AMERICAblog: So I assume Stephanopoulos is going to be quizzing McCain on Sunday about adultery and making propaganda videos for the North Vietnamese?

    exactly.

choosing a president is a very personal decision, and personally, no man who calls his wife "cunt" in public should be considered presidential material, even if said wife teases him about his thinning hair.

    talk about unpatriotic.

The only Senator who survived the Keating Five scandal was the only one with an "R" after his name. Its funny, but that is the way of sexual scandals, as well. For instance, Senator Vitter and Senator Craig are still serving, but any Democrat, like Spitzer, who gets caught IMMEDIATELY and I mean IMMEDIATELY has to resign in disgrace. Its always the same old story. Scandal? You are GONE if you are a Democrat, but you can even run for President if you are a Republican. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the narrative and who is getting paid to "write the stories and read them" in our media.

I think we should hold a march on ABC if George Stephanapolous and their moderators blow kisses at McCain! Again, I think the media is reaching a tipping point and if they don't want their moderators to start REALLY getting heckled during debates they better start getting a lot more fair. Of course, this doesn't mean that Stephanapolous and friends decide they've had a religious conversion and this means they are their typical ass kissing selves towards Republicans. This means they had better ask questions like John posed above or its gonna be OBVIOUS just how biased they are.

I had actually hoped ABC was changing--after all, they were the only network to investigate the Cheney Torture Team. It's a wonder that investigation wasn't killed also. (It's also sad virtually no other news outlets picked it up.)

So once again we have clear evidence of the US media getting its marching orders from the Rove playbook. The strangehold is clear and obvious; and the people remain powerless. Just another day in Neocon America.

I'll bet you any amount of money McCain gets asked a question about what it's like to be a "maverick." James Garner should storm the set and say, "I know Maverick, and you, sir, are no Maverick."

The really sad thing is that the Dems, as usual, have done nothing to change this situation since they took over Congress. I don't want to hear any BS about them having a thin majority. The truth is if they bang that drumhead loudly and refuse to move forward on any Neocon appointees or bills, use the power of the purse-strings, they could stop the Neocons in their tracks.

Clint Curtis, the FL election fraud whistleblower running against the congressman who allegedly hired him to write vote-flipping software in 2000, explains why: "They are basically a status quo operation. They want to raise money. I don’t think they really care that much about beating the Republicans, because if they stay equal, it’s all status quo. They’re calling each other names so they can raise money. It’s kind of sad, but I think that’s where they are."

So there you go. Counting on the Dems to effect change—as we’ve seen, that leads to crushing disappointment. There are about five Dems right now with any real fight in 'em, and NONE of them are hitting hard on the big media blackout issues like election fraud. The rest are all cowering wimps and Bush enablers. If we are to survive, we seriously have to get a more fighters in there. Check out my interview with Curtis here: http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5866#more-5866 and if you can throw him even 5 bucks, please do so at http://www.clintcurtis/com/contribute.htm. The man is the real deal--a true progressive, and a fighter with a spine. Curtis also has a crucial fund-raising deadline for the filing fee coming up on 4/30 and needs contributions now.

The only way we'll ever change the dialogue in this country is via a massive spine transplant into Congress. Curtis is one of the few guys out there throwing heat. Let’s get his back.

All I ever needed to know about how craven and spineless McCain is was the way that he became Best Friends Forever with Rove and Bush after the dasterdly duo attacked McCain's wife and child during the 2000 election.

I have no respect for someone who would kiss the ass of anyone who attacked their family or friends.
It demonstrated to me that McCain is the worst type of craven politician, someone who would throw his own family to the wolves for personal gain.

I hold the elderly in high esteem, they've worked their whole life and endured through some very tough conditions. Thats the point, they did those things in their prime, they were up to the task and managed well. I don't know where the line of thinking goes that says people in their 70's somehow can run things. There is a retirement age for almost every job, there should be one for President.

    BETTER YET:
What negative affect has being tortured and psychologically broken in Vietnam had on his ability to think clearly, communicate with others, and maintain sound judgment while under pressure.

Virtually all Vietnam POW who were tortured experience long term emotional and mental problems such as Post Tramatic Stress Disorder which can affect judgment and day to day abilities. These effects typically affect a person for the remainder of their life.

He seems to have coped OK, but how can we be assured McCain won't go off on the deep end and put the world at risk with psychological and neurological damage he experienced?

Or are we to assume that all American POWs betray their country while in captivity, right?)

