AMERICAblog: Shoplifting on the increase as economy fails

  • djny10003 · 11 months ago
Oh, for heaven's sake; the word "it's" means "it is" or "it has"! Examples: It's cold today, it's been a long time since I saw you.

The possessive is "its" (no apostrophe). The Republican economy is taking ITS toll on America, not "it is toll." People will take you more seriously if you know how to spell.

djny10003, well that is a product of a good middle class education friend. Relax we all aren't teachers. We get what the person means.

I agree with you. Just "getting" what the person means isn't good enough. We should go back to grunting at each other if that's the case.
English is my language and I'm proud enough of it to learn how to speak, read, and write properly.

I know it shouldn't exactly be legal to steal baby formula, but prosecuting someone for it just seems so... wrong.

He should try going for the Wix program.

Good suggestion, but I think you mean the federal supplemental food program WIC.

    Women
    Infants
    Children

Although originally for women, the benefits now extend to males in a caregiver role.

Oops, your right. I couldn't remember what it was called. I know my son could have gotten it but he refused. He called it charity. I told him it wasn't. He struggled but with our help. I worry about his future. He doesn't even make $18,000 a yr. He is a great cook and he one of the best where he works at. Every time he has asked for a raise he has gotten it. He is that good. But now things are slowing down and there is no overtime. We have helped him alot with his basic needs but things are getting tight. I know we aren't the only ones in this fix. I pray it doesn't get any worse. In Oct of 09 I can apply for my social security and that will help us. I think we are doing as good as can be. My relatives in Mich. can't say the same. They work for the big 3 car makers. They are laid off. Things are really bad were they are at. I think we really are in a depression already. I hate to say that. I pray Obama can start to get us on the right track.

Back in my college days I worked loss prevention for Costco. I thought it was a decent job at the time because I got to just wander around the store looking like any other shopper. All the other employees with vests or name tags were constantly stuck with people coming up to them asking questions.

Sad. Lots of young people like Johnson are not finding jobs, or are recent hires, so will be laid off first in most places. Many also have no idea about how to apply for assistance.

Not worth jail over $5, but if it's his first time, he'll pull probation more than likely, but will have a record of theft--a killer if he ever applies for a retail job.

No one in the United States should ever have to steal baby formula (assuming it's for a baby). But compact discs, gift cards and designer clothing aren't necessities of life and the book should be thrown at them. Shoplifters cost the rest of us dollars out of our pockets. But prosecute them after wealthy tax-dodgers, corporate looters and crooked politicians.

Time to start chopping off hands.

Not of the shoplifters...of the bankers who are holding the country hostage with a death-grip around its throat. They control all the credit, but are terrified of losing their summer palaces and yachts by releasing their grasp on credit funds, while pumping up their fees and interest rates...while everyone sits idly by waiting for the economy to collapse and die.
