AMERICAblog: Still looking like it's Hill for State

  • martha · 1 year ago
Bill, Hill, Obama....bring it on! Turn this country around You can do it. YES WE CAN!
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
From all I have heard today, it's a done deal. MSM has pretty much announced it.
'Hillary Clinton will give up her Senate seat and accept the nomination for secretary of state, The New York Times reported Friday.'

I still don't get why anyone thinks that Hillary Clinton is a sensible choice for Secretary of State. She failed badly in the two biggest endeavors of her life-- trying to get a healthcare bill through Congress in the 90's, and running her own campaign for President this past year. She began the run for the White House as the presumptive nominee, with huge political momentum, the blessing of the Democratic Party establishment, all sorts of political and social connections, and $100 million in the bank. She had all of this before Obama even got into the race. And look what happened-- she surrounded herself with awful advisors and operatives (Mark Penn, Howard Wolfson, et al.) she mis-managed her money, she made a devious and sleazy attempt to steal votes from bogus elections in Michigan and Florida, and on and on. Her campaign was an embarrassment, and clear evidence that she has zero administrative ability.

On top of all that, she voted to launch the Iraq War, and she repeatedly voted to continue funding it. And now she ought to be our SOS? I keep waiting for someone to tell me just what Hillary Clinton's policy acheivements are-- I can't think of a single thing she has done that has made a significant positive impact. All the rest of Obama's Cabinet choices look good to me-- this one stinks. Further, she and her spouse bring all sorts of drama to Washington that we don't need.

Well said and I agree, eagleye.

Of course Obama should assemble the team he thinks will help him achieve his goals for the country. But I am hugely disappointed in his likely choice of Hillary, not so much because I dislike her but for the reasons you write: she has yet to demonstrate her administrative and leadership abilities.

I quite agree! The Cantankerous Cuckold is no match for Bill "Judas" Richardson in terms of qualifications for this role.
  • AdmNaismith · 1 year ago
People around the world know who she is and like her.
I'm just surprised she gave up a long-term career in the Senate for a maximum of 8 yrs to do this.
She could run for another office after this, but is more likely relegated to teaching, speechifying, and striaght-up public service.

whatevs...It's not like I'm an international household name.

"She could run for another office after this, but is more likely relegated to teaching, speechifying, and straight-up public service."

And be appointed to the Supreme Court, another office for which she is not qualified.

Sadly, people around the World know her!! She garners any respect from her husbands -just like her experience...She is a joke who showed her management and fiscal expertise in her campaign>

Her people skills are evident in the fact she spent 7+yrs in the Senate and has NOT ONE chairmanship to her name...

Any decsions she makes will look just like this leaky pail---full of holes and drama but no resolution!.

I don't think she is right for State. I'd rather see her take on a leadership role in the Senate, where we people of New York State elected her to be. State should go to someone with more international credibility, acumen and diplomacy, such as Wesley Clark. Let's put Hill on Universal Health Care perhaps, but not State.

Aw fer chrissakes, already, make it a done deal, announce it, and let's move on! Obama-Clintons foreplay is like watching paint dry.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
There are many centrists, both left and right, more comfortable with Hillary as SOS. I understand why he chose her.
She would not have been my first choice, but I am not unhappy with her.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I think we are going to have to acclimate to many "left" disappointments. Our Senators and Representatives have shown us just how they plan to govern. From not impeaching Bush and Cheney to not throwing Lieberman out of his chairmanship, it's not all going to be peachy for us.
I hold onto the idea it is going to be better than having Bush in office. I find comfort in that thought.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Hillary may surprise us. She may rise above the disastrous mistakes of her campaign and her Senate voting record and prove to be an asset to the Obama administration and to we citizens who hope for his success.

    One thing is certain:

The mountain in front of Obama and his task in climbing it requires our support even when he is less Left than many of us would choose. This left Liberal will give that to him with gladness and huge relief that the Bush years have ended and once again we can be proud of our government's actions.

I'm with you. Not that I won't ever criticize, but I recognize that Obama is going to take a lot of hits from the right for everything he does and I think we need to have his back if we want his presidency to be successful. That does not mean we should not try to pull him to the left on occasion, but I think we need to recognize that he never promised to govern from the left and he's not going to. We need to avoid using right-wing framing and attacking his character even when we disagree on policy. G-d only knows the right will do enough of that.
  • eagleye · 1 year ago
My problem with Hillary has nothing to do with left or right, conservative or liberal. I'm just not impressed with her, and I'm still waiting for somebody to list whatever it is she can point to as career acheivements.

Still a disaster looming at State. Obama needs to pack the Clintons off to East Nowhere and keep them away from the press. Having either of them in his Administration is not Change.
  • katiekat489 · 1 year ago
This is absolutely not what I voted and worked for. It is beyond anything that I can understand and certainly not the change that I can believe in. What part of her foreign policy and voting record that she lost because of will change? And to think that she still has to have confirmation hearings and that there will be no new info from the repugs. Like they don't have anything when they were prepared for her for the nomination. And qualifications? What would that be other than the name. Pray she doesn't run this office like she did her campaign--or how she treated people in the WH. I really am truly at a loss with this unless this was her request in order to stump for Obama. What is he thinking? And why am i getting a sinking feeling with all this?
  • tommytoonz · 1 year ago
Don't forget, Obama will be HER boss, and she'll take orders from him or she's gone. She doesn't so much run the office as she does run the office according to what Obama wants. In this position you need someone knowledgeable, commanding and that can immediately get respect from World leaders and like her or not she does that. I'm not a fan of her because the media isn't mature enough to handle a Clinton back in the White House but with Obama's message and her (and Bill's) appeal to foreign leaders (particularly the mid-east) I think she'll be very effective.

Just remember, Obama brings the change, the others just have to enact his change.
  • LJEF4all · 1 year ago
Read this would make her third in line of succession after VP and SOH not sure if that is true but sounds much better then the thought of Kindofsleazy Rice having been in the same position all these years. This is a wonderous choice, and change I can believe in.

John Kerry (the former nominee, not a wannabe) would be a much better, more independent choice. Not to mention that Kerry is just billions of times more qualified! International relations and military issues are his long-time passion! (not just a venue to power or a chance to claim executive privilege...)

The undeniable point is that Kerry has DECADES of highly valuable and relevant experience, having served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, chairing the Asia Subcommittee, tons of travel, meeting international leaders, etc. I would have IMMENSE confidence in his judgment, tact, and skill in this role. You could rest assured. Obama could set it and forget it. Kerry is extremely knowledgeable. Plus, his integrity and commitment to the nation would be a much-needed improvement in the Executive Branch. And he's a natural under pressure! (yes, the nation IS under pressure!)

HELLO, OBAMA! DO WHAT'S RIGHT FOR THE NATION & THE WORLD!

It also would do a lot to heal the rifts of denied Democrats who have been waiting long and hard for OUR chosen candidate to hit the bigtime for the past 8 years.

I hate to say this, but Obama is starting to seem like he's being co-opted by the Big Money/Zionist/Bush-loving elements of Fed. govt.!!!

And that's NOT why he got elected!!!
