AMERICAblog: Shouldn't McCain know what he's talking about on the economy?

Obama is giving a really good speech on the economy right now.

Slightly OT, the Florida legislature apologizes for slavery. Which presidential candidates can support such a liberal move toward social justice?

Glass Steagall, enacted in the late 30's was based on studies at the time that identified stupid fucking investments (technical term) as the reason for widespread bank failures in the 30's. With a combination of federal government backed deposit insurance, meaning if the funds go bust the taxpayers step in, and regulations on what banks can invest in, our banking system was a model for the world for decades.

Along comes Bill Clinton and Pill Gramm (assface) to pass the Gramm Leach Bliley act in 1999. This kept the government guarantee on deposit insurance funds but eliminated any restrictions on what banks could invest in (free markets not government controls). These fuckers have bankrupted the banking system in less than a decade.

Of course he should. Will he (McCain)? Of course not.

Yes, Sarain, that video should be Obama's new campaign video.

With all due respect Martha, Obama is just propping up the big LIE. Nothing more. The financial system in which we live under is a complete FRAUD. And its tanking. You have been lied to from day one, right when you put a little money in the piggy bank when you were 4 years old, to the "investments" you may dabble in today. The implications are deep and the repercussions will be devastating. It may be this realization by the American public which could launch a march on Washington, to bring these treasonous politicians their last cigarette and a blindfold. Maybe??

For an understanding of this chk this link out:

Fed Is Just One Part Of Much Bigger Scam

  • jimfromthefoothills · 1 year ago
To make a statement that financial markets are all a scam is complete fucking nonsense.
  • High Crimes & Misdemeanors · 1 year ago
and to continue to bellieve theBIG LIE, tells me your not to bright. Let's hear your conclusions as to why the financial world markets are nearing collapse? Who and what publications do you read? What is your back up and understanding on why the US government gave CHASE bank 29 billion dollars just this past month. Explain yourself!

  • jimfromthefoothills · 1 year ago
See post below for the explanation of what caused the banking crisis. To make a statement that all financial markets are a scam is aluminum foil hat, bat shit crazy. Unless you want everyone to live in caves and trade rocks for animal skins, we require financial markets to transfer money from savers to borrowers.

Financial markets are not perfect but they never have been and never will be. The struggle between society (who regulate markets via government) and capitalists will forever be a loop of Itchy and Scratchy. Personally, I think that the capitalists have hung themselves with all the extra rope Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush have given them. I do not see huge political changes happening though. Even my man Obama, who I think is our great hope to save America, is backed by Paul Volcker (part of the problem).

im not conetesting the loaning part of the financial markets, im contesting the way in which its done and the interest made. most all hear are stuck on the notio of the "full faith and credit" of the us gvmnt. that notion is as false as christanity.

its not about being perfect. it can never be pefect if it came about from fraud and false pretenses. we have been duped. its itchy and scratchy because there are some of us here who say the system is a lie.

what do you read?? what publications do you read??

and please stop with the "conspiracy theroy" tin foil hat bullshit - thats a side tracking debate tactic. lets debate the merits here....

Obama responded to McCain's speech but who would know. The press is too enamored with Clinton's latest allegations about Obama's minister. Obama responds to McCain, Clinton doesn't. Hmmm, strange that Cliniton ignores the opposing presidential nominee and instead focuses on destroying the Dem party.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Aquarius,

Clinton isn't interested in the Democratic Party or how she and her "people" are helping to destroy the advantages we once had in this election. The Senator is interested in power only and I'm not sure which of the Clinton's is more excited about getting their hands on that red phone.

I think, by November, Iraq will be close to the top again in voter concerns.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Hawkeye,

I am afraid you are right about that. Iraq is appearing to be reving up in violence again. With the Sadrists now calling OFF their cease fire, all heck is going to break out shortly and no one and no amount of blather about how the surge is doing well, will put this straight.

I wonder how McCain will frame the coming violence.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Margaret Carlson said yesterday on Hardball, I think, that McCain would find a way to argue both ways. If we are doing well, we need to stay there to support democracy, and if the war goes on, we need to stay there to prevent further atrocities. Sounds right to me.
  • onceVM · 1 year ago
I wish I knew how to photoshop..I see McCain's teleprompter as being Lieberman's face on the screen mouthing what to say.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Unfortunately, the media is in the tank for McCain, so it is doubtful they will report honestly on his "foibles". Or should I say his "honest mistakes"?
  • Demo_Dave · 1 year ago
Thank You I loved this article it makes Hillary looks so much more human. isee nothing negative about her prayer group.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Demo Dave,

You do not see a problem when a PRAYER group supports dictators and murders? You do not see a problem with a PRAYER group who works in secret, shutting off all of their archives as RESTRICTED? You do not see a problem with a woman who smears another's religious leader and yet won't be honest about her own? And do you not see anything wrong with a woman who is asked to reveal her own taxes and obfuscates and merely asks for her opponent to release more of his own?
  • maggiePA08 · 1 year ago
I had the teevee on when McCain was making that speech, and tho trying not to listen, I heard him twice refer to "leaders and borrowers". I didnt even have his teleprompter in front of me and I could tell he was misreading an A for an N.

