AMERICAblog: Shouldn't we have expected more from Obama's cabinet?

  • devlzadvocate · 11 months ago
Not pandering to special interests? If the whole cabinet reads "conservative" what is that, chopped liver?
  • Steve · 11 months ago
Maybe his "change" is really "more of the same." Please, Lord, I hope we haven't been duped by another politician. I really liked Obama. Now...we'll have to see.
  • Observer · 11 months ago
Obama & his pal Eric Holder want to throw me in prison for recreational cannabis use.

Expect more from Obama & his cabinet? Nope. Never did. Glad I didn't vote for him.

I expected Obama & his pals to perpetrate the fascist war on Humans & Nature.

Obama has lived up to my expectation that he'd be George Bush with a tan.
  • johnosahon · 11 months ago
    wtf?
  • Webster · 11 months ago
New campaign slogan: "Change You Can Hardly See."
  • John · 11 months ago
WOW!! NOW is angry at President Obama after the way they treated him when he was running against Hillary the names they call him and remeber PUMA, now they are angry because he has appointed 1/4 of his cabinet to women, please!!!
  • KerrynowCampau · 11 months ago
Obama has not disappointed me in the least bit. I learned after the election of Bill Clinton to keep my expectations low. The only thing that has surprised me was how bad Bush was. I knew he would be bad but he surpassed anything I could imagine.
  • johnosahon · 11 months ago
    wtf?

i could say the same thing about the gay community, since it ALL boils down to that issue. is that' not why you have been complaining all these while.

maybe if you did an outreach to the MINORITY GAYS in the community and used them, maybe prop 8 would not have passed and all these OUTRAGE you guys are exhibiting would not have occured.

Mr. Obama-Failed-Before-He-is-sworn-In-CAMP meet another Crazy http://www.jasmynecannick.com/blog/?p=3298
and STFU ALREADY, this is IRRITATING me now.

or better yet Obama is a crazy racist sexist homophobic idiot and should be impeached IMMEDIATELY he is sworn in, or better yet can we get mccain instead?
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 11 months ago
criticism of obama? is that fair?
  • Nigel Elliott · 11 months ago
That's funny because it's true. LOL Some people here really believe that crazy shit about Obama. I agree that Warren is a bigoted pig, but the Pope is worse. Now, I guess Obama has to reject and denounce the Pope and offend 1.5 billion Catholics to make A-bloggers happy!

    Happy Christmas.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 11 months ago
your comments usually make sense. the pope is not delivering the national blessing, is he? and what, according to you, should obama do to distance himself from rick warren? we need some constructive ideas here.
  • Nigel Elliott · 11 months ago
Why thank you, Steve. I just think that Obama should reach out to all Americans and gay rights leaders must learn to not only confront but engage religious people. Warren and Benedict are representative of most of the global religious community. Progressive religious people are already for gay rights, now we have to engage the others, which are the majority, to tackle discrimination and ignorance on all fronts. I understand the outrage, but outrage is not leadership. I voted for Obama because he said he would talk to our enemies without preconditions. If you have a better idea to bring about change, I am all ears.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 11 months ago
the outrage is not because Obama is talking to his/our enemies. you have to get past that misconception.
  • AdrianBrowne · 11 months ago
Unfortunately, I'm not disappointed -- the tone of the cabinet-picks is about what I expected.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 11 months ago
Obama's science team is not just good, but stellar.

    http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId...

The new NOAA administrator Jane Lubchenco is a renowned coastal marine biologist (and a woman).
  • jebauer · 11 months ago
Is my math off? 5 of 20 appointed. That would be 1/4... no? Seems like a fair percentage.
  • Nigel Elliott · 11 months ago
You mean diversity like the bloggers here? Lots of diversity here, NOT!!!!! Pot meet kettle Chris.

Oh, and why is John silent over the Pope's dangerously bigoted comments about gays and the transgendered? The silence is deafening......

