AMERICAblog: Senator David Vitter (R-LA), of DC Madam infamy, is leader of anti-auto industry force in GOP; Calls auto industry bailout "ass backwards"

Endless Freudian plumbing metaphors from the GOP.
gwpriester
He is correct. The auto industry just like the financial industry will accept the money and continue doing what they have been doing. Until that money runs out.
There should be restrictions placed on the auto industry loan.
And Viter could make a case that Lousiana could use a bail out itself. Which Bush promised and upon which he never delivered.

Diaper Dave is leading the oppo? Beyond laughable & beyond desperation time.
Comics late night & otherwise have new fodder besides Gov. Blago, while Olbermann & Maddow also have a ball with Vitter's words of, uh, wisdom.

Was Vitter crapping in his diaper as he spoke with CBS? Washington needs change and so does Vitter.

Let the repugnacans block this bill and destroy the auto industry putting another 3 million QAmericans out of work. That's 3 million votes they will never get again.

Ahhh ass backwards.... he must be daydreaming of old times while writing his speeches! I find that it is funny that they chose Vitter to lead since Selby was not getting any traction. Funny that Alabama has given more taxpayer money per worker to entice the transplants than the 34 billion would be for union workers.
wmforr
The difference is that the money is not going to the workers. A couple of weeks ago some of the Alabama delegation were complaining that their taxpayers, who didn't have health insurance, were being asked to finance Michigan workers' health insurance.
The weird part was that they seemed rather proud that their workers had no insurance. And they keep getting votes from these people. How? God, guns and gays (and little hint of old time racism)? Is there lead in the water down there?

Maybe Vitter should have demonstrated his point with a diaper wearing doll with swiveling hips. Vitter could just twist the dolls hips to demonstrate.
That gives me another idea. Like the Bill Gates pie in the face incident, I would love to see someone at an upcoming Vitter public speech/appearance load up a Pampers with chocolate pudding and gently toss it at Vitter.

Well, if Diaper Dave has ass on the brain, you can bet he's back using prostitutes...
Actually, he thinks Shelby is getting more face time with the media, though.

the whole reason the R's want to the auto companies to go into bankruptcy is so they have an opportunity to take the pensions off of their balance sheets and push it over to the federal pension guarantee organization, similiar to what the airlines did in their restructuring
the r's don't give a hoot about helping the companies become competitive, they are simply looking out for their corporate benefactors by helping them to go to bankruptcy to lose the pensions

America is turning into a Police State. Look at the new Cop Car.
Why should we bail out a failed industry? It's just ridiculous. How long are you going to prop it up for before we run out of money and even more people lose their jobs?
ron071
How did the foreign auto transplants in the good ole South get their state sponsored advantages? This was just more of the " free trade "equal provisions" which put American manufacturers in a financial hole. Surely, the Republicans want third world pay rates for Americans so that their corporate profits can soar. This must be stopped before we become a third world-two class country.

Just called Vitter's office and they had the nerve to hang up on me when I asked "In Senator Vitter's experience, didn't he have to leave the money on the prostitute's nightstand first, before she performed her services?"

You want to save the U.S. auto industry? Go out and buy an American car. That's how to bail them out, not throwing free money at them. We have gone completely crazy.
Charles2
Two things: 1. In a recession, who's got money to go buy a car? 2. If they'd make a good car, more people might buy them.
I don't think anyone really wants to bail out the auto industry because of the products they make - it's the 2 - 3 million total jobs that disappear in the middle of a recession that scares the hell out of everyone.
Rab

Whether you are for or against the bailout one thing is crystal clear: Repug power grab to get rid of unions. Don't think that matters? Welcome to the continuous race to the bottom as far as pay goes.

Not really. Just the Wall Street CEOs, but, for some reason, he don't want to share diapers with the auto company execs.

Taft Hartley went a long way toward getting rid of the unions but they still exist in states that refused to go along with the Right to Work provision. Ex slave state Republi-fascists see the current Big Three mess as a way to get rid of the UAW altogether. Then the Japanese and Korean transplants can crap all over their workers without the threat of a union organizing movement. Just more GOP class warfare.
You Are All Idiots
Do you know how to do simple math? Your Competition is paying HALF for Labor than you are. If unions hang on then the workers will be making 100% Less than they were. Class warfare? Hmmm I am going to pay someone $75/hr to do a job that it takes no brains to do while your competiton is paying half to a third of your Labor cost, bailout or not that is a bad business plan.
Charles2
Speaking of simple math... Have you read the NYT article on what that $70 - $75 figure actually means?
Turns out - no surprise - that number INCLUDES retiree costs allocated to each current worker. Turns out the true compensation to UAW members is about $5 - $10 more than the Toyota or Hyundai workers.
Do your homework.
kris
The truth is they make between $20 and $25 per hour very much in line with competition. The structure of retiree benefits and such nonsense inflate this number. The industry deserves a rescue more so than the banking industry.

