AMERICAblog: St. Pete Times eviscerates McCain and his campaign strategy of "lies and distortions"

  • slappymagoo · 1 year ago
I'd agree that McCain's gamble isn't paying off if:
1: Obama was up by way more in the polls, even after taking into consideration every way the media could possibly manipulate the questions or cherry-pick the people polled to make it look closer
2: There were more slams like this from the MSM. If it doesn't happen now, it never will.

As it is, the Roveian touch for McCain doesn't seem to be about a single knockout punch, but a slow chipping away of shaky Obama supporters or potential Obama supporters: "If you don't believe THIS lie, wait a couple of days, we gotta million of 'em!" Sooner or later, enough people might believe ONE of the smears, or at least, the smears will generally give people enough concern to either vote McCain, or stay home (which is just as good as far as the McCain camp is concerned). Here's hoping I'm wrong, and we'll see more honesty like this within the press.

Yeah, they're just throwing chaff around, hoping something sticks in people's eyes.

    It could work.

Nobody ever lost an election by underestimating the intelligence of the American voter.

Finally, the MSM has seen this cranky old man for what he truly is: McInsane!
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
"I'm desperate, really old, angry and cancer ridden, John McCain, and I approve this message!"
  • MikeinSanJo · 1 year ago
Funny. Grampy McSame created his own self-fulfilling prophesy. He spent so many weeks telling us how the press was biased toward Obama, while his campaign put out negative and false ad after negative and false ad.

Suddenly the press stopped ignoring Grampy in his early-onset alzheimers and his drug addicted alcohol heiress multi-millionaire wife - who pays for Grampy's Depends Undergarments and supports his failing presidential campaign - and started paying attention to what he was saying. They are looking at what Obama is actually doing and saying and not just at what Grampy SAYS Obama is doing and saying.

Seems the press has suddenly decided that being a failed fighter pilot - shot down, captured, and creating anti-American videos (not to be confused with our current deserter-in-cheerleader-chief) is not necessarily the only "qualification" for president, no matter how much the republican party salivates over these anti-government traitors and calls them heroes.

I'm asking for a show of hands... Who thinks Pat Tillman would have caved if he had been captured by the enemy instead of being murdered by his compatriots?

"Honor" means doing what is right no matter what the cost or consequences, not just doing what serves your purpose for the moment, Grampy!! If Grampy were truly a hero, he would have sacrificed himself rather than besmirch the name and integrity of the nation that sent him to war.

McShame is an embarrassment and an insult to every man and woman sent to war to clean up the messes he created.

God, McCain just looks like a sick, angry, old man. Bless his heart, I hope he survives the campaign... He is AGING before our very eyes. Better watch out for McCain's V.P. pick. Republicans know that is who will be serving out McCain's term when he has a coronary or all those years sunburning his lily white skin takes its eventual toll. The man is just too old, sick and crazy to be President.
  • hardeknox · 1 year ago
He's only campaigning weekdays. It's a full time job. He can't spend all weekend making bbq and getting baby oil handjobs from the doper. Bush has been the most part timer in the office so far, and he's in good shape. McKept has some long days he's going to regret. Ferd Thompson was too lazy to take on a real campaign, and he only lasted a few weeks. He started tired and finished exhausted. JM is not as healthy already.

That's because Insane McCain IS A SICK, ANGRY, OLD MAN. Plus he's got to be worried that Miss Cindi might just be lookin around for, how can I put this gently, someone with a little more lead in his pencil. After all she has needs too, well I mean beyond the stolen drugs. Perhaps he doesn't remember they first carried on an adulterous affair, so he ought to realize she wouldn't be above doing it again if, well you know. if the right opportunity came around. Face it John, you're past the point where she would even be able to get her deposit back on the empty, and once thing sure about you old man is thatg you ARE empty: empty of ideas, empty of vision, empty of honor. So just keep shaking your stick at the cloud and mumbling!
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
McRove just got what he deserved.

I think however that I would have been a little more brutal. It is time for the media to start questioning whether or not he is slipping into dementia.
  • Mikki --SE Pennsylvania · 1 year ago
No slipping about it; he is falling headlong into it.
  • paul94611 · 1 year ago
The rhetorical to McCain's assertions that Obama would rather loose a war than an election is that McCain would rather kill a few thousand veterans than fully fund the VA.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
McCain's campaign strategy seems like that of desperation. His first move should have been his last. I doesn't seem possible for him to pass himself off as less risky when he maintains a gaff a minute . The man was born punch dumb and won't stand for more than a few syllables in a debate. Obama's unflappability sense of tact should deflect any sympathy for a blithering old captain. I think Obama might stand back and watch McCain get all flustered on his own.The bottom percentile of his class, Capt. McCain, will come shining through. It won't be pretty. I don't feel like his express is bound for Mt. Victory.

The News Hour with Jim Lehrer did a good piece on this tonight with Dan Balz and the guy from FactCheck.org

    FALSE INSINUATION was the verdict.

hardly matters who wins 'cuz Chimpy the Preznit has already set America on the road to it's inevitable destruction.

history has shown, TIME AND TIME AGAIN, that empires collapse upon themselves once their militaries are spread out too far.

Afghanistan? for centuries it has been a graveyard for those who try to
conquer - most recently, the Russians - and we're gonna be next, folks.

    America's ass is grass.
  • roooth · 1 year ago
I hate to pee on everyone's cornflakes, but this is race-baiting 101 & y'all seem to be missing it.

