When will the Republicans ever be called out for their obstruction? Obama is not even President yet and there is already talk of filibustering supreme court nominees (that haven't been named yet), and now this on Holder. From what I've read, I'm not a fan of Holder, but, as the Republicans say, the President should be given deference and lattitude to have the people he wants in his cabinet. Remember McCain and Hatch intoning "elections have consequences" for the last 8 years? I just wish someone would tell them to s**k on it.

    "SUCK ON IT YOU PUKES!!!"

    There. Feel better, Nance'?

Yeah. The show must go on, hunh? Looks like the f*cking *ssholes on both sides of the aisle didn't get the message. Guess we'll have to send another one in 2010, and another one in 2012: No more partisan crap, no more corporatist "liberals" or "conservatives." Represent the people who voted for you, and the interests of those whose taxes feed you, your family and your "friends," or GET THE F*CK OUT!!!

Start by taking over your local Party of choice. The rot starts at the so-called grass roots, and the cure needs to start there, too.

    Gregory,

    Good to see you post!!

    It's been a while ;)

Now don't get booted from here to fast.... We need to counter the dream like Obamafication that might put some DEMS here in a dreamy state.

    ;)

Listen, after Bush, Obama knows we have to crawl a little before we can walk. Eight years of hell is hard to get rid of. I don't expect Holder to do a damn thing about pot, except perhaps to decriminalize it slowly on Obama's orders...there is no reason to jail people who are just holding. However, violent criminal acts committed because of drugs need to be stopped.
  • High Crimes & Misdemeanors · 1 year ago
Whats there to crawl about? I mean really? We already know that pot does not cause one to be violent. I don't like holder as Attorney General. He's been wrong on many of issues. As Tbhull wrote; "Holder's role in the Rich pardon is worthy of scrutiny." Among other things as well. Two words: Chiquita Bananas

Unfortunately we have a DEM party that acquiesce to right wing ideology/bullshit/REPUKES to the point of practically whimpering. That's never gonna change until we get a true progressive mindset in.

I will hold my full throttle smack against Obama and his Clintonistas for a little while to see if change really will happen. But several of these Cabinet picks are atrocious to say the least.

    Where are the democratic 527s?

When Alito and the other Nazi were up for nomination, Wingnut third-party groups were blanketing the airwaves calling for a fast "up or down vote."

Hardon Sphincter, as we prefer to call him, is showboating for his inevitable re-election bid. Of course, this despicable pol should have been sent to the knacker's yard two cycles ago . . .
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Well, they're already hunkering down to obstruct the auto "bailout" with Richard Shelby (Obstructionist-AL) and DeMint (Idiot-SC) leading the charge. Funny that both have foreign auto companies operating in their states, two of the worst in education, high in unemployment, and AL gets $1.27 for every $1 it send to DC in taxes. They've paid out tens of millions of the taxpayers' money to snag these companies. I expect no less on Obama's nominees. No unions, "right to work" states that care nothing for their inhabitants.

Face it, people, Rethugs hate you if you're not rolling in dough...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
They just want to kill the unions, and if they have to kill the auto industry to do it, they'll do that too.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
They call unions "communist" but they're so ignorant they don't realize that unions are basically reformist organizations that don't necessarily want to change our form of govt, but do, however, believe in surplus value, and are determined to get more of it for the workers who actually do the work.

Holder's role in the Rich pardon is worthy of scrutiny.
  • MyVoice · 1 year ago
Sen. Leahy will make sure to get the hearing started in his time frame. Pat does not take any BS from the GOP- I remember Cheney swearing at him!
  • Cojonudo · 1 year ago
Republicans are scum. Period. When the Democrats resign themselves to that and start treating them like scum, we can go ahead and cleaning up the mess the was created primarily by the Republicans. Unfreakinbelievable...
  • RonTunning · 1 year ago
I do suspect that Sen. Specter and the Republicans will learn quickly that the American people have no tolerance for their bullshit. Indeed, we should begin emailing them now to let them know we oppose their efforts to obstruct a smooth transition and a restoration of integrity at the Department of Justice.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Obama's pre-inaugural approval rating is higher than Clinton's, and of course, Bush's.

