We have a small window of opportunity to turn the course of this country around.

When I see Rove tactics being used within our party to subvert the peoples will, I become concerned. Even a cursory view of the blogs and the news over recent weeks shows that my experience at the convention was not an isolated one. Like it or not we are in the mud. So, holding our tongue and trusting in the goodness of others may not lead to the desired result.

I will support the nominee of our party regardless of who it may be, because I can’t imagine a third Bush term. I just want that candidate to be our best shot at bringing light to very dark time in America.

Thank you for your post LeftCoastOracle. Your civil tone is worthy of your candidate.

Wordman, unless we Democrats learn to trust each other we will never take this country back from our opponents. In my experience it has been the lefty tendency to form into a circular firing squad that has led to defeat over and over again. It would be best if we saved our aggression for those who truly oppose us.

Hi Ms Karol! And to all the beautiful people.

I have nothing to say against delicious older women. I plan to be one myself someday. But right now there are a buncha them who are insulting the mighty and brave progressive females who paved the road before them, all in an effort to elect a woman solely because she is a woman and ignoring the facts of this particular woman they are blindly supporting. I love older women, but right now their luster is for me, dulled.

    mirth,

My mushroom induced and/or lucid comment may or may not have been directed at you. If you are a Texas county delegate participant the same or similar as the person behind the camera at ( http://www.youtube.com/user/kimfrederi ), then yes it was meant for you. If not then let it pass without "beginning" to get it for it was not necessarily for you to get, in the beginning, meddle or end.
