AMERICAblog: Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) makes a feeble attempt to rein in the vicious rhetoric of Rush and Newt

  • HelenRainier · 6 months ago
It's pretty damned sad and pathetic that the elected representatives of a political party have such little fortitude or gravitas that they have had to give up the control of their party to a drug addicted radio host and a former dark-hearted Vice President.

If I were a republic I would be ashamed to consider myself one of this group of yellow bellied chickenhawk cowards.

We refer to this yahoo, here, as Jubilation T Cornhole.

yeehaw. Big John is quaking in his pointy-toed cowboy boots, just waiting for limpballs to crack that whip...
  • avahome · 6 months ago
Come on John.......this is the fight you pick? Too little too late that's what I think.
  • jeanne marie · 6 months ago
Oh, he's just saying what he has to say on NPR to pretend he cares about the moderate Republicans. He cares only to keep them in the fold.

The base knows he has to diss Rush and Newt to sound credible to that audience. It's just a game.
  • buzztok · 6 months ago
Cornyn might as well get ready to feel the wrath of Rush. He knows better than to issue a statement like that without getting permission from the leader of the party (limbaugh).
  • Scottsdalian · 6 months ago
You know the repubs are fukced when their 'voice of reason' is John Cornyn!
  • tlsintx · 6 months ago
10 bucks says Cornhole goes on am hate radio next and says the exact opposite of what he just said on NPR.
  • David T · 6 months ago
Cornyn is a ***k. He's always been. He always will be. So glad he'll soon be humiliated into apologizing.

"I would hope that a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences, would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life." = a racist and sexist comment.

"I would hope that a wise white male, with the richness of his experiences, would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina who hasn't lived that life." = a racist and sexist comment.

Too bad the Left is incapable of understanding the concepts of "equality" and "non-discrimination".
  • David T · 6 months ago
Perhaps you need a better understanding of context.
  • LuZenMyMnd · 6 months ago
THAT is where YOU are slightly confused.

White males have NEVER had to make that statement because it's ALWAYS been from their perspective. It's just never been articulated as such amongst whites....but minorities have always felt shut out and as though the constitution did not apply to them, nor most of their judgments in an equitable manner.

You again....are the one's misled. We've always seen it as YOUR way and never as the melting pot of America's way. Our country until now has been a melting pot only of races and religions, but not true ethnicities.

'Too bad the ultra-conservative right is incapable of understanding concepts of "equality" and "non-discrimination."'

Cornyn's position is even more precarious when you consider that several right-wing blogs and other elements of the base are already furious with him for endorsing Charlie Crist in the 2010 Florida senate race.

They want their boy Marco Rubio to get the nomination, and are apoplectic that the NRSC took sides in the primary. They have even started a movement called "Not One Red Cent" that aims to punish the NRSC by starving it of funds.

I expect that Limbaugh will unload on Cornyn on his show today, and the good senator's office will release a "clarification" of his remarks before the sun goes down.

The republicans privately applaud every ridiculous statement these radicals make but have to act like they are disturbed.
They have chosen these dishonorable men as spokespeople
for them and their party and now maybe, just maybe they
are recognizing that the American people are disgusted and dismayed with their constant swiftboating actions? Naw.
Don't think these unAmerican politicians will ever admit or
recognize they are wrong about anything.
  • Sister Faith · 6 months ago
I take exception with calling Limpballs "a popular radio host"....since with is a 21% approval rating considered popular?

The fact that Rethugs are idiots doesn't mean that Sotomayor is a racist; the elected ones have been too silent about who they let run their party.

However, I sure wish Pres. Obama had found someone of the caliber, brilliance, and professional background of Ruth Bader Ginsberg, herself a tireless worker and advocate for women's rights. I'm afraid we'll never get another like her.
  • LuZenMyMnd · 6 months ago
::::huge sigh:::: Alas....we must settle for the one who brings a different perspective to the SC. What shall we do w/o white males dominating the future?

New attack line against Sotomayor: she doesn't have the right temperament to be a judge because she interrupts and argues with the attorneys in front of her.

You know, like Scalia. Or like the way the religious right's fantasy dream date, Laura Schlessinger, treats her callers.

I think it's hilarious. Let the bigots rant!

The spineless wonders that the usually rabid RNC are, become amazingly silent even though they know RushNewtCheney are alienating prospective constituents. Where's the fight for the party's sake? Are ALL prominent RNC members racist? Their silence screams they are.

As I've said before....they're hilarious. We've seen and heard these same theatrics for generations. They've got to come w/a new game. They can take a sentence twist it....manipulate it and drag it through the mud.....we still don't trust anything that comes out of their mouth....especially when they attempt to say it's a "direct quote." We know there's much more of an explanation behind it.

Someone gag Cornyn, quick. Don't want people to think there are any reasonable people left in the Republican party. Newt, Rush and Cheney are the perfect spokesmen for this party of filth, corruption, hatred and crime. Republicans are at 21% and falling. Frankly, I think we need an opposition party, but the Republicans aren't an opposition party but rather an enemy of this nation, like the WWII Nazis.
  • Brendan_M · 6 months ago
You're kind of hypocritical, criticizing Newt and Rush for their smears and nonsense while engaging in extreme hyperbole.

If you want to know the context of Sotomayor's controversial comments, so you can help battle back against the tide of ignorance, you can find it here.

I think you guys are nuts! I have been reading your comments and can't believe you guys are talking about the GOP, Rush, etc as though you are so sane. You people need to get a life and maybe take a step back and realize you are nothing but hate mongers! Oops, sorry I forgot that Lib's are they most wonderful, smart and PREJUDICIAL people I have ever heard.