You gotta remember, this stradegy isn't aimed at you or me, it's aimed at the frothing mouthbreathers that love them some guns and some Rush. And they don't like blacks that don't know their place.

Ya gotta think 1950's. Ya gotta think like that white guy that just shot up the liberals at that church in Tennessee. Try to think like him for a minute. You hate everyone who isn’t a white guy and you think they’re all out to take what’s yours away from you: your job, your guns, your money, your women.

You’ve been hearing for days how “arrogant” Obama is. How “presumptIous” Obama is.

What’s another word, a slang term, for a black man who is arrogant and presumptious? The kind of word the church shooter guy and his supremacist friends would use?

The kind of word that would fit nicely with “nigger”. "Arrogant" + "nigger", hmmm, what's the word?

Oh yeah! Uppity, that's it. As in “uppity nigger”.

Next, juxtapose the arrogant black man/uppity nigger, smiling, alongside some pictures of scantily dressed, provacative young white women, and what do you have?

An uppity nigger who’s a threat to the white women.

Anyone who doesn’t think the GOP would stoop this low is seriously oblivious. This is straight out of their playbook. This is what they do.

McCain might have trouble with the Religious Right, but he’ll get the Klan and the Supremacists wrapped up with this kind of stuff. And more "middle Americans" than would ever admit it.

Make no mistake about whether they did this on purpose or what their motives are. Just because we don’t think like this, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t sink this low.

Their base really is this base.

The slack jawed useful idiot vote may not be enough this time.

Swing voters don't like having their intelligence insulted.
  • roooth · 1 year ago
Agreed, but this isn't aimed at swing voters. this is aimed at disaffected white bigots who might not even normally vote, but who could vote if they feel the white supremacy of America significantly threatened.

So this works nicely with the "Obama is a radiacl Muslim" lies.

Go to Snopes.com and do a search on Obama and take a look at the over 40 email campaigns circulating to spread vicious disinformation about Obama. Some of them are so stupid they are almost funny. But they aren't funny, they are dangerous. They are straight out of Nazi Germany's campaign to dehumanize Jews.

Take a look at them. I have received many of them, sent by "concerned people" who accept everything they say. These people would never go to Obama's site to get the facts. They believe all this crap. And they aren't the fringes.

Unless they are stopped, McCain's people will do this kind of surreptitious, dishonest, under the radar smear attacks until Election Day.

They need to be exposed and called out for what they are.

This is what we're up against
  • Eclectablog · 1 year ago
roooth, those people would have voted for McCain anyway. Why would he spend so much time and money convincing THEM???
  • roooth · 1 year ago
What about that looked particulatly expensive? And think of the bang for the buck they're getting with all the free air play it's getting on cnnmsnbcfoxabdcbs - and they get the benefit of their bloviators repeating the "arrogant" meme over and over again.

So they get McCain front and center and get to deflect from Obama's Euro trip and slur Obama AND further soldify the rabid right base, all for very little money.

Add to that the fact that the media seems oblivious to the racist code and is obsessing only on why they picked Britney & Paris and it probably looks like a win-win to Rove.

Next expect rumors of Obama defiling some flower of white womanhood and the assault will be complete; any hope of Obama winning the Carolinas, Tennessee or Virginia go up in the smoke from a burning cross.

These are evil people, they will enjoy doing this.

McCain is a 520 dollar shoe wearing whore who is using the "would you want him to date your daughter" eugenicist tactics
  • Cjeffery · 1 year ago
I went to see Obama today in Springfield mo and I could not believe how quick the tickets went and all the people. This area is considered a Replluican strong hold and I can tell you this type of negative ad's and same old policy are not working.
  • RenoAnne · 1 year ago
Fantastic ad. It hits back at grandpa, but it also says what Obama WILL do. It's been so long since grampa had anything about himself in one of his ads it almost seems like a fresh concept. Well done team Obama!
  • kiki · 1 year ago
St. Pete Times eviscerates McCain and his campaign strategy of "lies and distortions" and Obama campaign fights back with a new ad

It's about f*cking time they did something. I'm so sick of listening to this BS on the MSM and especially to people like Pat Buchannan and Tucker Carlson I want to vomit! Where the h*ll do these people come up with the ignorant crap they spew? It is never ending. Do they really think people listen to it anymore? Don't they think 7+ years of this BS is enough? Do they really think they can play this record again and people will listen?????? I don't think so!!!!!!! If, In addition, this elite and arrogant crap about Obama that is taking over the MSM daily is useless, ridiculous, idotic, and stupid. Do they really think intelligent people want to listen to 6th grad crap. These people need to "GROW UP AND GET A LIFE!" THEY ARE STUCK IN A TIME WARP. America is in a higher dimension now and they had better catch up because the days they are in are long gone.
  • kiki · 1 year ago
    PS

And where the h*ll did they come up with the (gag, puke) name "Maverick and Straight Talker for Mc Bush????????????????????????" It's laughable and the furthest thing from the truth!
  • Eclectablog · 1 year ago
So far I've been pretty happy with how well the Obama campaign has been responding to this tripe. They are leaving most of the anti-McCain stuff to outside groups and he's staying above the fray, running mostly positive (or at least not-so-nasty) ads and that's terrific, something I think a lot of people appreciate. I'd accuse them of running a defensive campaign but they've got McCain on the ropes on so many issues that it's clear that HE'S the one in defensive mode.

Now, if we could just turn the damn polls around... *sigh*
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
McCain chose this path. He sold whatever was left of his soul to the Rove machine.

    Whew!