    BBC:
Gay groups angry at Pope remarks

Gay groups and activists have reacted angrily after Pope Benedict XVI said that mankind needed to be saved from a destructive blurring of gender.

Yep. I wanted pretty much all black people.
  • Chris From Maine · 11 months ago
I see a lot of "continuity" between the Bush people and the Obama people, which is pretty sad. Most of the Bushies and other Republicans are applauding the picks, and saying Obama has done "a very good job". If Obama had picked real change, dont you think Bushies would be up in arms and outraged?

I mean he kept Gates at defense when the logical choice would have been Wes Clark for example. He picked one of the people helping King Henry (Paulson) steal trillions as the new Treasury Secretary..

That being said, I think its too early to pass judgment, because they arent even in office yet. None of these people are confirmed or even close to it. We still have a month before Obama is sworn in. Let's see what they do in office before passing judgment on them as a whole.
  • JayR · 11 months ago
Is it easier for the GOP to go after Gates or Clark?
  • AdmNaismith · 11 months ago
Gates never even wanted to stay, then took the extension the moment it was offered. Douche.
Gods, we need a man like Wes Clark more than ever, somewhere, anywhere in the cabinet.
  • JayR · 11 months ago
Is it easier for the GOP to go after Gates or Clark?
  • Chris From Maine · 11 months ago
If we base the cabinet on "who is it easier for the GOP to attack" they have already won.
  • Nigel Elliott · 11 months ago
I agree Wes Clark should lead the DoD, but I also understand Gates staying on in the interim. I'm betting Gates will be replaced after the troop withdrawal is finalised.
  • Older_Wiser · 11 months ago
Yes, I know he's the president elect, and yes, I know he deserves a vacation, but at $8500 a day? That's what he's paying a 40 year old Houston assets manager (who bought the property this year for $9 million) for rent of the seaside villa. Or is it the contributors to his campaign that are paying? You know, the ones who can't even pay $8500 a year on their houses and are out on the street now.

Seems a bit excessive for someone who promised change.
  • Nigel Elliott · 11 months ago
So he should risk his life staying in a Motel 8? And where will the SS sleep? In the parking lot? These comments are petty and sad.
  • Older_Wiser · 11 months ago
No, not petty and sad at all. And no, I don't expect them to stay at a Motel 8 or anything like that. It's a 5 br, 5 bth house, so I don't know where the SS sleeps, don't even know how many are with them.

The rent varies from $7500 to $9500 per day, and I suppose that depends on how many people use it--up to 10 from the ad. I'm simply appalled at how much something like this costs when lots of people have so little and the economy is so screwed up.
  • gold toofs · 11 months ago
I think he put together an excellent cabinet. Would you rather have cronies like Dubya had? Obama's cabinet members actually have smarts and credentials. Who cares if we are short a couple women, blacks, gays, whatever. You can't please everyone.
I'm not pleased about Obama's pick of fat ass Rick Warren to speak at his inauguration, but I guess I'll move on and look at bigger fish to fry. Warren is getting exposed with all this attention, so maybe it's not such a bad thing.
  • Older_Wiser · 11 months ago
Women are the majority in the US, yet considered a "minority." Such is the state of politics, my friends.

25% of appointees is not 51%...and I don't see 10% gay, either. But who's counting? I just don't understand the right of center picks, either...that's not change, just the same old, same old special interests, in spite of what's said.
  • JayR · 11 months ago
It'd only be the same old if the policies are the same old.
  • Dudeabides · 11 months ago
This blog has become a total joke. During the primaries these guys were incredibly sexist, unfair, and overly dramatic about Hillary Clinton. Clinton supporters tried to tell you guys Obama was a fraud. Well guess what you backed the wrong candidate and now you reap the consequences. Hillary would have never invited Warren and you can bet her cabinet would have been far more representative of the u.s. population. Obama is going to be nothing more than Bush-lite.
  • scottinsf · 11 months ago
I'll still take Obama over Hillary any day.
  • scottinsf · 11 months ago
I was very disappointed with his choice for Secretary of Transportation. I was hoping that Obama would've elevated the importance of the Department of Transportation considering the economic stimulus that could come about with a focus on rail, air, and marine infrastructure. I just don't see that happening with republican Ray LaHood at transportation and I don't see any evidence there will be change I can believe in.