How shallow a bench do you have to have if you trot out the hooker buyer as your point man on the economy?
How come Diaper Dave is still in office and Spitzer had to resign? How come Diaper Dave is on the TV talk shows and the pundits are declaring that John Edward "political career is over?"
The good, old GOP double standard is still in effect.

GOOD POINT!
Question: Will Dave Vitter become a new spokesman for wet wipes, baby powder, diapers and Lysol when his career is finally over?
larry
Sure, let the GOP block the bridge loan to the auto companies...allow them to go belly up...and when millions are unemployed let the Republicans run for public office....we will remind them that they the republicans in the Senate and Congress did what W didn't finally do...destroy the US economy and our country as we know it. The GOP are destructive to the nation for ideology and the animal desire to destroy the unions. How very sad. Well folks let them go bankrupt and see what happens.
Eric
Yes, yes, I'm glad we don't attack his position on why he doesn't support an auto bailout. Instead, we do things the Karl Rove republican way and talk about prostitutes the whole time.
The next time the republicans are in power shitting on all of us, don't complain about how we didn't do it to them.

Yes, and just imagine being one of his colleagues and having him EXTEND his hand to SHAKE YOUR HAND! I think I would just faint... Can you imagine the vertigo? Okay, imagine being a fellow Senator and hearing your colleague not only got caught with prostitutes but the word from them is he gets into the whole "adult baby" thing and part of the disgusting sex they have includes dirty diapers and powdering his butt?!!? Don't you think that would be the LAST TIME you EVER shook hands with that creep? I would have a CASE of wet wipes in my desk on the off chance Vitter ever TOUCHED ME! (and LYSOL!)

"Destroy America First." That is the new GOP theme song. They love to throw billions at the greedy stupid Zionist Wall Street pigs, with no oversight (ala no-bid), with help our struggling automobile manufacturers, no. Back in the 1930s and early 1940s the Republican Senators were against helping Britain and France in their fight with Hitler and the Nazis. Now, the Republican Senators are supporting German and Japanese car manufacturers...Still traitors...

I'm confused, it isn't like this is unprecedented. Chrysler was given government loan guarantees last time it failed miserably - of course, at that time they brought in a new hotshot CEO and revamped their entire care line up to get with reality, but it worked. Personally, I'm of the opinion that if their handlers at Cerberus Capital Management doesn't even want to give them money, why should anyone else?

House ethics committee handed the GOP a gift regarding Charlie Rangel. And the republicans are going after Charlie Rangel over some tax problems with a vengence, and nothing is going to happen to Vitter regarding his illegal dealings with prostitutes. Not much help coming from Pelosi. Why can't Pelosi had us a gift by impeaching Bush and Cheney? No, I know, it's a one-way street.

Responding to Sen. David Vitter
Sir, As concerns your letter, why is it a bad thing to have a filibuster proof majority when the Republicans floundered power for the last 8 years and caused the American People mayhem and this Economic Mess?
I am disappointed with you trying to block the Auto bail-out bill and chairing the Republican camp to oppose the American Car companies while trying to look forward to winning the next election.
I think this is what is wrong with the Republican party and why you lost the last two elections. I understand, you favor Bankruptcy for the auto industry and don't care about the millions of Americans and their Families who are going to loose their jobs because you claim you stand for principles?
I know I can't change your mind, but if you want to Join Sen. Shelby and the others who love Foreign car companies in their home states so much then we will remember this during the next elections and the repercussions will reverberate as you look forward towards blocking your own lame-docked President.
I beg to disagree with you that this only shows how prepared you are to Oppose President Elect Obama when he takes office in January because your Party is bent on doing everything to make him fail so as to assume power.
I know for sure your party is in the minority for these careless policies and self-aggrandizement.
I am not sure how many letters you read from your constituents but I will appreciate if my questions are answered.
Thank you and God Bless.

If the auto workers want money out of Senator Dave Vitter, they should dress as hookers, bring a few diapers, and show some bootie in front of his offices or maybe his home. Hey, Diaper Dave likes to pay for it.......it's just a matter of how you dress up dress up when you want the money.
There should be restrictions placed on the auto industry loan.