Insane McCain is lucky when he wakes up in the morning that he knows his name. I don't doubt that the MSM is giving him a pass, I just would like to know why? Why are they not going over his shady past with a fine tooth comb bringing the truth into the light of public scrutiny. They broadcast his whole boring read of canned out-of-date discussion of the war and worse yet the economy. The man himself admits he knows nothing about the economy. And yet two major news networks interrupt an excellent speech by Obama to reduce their coverage to mindless jibberings by the daytime bimbos. Yes CNN and MSNBC I'm talking about you. ASre they going to give the same treatment to the lying racist pig Hillary and her whoremonger husband, now chief hatchet wielder for her "team." When are we going to see those tax returns Hil?
What can the public do to corrrect the myopic approach of the MSM?
Or is the sad truth that America is just a nation of sheep, easily lead, and too lazy and uninterested in finding out the truth for themselves, that they are easily led by the last bit of untrue propaganda that his their ears or eyes.
Americans elected G.W. Bush twice, ther second time after they knew the republicon machine had fiddled the vote and coopted the supreme court in their shenanigans. All these democrats who were elected in 2006 with the air of making great progreess, stopping the war, etc. have accomplished a big nothing; Nancy Pelosi, first woman spreaker, all well and good, but from the start she said Impeachment was off the table. The one biggest thing that needed to be done and she was against it. So don't talk to me about Nancy the answer on her is still out. But surely the most stupid sheep are those we now hear saying Well if my candidate Obama/Clinton isn't nominated I will vote for McCain. Anyone who takes this approach is just too stupid to live. Nothing...NOTHING cou be as bad as casting your vote for Insane McCain because you don't like Obama or Clinton. That would be like voting for G.W.Bush a third time.

LOL, Hillary is busted again. Drudge is breaking a huge story that Billary illegally took funds from a foreigner, Elton John. This is going to be big because if you remember only last week a UK celebrity was refused entry to the US because of previous morals charges. Elton John has a history of all kinds of wild lifestyle garbage so should be treated the same. Shillary's caught again making a special exception for those who embrace her immorality and deceit. I'll never listen to another Elton John piece of crap again.

Should freedom of religion and tolerance for different views extend to allowing parents to choose religious treatment over traditional medical treatment for their children? Is it OK for parents to allow to allow their children to die if the parents believe that death is the 'will of God'? The death of this 11 year old girl was easily preventable but her parents willfully chose to substitute magical thinking for simple, responsible medical care. As a direct result, the girl died. Frankly, if you want to believe some ridiculous myth about an all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful deity, who hears and answers prayers, who whisks something you call your 'soul' off to a magical land called 'heaven' when you die, well, that's your business. It's poppycock, but I can certainly leave you to your beliefs under the principle of tolerance. But when your god delusion directly causes the unnecessary death of an 11 year girl, that's depraved indifference and it is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

Understanding the depths of the God delusion...

Were it within my power, not only would I lock these parents up and throw away the key, but I would deny them medical care for the remainder of their lives. Someone, I think might have been Erma Bombeck, once said: as you sow, so shall you reap...

The US government guarantee is good enough for me (and the markets). I think displaying a US flag in surrender mode as a sign that we are going bankrupt is irresponsible, undercutting any statement that you make.

Anybody who claims (as you do) that the US is in imminent danger of financial collapse is a fucking moron OR insane (or I guess you could be both).

US Government guarantees are good enough for me and the financial markets (the sane, non-moronic people).

You are disrespectful to the country, its people and its flag.

I see Candidate McCain's self professed ignorance in economics as about par for the course w/all the leadership of the political apparatus in the U.S.

Finding smart and (law abiding) people in DC is just asking to much. Finding power drunkards, megalomaniacs, lawlessness and suck up's (not prostitute's) in this case ( : and thousands of cretin minions to their bidding are not a rare find though.

America is in trouble but the main threat is not from terrorists. It is the hubris of a class of people run amok who believe the world is their possession. And apparently if it cannot be theirs it can be no one's.
