AMERICAblog: So when is Sarah Palin paying $50,000 in taxes on the $150,000 in clothes the RNC gave her?

    Reposting

Palin got $150,000 in clothes. Now they say that they were always going to donate the clothes to charity. Just what charity has people that need donations of designer clothes? Are the CEO's of AIG or Lehman brothers in need of clothes for their family? Are the clothes going to be donated to charity and end up on the backs of someone really in need? Will we see someone at a shelter wearing an outfit that Palin wore? And finally do you think that the clothes will end up at Salvation Army or Goodwill.

There are charities that specifically cater to women who are getting a fresh start in the business world. Can't remember the names off hand but I have donated suits and other items to them. They help women who are escaping from abusive relationships and had to leave their belongings behind, house fire destroyed all their work apropriate clothing, etc.

I just hope to God no one gets that horendous red pleather jacket.

This was news to me. Thanks for the enlightenment. You learn something everyday.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
yes there are... but I really doubt that the clothes will make it to any charity except the "Governor's Charity for Failed VP Candidates"

Oh, and those "back to work" clothes for women don't end up being high-end designer duds, IF they were to be donated to an organization like that, they wouldn't make it past the "screeners" to the women who actually needed them... (yes, I'm a bit cynical, but the best stuff never makes it to the folks it's meant for.)

and are they going to donate the kids and Todd's clothes as well??? and you can't donate the tons of makeup and hair dye...

Of course, Palin is no stranger to failing to report her taxable income

Required to be a member of the Republican party in good standing. If you can't cheat on taxes, you can't be a Republican.

Between the tax liabilities that Sharia Plan has accumulated with her "per diem" for staying at home, travel for her children (not on business either pay tax on income or reimburse) and now her clothes one has to ask whether the chimp's pardon authority extend to tax liabilities and penalties or if she is just going to be another victim of Joe Biden's bankruptcy bill?

    Talk about poetic justice.

I've been buying clothes, books, CD's, household 'stuff' at thrift stores for years.........I wear labels I couldn't/wouldn't pay for new and that's part of the reason I'm financially secure right now........it's called 'living BELOW one's means'.....

Give me a break, you whining fools...you are obviously terrified of the power this woman has. What about Obama's Greek Columns at his DNC speech...how much did they cost? How about the $20 MILLION plus he has spent of YOUR money on polling...I bet you could use $20 million, couldn't you? Why don't you find out how much of YOUR money he spends on FOOD in his campaigning?

Keep shouting, a fool shines the brightest when they're scared, angry and shouting.

Hey Victory Troll - Obama pays for all his shit and also pays his taxes. He has demonstrated how he would manage the money of the country by how he manages his own money and that of his campaign. So has McCain, and Palin. Anybody, ehm, actually WITH money and actually, ehm, paying taxes properly knows this. Is there no interweb under your bridge?

The Columns were free---a gift from the Gods, not the Democratic party.
Polling was official Dem business, covered as expenses.
Also food was expenses, NOT a luxury as dresses/makeup which are personal items. OR, is every woman in the RNC going to wear those hand me down dresses and take turns? And no I am NOT scared of that 3rd grader Sarah, she just keeps giving the gift of laughter and I'm sure Tina Fey will have more new material as a result. YOU BETCHA!!....now shooooooo get back over there.

We almost agree except that you are the fool. Anyone who can't see that Palin is a millstone drowning/drowned the McCain campaign has to have substantial mental deficiencies. At this point, the McCain campaign is not the Titanic going down it is the Poisidon Adventure. The wisest and best of the Republicans have already switched to supporting Obama and the usual reason they cite is McCain's poor, poor judgment in choosing Palin, but I also think the catastrophic possibility of a Palin presidency also terrifies them. Yep! Even most Republicans now regard Palin as a potential disaster for the Republican party, the nation but also the world.

LOL - The adventure is lengthy and dramatic like the Poseidon Aventure for sure, but there were survivors of it as well as the Titanic. I would rather compare the fate of the McCain campaign ship to the that of the Mary Celeste.

well the comparison to stadium props would imply that all the convention speakers were wearing the greek columns. but you could argue that she is renting the clothes from the RNC. unlike plane tickets for your kids, you can return rented clothes. the question is what is the reasonable rate for $150,000 worth of rented clothes. that's what she has to pay. tuxedoes rent at about 10% of the purchase price. if that's any indication, she is on the hook for about $15,000, assuming she is not keeping anything more than a day.
  • green_libertarian · 1 year ago
God. Get a clue. She'll put these clothes up on E-Bay and millions of repuke MILF freaks will bid on them, final bid garnering FAR more than the RNC paid for them, proceeds to charity.

How whe writes that off on her taxes will be interesting, however.

"Victory" is the one who sounds desperate to me.

Palin is giving a sworn deposition in troopergate this Friday. CNN is reporting that the report will come out before election day. Beautiful. Another unexpected gift from the gods. They will come to the same basic and obvious conclusions the last one did. It could be worse this time because she might lie under oath. Also, the personnel board investigation also has the power to impose penalties.

She is going to be branded twice in October as unethcal - the 2nd time around by an investigation she called fair and cooperated with.

Did anyone read the first report? It was a fascinating insight into the way her governor's office operates.
  • KISSman · 1 year ago
Well, we all know that she will not pay a dime in taxes on these clothes. Politicians like these are above the law. Either they'll find a way out of it or somehow she'll magically aquire the money to pay the taxes on them. All I know is that Sarah Palin won't ever pay a dime of her own real money towards this because she's as corrupt as any other Republican.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Tax man says she has to declare the clothes as income...
  • JamesR · 1 year ago
This is so reminiscent of that Andy Griffith episode where Aunt Bea won a fur coat and was so happy - until she learned she had to pay taxes on it as income and couldn't afford to keep it. So Sad. For Aunt Bea. (Insert debate rhetoric here,) Sarah, you ain't no aunt Bea.

Sarah will find some way to write it off. But that's another story.

And - new comment, not an edit - I have just been hearing on the Teevee how it's 'OK' that Palin may not have actually received all that much as she may have already "returned" some of the clothing. Like, AFTER she's worn it? Like a cheap skank??

My first job was in retail, and it was eye-opening the things people would try and get away with when returning things - often done in inverse proportion to their actual ability to pay for the items. That is, many a well off customer would return an item AFTER wearing it at a party or whatever. Like nobody knows what they did. Completely classless. Causing a LOSS to the business. Quite impressive to 'Joe store manager' that is.

Usually this knowledge is confined to the sales and management staff of the store (and any customers who see.) Most people don't really want to talk about this sort of thing, they have the good sense to realize how bad it sounds - but for someone to be actually saying it's OK for her to use clothes and then return them so she gets a re-do or freebie - My God - WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? (I guess we do indeed know who these people are.) The complete lack of shame and principles and conscience and just plain decency is still shocking every time I see a new instance of it.
