AMERICAblog: So much for family privacy

  • Indigo · 1 year ago
I had the idea that sex with a 17 year-old constitutes statutory rape. Maybe things really are different in Alaska.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Actually, the laws in most states are more lenient than that.
  • donotmakemecomedownthere · 1 year ago
The age of consent is 16 in Alaska.
  • rexkc · 1 year ago
John, you seem to know a lot about statutory rape in various states. Is there something you're not telling us? ;->
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
    That I'm a lawyer? :-)
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
Galling. The hypocrisy is just galling. Just imagine for a moment if it was one of Obama's daughters, and they had the father out on stage. Republican America would lose its mind.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
    Oh they're biting their tongues
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
Why are the fundies not losing their minds?
  • Cjeffery · 1 year ago
It is not a personal issue, Her mom's policy's did not work for her own daughter and they won't work for the nation. New video of her speaking at church is great. We should only go to war if it is in god's will and that is a quote from her not her preacher. Man they hammered obama on this it is time for them to get some of there own medcine we need to hold off until the Nominate her for sure though and wheres Clinton it would be great if the attacks came from her.
  • Cjeffery · 1 year ago
Also why was it not personal family issue with Edwards? We reported on that how is this any diffrent. I don't care to hear about it and it seems to be helping her with her base but I think there is some question that need to be answered. Does she now belive she needs to change her stance on Sex ED?
  • Lisaleesa · 1 year ago
The parties went on well into the night as people were evacuating their homes. Brian Ross reported on it here: http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Brian_Ross_Republ...

The Republicans make the rules and can change them at whim.

ok, i've just been reading the local newspaper and the conservatives are circling the wagons around the Palins. They are golden, they practice conservative family values, they are only human, they deserve their privacy, there's not a family in America that hasn't experienced these hardships...and on and on.

i say: we cannot let up one single bit. call out the lies, the corruption, the hypocrisy, the religious extremism, the lack of experience, poor judgement, the un-American affiliations...all of it. Make sure everyone knows everything about Sarah Palin.
  • coolcatdaddy · 1 year ago
They're rallying behind her because she's as psychologically screwed up as they are. Right wingnuts are pros at denial.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
I love the "there's not a single family..." bullshit. My sister and I managed to make it through our teens without getting knocked up, thanks very much! We were young, but not stupid.
  • Ellie · 1 year ago
    Ditto!
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
totally. i swear they make up these fairy tales about sin and repentance and redemption just to give themselves an out so they can screw around and do whatever they want...

it's like...if we're all sinners, we might as well get out there and sin! who cares! woo hoooo! and there they are in church on Sunday, judging everyone else...growl.
  • serge · 1 year ago
Anyone...Bueller? This shit would be depressing if it wasn't so over the top. I don't want to be amused by it all...I just can't help it.

Check out the t-shirt that Palin was wearing

    http://perezhilton.com/2008-09-02-this-photo-is...

'A photo of John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate, Alaska Governor Sara Palin, during her college days in the '80s.

The t-shirt reads: "I May Be Broke, But I'm Not Flat Busted." '

Who knew trailer trash could withstand 6 months of winter?
  • ronfromnh · 1 year ago
the neocon scum have wallowed in this kind of character assination and dirty tricks for 40 years, starting with nixon. who can forget watergate, iran contra, willie horton, etc., etc. i, for one, am very happy that these chickens are coming home to roost. i would like be above that crap but it works so well, we can't be. let's bring up all their dirty laundry. the more the merrier.
  • Rufus · 1 year ago
Maybe Sarah can get McCain to appoint Levi as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. I understand he has military experience -- well, he did see a soldier once at the bus station.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    Good one, Rufus.
  • coolcatdaddy · 1 year ago
Getting the young man there may be an attempt to portray him taking responsibiity for pregnancy to see if they can get the story out of the news so the Reps can go back to their theme of "More Gloom and Doom With McCain't".

I can't see how it would help.

I'm wondering how soon they're going to drop Palin from the ticker ... err, I mean ... when family matters will take precedence and she has to tactfully decline the position. Palin's not helping them in the polls and the problems with her just keep coming out.

I really believe she's gonna be toast. The question is: who's next in line for the VP slot? Do they have anyone that can save the ticket?