I OFFICIALLY return my LEFT WING CARD, i cannot do this any more. this CONSTANT complaining is giving me headaches, Jesus Christ (SORRY IF USING THE NAME JESUS OFFENDED ANYONE HERE), but it is getting ridiculous.

don't you see you are turning into the right wing of the democratic party? i wonder if we got the unqualified idiots working for bush because they fit the right-wing criteria for office.

anyways, you would NOT take Obama down like the right-wingers told bush down, you would not suceed in that CRAZY. My christmas (SORRY HOLIDAY) wish is for the left and right to DISAPPEAR so that people with "reasoning" can FINALLY be heard.

thanks and good bye till January when the REAL ISSUES that would help the world will be debated, till then anytime i see news heading about the idiot "waren" , "obama is a failure, blah, blah, blah" and so on, i would happily skip it to headings about "the economy".

i am TIRED of this DRAMA.
  • johnosahon · 11 months ago
if Obama had appointed the idiot warren as the "Head of the gay rights policies" i would understand this DRAMA, this idiot is only talking for like what 2 fucking minutes, i don't get this crazy.
  • scottinsf · 11 months ago
Dude. You're talking to yourself there. Now that's crazy.

Take a break from this blog if it's not your bag. Of course we're drama queens. We're here hanging out at Aravosis' blog aren't we?
  • GaryBrush · 11 months ago
Where are the Muslims in the cabinet? Didn't Muslims overwhelming vote for Obama?
  • Carlton · 11 months ago
Obama was never the great progressive savior his myriad of supporters made him out to be - hence my early support of Hillary Clinton. At least you knew what you were getting with Hillary because you knew the people she surrounded herself with.

The US is a conservative nation - no surprise that our politics reflect that.
  • Merlin · 11 months ago
"It might be diverse, but not everyone is happy."

I am very happy with his cabinet! Do not know what women you have been talking too, nut, you have not been talking to me or my girls.
  • JD_Rhoades · 11 months ago
Bill Clinton and President Bush each had a comparable number of women in their first Cabinets, but women's groups say they hoped they'd make progress.

Amy Siskind, co-founder of the nonpartisan group New Agenda, accuses Obama of taking "shocking steps backward" and said "this constituency does not matter to the president-elect."

Get your story straight. Is it "the numbers are comparable, but we wanted more" or "We're going backwards"?

You know, I have been a fan of this blog and I was disappointed in the Warren invitation, too, but this knee-jerk Obama bashing really is starting to get ridiculous. It's starting to sound as confused and irrational as Michell Malkin or NoQuarter at their looniest. "Any opinion, even if it's self-contradictory, so long as it's anti-Obama!"
  • drtrae · 11 months ago
I agree with your comments. I think we have to give Obama a chance, for heaven sakes. The man hasnt even taken office yet..
  • Garrett in SF · 11 months ago
At least women were invited to the table. How many LGBT members are there? None.
  • MN USA · 11 months ago
I'll be happy when the Supreme Court looks like the rest of the United States: 51% women with Black, Asian, Indian, Hispanic and White judges proportionate to the population.
  • Tank · 11 months ago
If Obama doesn't make the Warren choice, this post never makes it to the site. Hypcorites.
  • RepoMan · 11 months ago
C'mon dude, I'm a Republican, and even I'm pretty impressed with Obama's cabinet. Let up a little, at least in the spirit of the holidays.
  • bish8 · 11 months ago
For a minute I thought I was at the Right Wing News site. What has happened to America blog lately?
  • RepoMan · 11 months ago
Republicans expect Obama to be able to use his clout in that part of the world to win the Iraq war, and renegotiate the SOFA and PSAs that actually benefit AMERICA instead of the IRAQIS.