People want to get things done, and quickly. Obama has already planned to do twice as much to help Americans than Bush did in 8 years.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
After the bullshit was the Bush lawn boy/AG/embrrassment/fraud Alberto Gonzalez, the attorney General must be squeaky clean.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Someone has the goods on Al. It doesn't look sunny for him lately. Something is there to be prosecuted, but it will have to wait until Bush is out.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Look for a pardon being floated Alberto's way.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
The Republican Pod People have incredible gall obstructing approval of Eric Holder after the crackpot IDIOTS Bush named for Attorney General. All 3 of his Attorney Generals are at the top of the list of Worst Attorney General in American history.
  • High Crimes & Misdemeanors · 1 year ago
Boy Joe, you must be living in la-la-land if you think the DEMS are gonna put up a fight.

    harry-bend-like-a-ried will do just that....
  • cole3244 · 1 year ago
tell specter there is a magic bullet somewhere around wash and he will go off to find it and stay out of the way for a long time.
  • TheOriginalLiz · 1 year ago
The republicans are capable of nothing constructive, only obstructive.
  • anarchy · 1 year ago
who can even take Arlen "single bullet
    theory" Specter seriously??

the man has been little more than a tool
for decades now - the good people of
    Pennsylvania should hang their heads
in shame for keeping this asshat in office.
  • gonzalez · 1 year ago
This is what the republicans in the Senate will do for the next four years - and then they will tell us that the democrats can't govern and some of the idiots will believe them. Just watch!
  • MichaelS · 1 year ago
Actually, the best choice for AG would have been Patrick Fitzgerald -- is ti too late for that??
  • jiminportlandoregon · 1 year ago
TOTALLY agree with you on this.
  • scytherius · 1 year ago
Let em stay at it. 65 in the Senate in 2010 looking good.
  • jiminportlandoregon · 1 year ago
Arlen Specter, probably second only to LIEberman in self-absorption, is a scumbag. The bottom line is this: It was Clinton, not Holder, who pardoned Marc Rich. While I think the whole issue of blanket pardons deserves another look, as it stands now, it is perfectly permissable. Specter, I'm sure, wants to know EXACTLY what the process was in pardoning Rich. Not only that, he wants the enitre world to know and figures he can get the information while Holder is being confirmed. As far as I'm concerned, it's none of anyone's fucking business how or why it happened - it can't be changed so why ruminate over it? I hope that the Democrats, for once, can strap on pair and let Specter know, in no uncertain terms, that he can take a hike.

Up or down vote! Up or down vote! Up or down vote! Nope, no hypocrisy there, Republicans, none at all.
  • pat · 1 year ago
    New Senate convenese Jan 8th,
Seems like Jan 9th they can start confirmation hearings so that
everyone is in place and ready to move in on the 20th.
  • Greg · 1 year ago
"LET the games begin" should have been the lede. The republicans are on a losing streak. The nation has spoken. In the words of our Dear Leader, "Bring it on."
  • jeffg166 · 1 year ago
If Arlen doesn't drop dead first he'll be history in 2010.
  • Jamey · 1 year ago
Specter has to tack hard right to save his party's nom in '10. But he played this one pretty clumsily. He could have grandstanded during the Senate confirmation hearing, getting maximum face-time and dramatic impact. I mean, announcing his intention--when most cabinet posts are being filled, and to great acclaim? It's so obvious about it, that even Pennsylvania Republicans' intelligence likely will be insulted.
  • Roger · 1 year ago
Very intresting thread. I seem to remember that the dems have used all the tools at thier disposal to block, limit, and obstruct the other party when they were in the minority. This is nothing new. Grow up, it what politics have come to in America today. You demonize what you don't agree with. You lie about anything and everything to get your way. Civility left the scene years ago. It's both parties. Dems can be a little meaner and more shrill, but its all of them. The thing that worries me most are the people who fall lock step behind their party, with out doing thier own fact finding. My party is AMERICAN and I can not stand where the donkey and elephant are leading us
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
I think the Rich pardon was reprehensible, but the blame lies at Big Dog's feet. Lawyers are allowed to make livings representing reprehensible people, and indeed the most reprehensible people possible are allowed representation by law under our Constitution. Big Dog's wife will skate through her confirmation hearings even though she may have benefited from the Rich pardon while Spector will use the pardon as an excuse to go after Holder. Go figure. I think Spector is after something else, maybe a guarantee from the Democrats that Bush and his administration will be off the hook in January and will not be investigated for any crimes.