The implosion of the Republican party is the most fascinating train wreck it's been my privilege to watch in many years.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
They will look like the babies they are. Shame on the perverts encouraging this marriage.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
I'm starting to think that we'd be better off keeping her. instead of some sterile white haired guy, we get a visual of what the evangelicals want for America. Bristol is preggo, her not yet hubby apparently is now a high school drop out, Track was forced to enlist, Dad has a driving problem that seems to interfere with his drinking, and they are secessionists. Yeehaw! Tune into tomorrow...
  • interlude · 1 year ago
I have been thinking since sunday afternoon that Palin will vacate her nomination for “family reasons”.
but i am wondering now what sort of Commander in Chief McCain will look like if his candidate is replaced at the last minute.
i dunno…but either way i think he is hurt. bad.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Why did this Levi boy and the pregnant little girl decide to wait to get married if 17 year olds can marry in Alaska? I wonder if the little boy knew he was going to have to marry the little girl before Monday when momma told the United States they were making plans to get married.
  • mf_roe · 1 year ago
Maybe they are waiting for the birth, just to make sure God want change his mind and take the baby back.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I wonder how this is different than Mormons making their children marry young.
  • mf_roe · 1 year ago
Spent time in Idaho, I'm pretty sure most Mormon kids are virgins when they marry. They are more likely to follow their beliefs than many Fundies. I respect them for walking the talk. If the Fundies had to do that they would be a little more reasonable. Sadly, hypocrisy suits them better.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
he still had a bit of 'f---n chillin' left to do.
  • DeborahS · 1 year ago
If they wait ,the mother's medical bills will be paid by the grandparants medical insurance. The baby's won't but mom's will because she would be covered.
  • DemVet · 1 year ago
Has anyone thought of asking palin what she thinks of Mary Lesbian Cheney having and raising a baby with her sexual (yuk! god forbid) partner? Take that, religious right {sic}!
  • MGBYG · 1 year ago
    Uh...if this was a Dem's kid....

I think it is still 21 to drink inside the state, no?
  • PhilipGraham · 1 year ago
They'll be there to underline the Palin speech, which will claim victimhood by the "vicious" media attacks on her and her family. It'll be a new Nixon "Checkers" speech. Larry King already got a taste.

Democrats be careful--you play this too hard, you'll play right into Republican hands, with Palin garnering sympathy from women who know what it's like to be railroaded.

Of course, that's not the truth of the matter concerning her disastrous selection, but that's how'll they'll play it. Remember, Republicans, like all sociopaths, are good at playing the victim.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
How is she getting railroaded, Philip?
  • PhilipGraham · 1 year ago
As I said, "that's not the truth of the matter." But they'll try to make it appear so.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
the only women falling for this bullshit were already in the GOPer prayer circle.

it is essential to get all the facts out to the public and it's possible to do that in a very intelligent way, like Rob did in the post below. McCain/Rove counted on being able to hide all this stuff to pass Palin off as Little Miss Perfect, and she is not that.
  • PhilipGraham · 1 year ago
Absolutely understood. Still, the Republicans are very good at diverting attention from the facts, and they will try their best this convention. Claiming that the big bad media is unfair is their usual gambit.

    We won't get fooled again?
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
there is that "have the baby" again.

She plans to, so I guess this is 'family planning' and 'planned parenthood'. :)
  • MalibuBarbie · 1 year ago
Good for Bristol! She wouldn't go along with the "prego coverup". Girl, that's the way to stand up to your zombie wingnut Mom.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
    Z z z z z z z z z z z z z
Someone set off some firecrackers. The audience looks like they're all falling asleep.
  • Yukio · 1 year ago
why do i have this strange feeling that Mrs./Governor/<cough> General Palin is going to be performing her own daughter's marriage at the convention in the next couple of days?
  • Redphilly · 1 year ago
Is pistol-packing Momma Palin telling this child if he doesn't marry her he will go to jail for statutory rape? Hmmm. Bristol may have done this just to get the attention of a mother who is too busy running Alaska to pay attention to her. This often happens. What about the other daughter? Is she going to follow in her sister's footsteps because she also has a mother who because of her job has no choice but to oftentimes ignore her?. The media glossed over the fact that Bristol was out of school for months before Trigg came on the scene.