A large number of the Hanoi Hilton occupants signed 'confessions' to avoid being tortured to death. Many POWs who stuck to the letter of their military oaths and their training and refused to make 'confessions' did not survive captivity.
I don't blame McCain for signing some bullshit oath and making a meaningless statement to save his life.

Having said that, the KKKarl Roves of the world would crucify him for it if he were a Dem. Look what they did to decorated Vietnam combat veteran John Kerry. It just reinforces what scum Rethugs really are. Karma got Lee Atwater in the end.

    As to the adultry: http://www.usvetdsp.com/mcaindiv.htm

"While he was imprisoned, (his first wife) Carol was in an auto wreck (1969), thrown through her car's windshield and left seriously injured. Despite her injures, she refused to allow her POW husband to be notified about her condition, fearing that such news would not be good for him while he was being held prisoner.

When McCain returned to the United States in 1973 after more than five years as a prisoner of war, he found his wife was a different person. The accident "left her 4 inches shorter and on crutches, and she had gained a good deal of weight."
    ...
While still married to Carol, McCain began an adulterous relationship with Cindy. He married Cindy in May 1980 -- just a month after dumping Carol and securing a divorce."

What is it with republicans who dump their wives when they become sick?

Too bad it will never happen. Frankly, although this would certainly be fair play, we shouldn't have to drag McCain through the mud to beat this pathetic pack of self-centered anarchists.

While I do not believe that being shot down and captured makes one a "hero," should we detract from John McCain's actual sacrifice? After all, he had a family well placed enough that he could have remained out of harms way in Vietnam. At his age in Vietnam, he was certainly over that "I can't die" illusion that most of our young combatants feel. Usually that only lasts until the first real enemy missile lock scares the shit out of you, or the first AK-47 round slams into the wall over your head. No, I have to conclude that he served his country with the same degree of honor and commitment as any of us who fought. And infinitely more than either Bush, Cheney, or a host of other "heros" in this pathetic administration.

So I really have no interest in seeing McCain denegrated by questions that could (should) be raised about his numerous imperfections. I simply want every Democrat to get off their ass and VOTE. If you, yourself, love America then VOTE. If democrats and most decent middle-roaders voted, there is no way possible for McCain to win. And if you don't go to the effort to vote, please leave patriotism out of your conversation.

George Stephanopopo sure did choose a spectacular venue to come out as an outward flak and lackey of the Clinton campaign. George should ask for a yes or no on the GI Bill. Does he agree with Bush that withholding benefits from our soldiers is the best way to force them to re-up?

And some tought questions about the Keating Five.

And, yes, given that he is running as a war hero, please explain those propaganda tapes? Would John Wayne have done that?

And precisely what sort of torture did he endure? And is that the same sort of turture he would encourage the CIA to use?

And was it effective in getting him to reveal vital military information? And if not, then why shoud we use it?

And won't you share with us the moment of your religious conversion, when you found that the Baptist Church was the one true church? Do you believe that Episcopalians are apostate?

What are your plans for rebuilding all of the government agencies that Bush has trashed by appointing political hacks to run them?

And why he is breaking the campaign finance law that he himself wrote?

And does he believe that the President is above the law, as GWB has repeatedly stated?

And if elected, will he continue to wire-tap without a warrant?

And why does he hire so many Washington lobbyists to run his campaign?

And given his wealth, would he call himself an elitist?

And is it true that he fathered an illegitimate black child? And if not, what does he think of those who would use such a rumor for their own political advantage?

But no, George will ask him what he had for breakfast. And does he enjoy being called a maverick. And then slobber all over him in gratitude for allowing the interview.
  • rewinn · 1 year ago
I think definitely George will ask him no hard questions. There are different rules for Republicans than for Democrats.

Personally, everyone should lay off McCain & Vietnam. It was a long time ago, and no-one should be blamed for what they do under torture.

But McCain should know that torture's main use is to extract false confessions. Asking him about THAT would be fair.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Wmforr: These are very relevant questions. As an African American though, I'll ask you to go easy on the 'illegitimacy" issue with respect to his father.

The very question would denote that the elder McCain has fathered something "less-than", and that this is something that both McCain and his father have to answer for.

Be careful, he may answer, "Hell yes, it's true, and I'm damn proud of it."

We democrats should be beyond 'those' kind of issues--but then, perhaps we're not.

Kerry, it's safe to assume that McC gave behind the scene assurances to the Israeli gov't, but one does have to wonder about his statement regards cutting their funding. Aid, slave-ish aid, to Israel is a cornerstone of conservative politics, especially fundie conservative politics that McC actively courts.
